PUPPY LOVE...

Certainly not the coolest animation movie I've seen, ... but certainly not the worst either. Actually it was reasonable good I suppose. Watched it with our 6 year old son, ... and he did like it. One of the scenes he liked most was those poor birds dropping from the sky, when ... (well I won't spoil it). Me... I liked the Canadian turkey with his caddy. The story on its own was I suppose ok, ... a bit too cute, too sweet perhaps,....puppy love. But,... I don't know, somehow they pull it together after all. I mean,... I enjoyed it, laughed,.. most of all, I loved my sons reaction to it. He was entertained and laughed a lot.I think I appreciate the makers effort in trying to use a different type of animal then usual in the leading role. Wolves! And usually wolves would be in the `bad/evil' role. I remember wondering at the beginning of the movie how they were going to pull this off I mean, weather they would succeed in portraying the wolves as "good". Because next to being in the "good" role, they also had to show the "strong" and "meaner" character of the wolves. I think they succeeded pretty well.

Love wolves? Love Balto? Then you'll love Alpha and Omega

In animated movies, you expect lot of things to make the money for itto be successful, such as looking for the greatest cast member that isright for the role, or the best writers, even the best pitching storyboarders.Well if you're looking for the right of cartoon film to watch, young orold, then Alpha and Omega will be your best fit.Alpha and Omega tells the story of two very different wolves in twodifferent packs on a journey about adventure and love. An omega wolfnamed Humphrey (Voiced by Justin Long whose also play Lem in Planet 51and Alvin from Alvin and the Chipmunks) is the first wolf in history tobe having a crush on an alpha named Kate (voiced by Hayden Panettiere)whose also an old friend of his.But this is a problem for him because omegas are forbidden to be matingwith the alphas. It has been their old rule for many years. But withtime, some rules are meant to be change.Soon after a bad failing caribou hunt, Kate's father Winston (voiced byDanny Glover) agrees with Tony (voiced by the late Dennis Hopper.R.I.P.) that his son Garth (voiced by Chris Carmack) would marry Katein order to keep the peace and reunite the packs.During that night, things take on a different turn for Kate after shemeets Garth and learns one part about him; that his howling sucks! Butdespite that bad fact about Garth, Kate will stick up to the marriageno matter what. It's not very long until she and Humphrey get capture by humans and aresent to Idaho to repopulate. They get some help from a golf-playinggoose named Marcel (voiced by Larry Miller) and his duck friend Paddy(voiced by Eric Price) to get back to Jasper Park Canada on time beforeit is too late or else Tony's pack and Winston's pack will have tofight for the valley.Meanwhile Kate's sister Lilly (voiced by Christina Ricci) keeps Garth'scompany and shows him around while Kate and Humphrey are gone beforethey are to get back. Now Lionsgate is not that used to making many animated movies, butdespite the fact that this is the first time we've had a wolf movie in15 years since Balto, the film carries a lot of funny almost adult-likehumor. The jokes will put a tickle in your tummy and the romance willthrow in a good source of sweetness to your heart. It will have you change your mind the way you see how love sparksthrough another one's eyes.

Great and Awesome movie! I'm a mom -who hates animated movies by the way- and I loved it!

Alpha and Omega is a super good movie. It has romance, comedy, and action. It starts out with Humphrey an Omega, along with his best friends, who's job it is to make everyone happy and have fun. Kate on the other hand was born to be an Alpha a leader of a pack. But as they get older they realize that they are tired of being what they are and they are ready to try something new.

Yawn

Watched this with kids and even they lost interest in this as itprogressed. It just seemed like a weak copy of so many other moviesabout animals trying to find their way home and dealing with perilsalong the way while enlisting the aid of bumbling animals. Not to mention how the story kept trying to be a love story. There wasvery little originality and it struggled to keep the interest of 6 yearolds. The "done to death" story line and forced, tacked on love story made avery dull, mediocre movie. There are so many animated movies fighting for an audience, this onefell far short of competing. It felt like little more than an attemptto wrangle hard earned money from the wallets of parents looking for amovie that would appeal to their children.

Purely for kids

I took my little sister to see this on her Birthday and she walked away talking about how much she loved it. If you talk to her about it now, she hardly remembers any of it. I'd say that pretty much sums up the film. Most young viewers will certainly enjoy themselves as they watch it, but there isn't a single memorable moment in the film. It follows pretty much every cliche or stereotype one would expect, and the animation itself is average at best. The only thing I can really give it props for is the voice acting. Most of the actors did a solid job with their lines, but the visual aspect doesn't even come close to correctly justifying all that work. As an adult, I'm willing to admit that my favorite part out of the whole movie was the ending credits. No joke. The credits showcase some very beautiful and professional looking concept art and other artistic behind the scenes extras of everything from the characters to the settings. It almost made me sad walking out to think that a lot of very beautiful work went into the project, only for it all to end up being a mediocre, average, bland, and forgettable film that will easily be forgotten half a year or so down the road.My advice is to rent it if you have any desire to see it. Unless you have someone six or under who's obsessed with wolves, you'll probably watch it once and then leave it on the shelf to collect dust if you purchase a copy for yourself. Granted, I've seen much worse, but with so many brilliant animated films and companies to compete with, Alpha and Omega easily falls short of what's possible in this day and age, even for smaller companies that don't have as many resources and staff as Pixar or Dreamworks. It's a shame because I really wanted the film to do well...alas, you can't win em' all.

Pascal Zinken (2012-05-23 10:30)

A little too bland

Two packs of wolves, each split up in two - the strong Alpha wolves andthe weaker Omega wolves. In the middle of the two packs a canyon filledwith a herd of caribou, the sole source of food. Amidst the usualbattle between the packs for territory there's an internal battle - oneof young male Omega wolves is in love with a female Alpha of his pack. This love is strictly forbidden by the call for hierarchy, but a changeis coming in on the winds, so who knows.Story wise its a pretty much classic tale of male and female meetingunder a pale full moon and falling into a howling mad love, but that'senough.Animation films like this are meant for kids and the kid I saw this onewith loved it. Personally I found it a little bland - while most of theanimation of the characters of the scene is done pretty well theanimation of the area around them leaves something to be worked on -many scenes are just plainly coloured bits and pieces that offer noanimation at all. 3D effects were great though. Many of the scenes comealive as the depth changes. All in all, I can't give it more than 5 out of 10 and even that isstretching it.5 out of 10 wolves howling at the moon

Are they humans in wolves clothing?

Great animation requires at least good voice choice and creatures that take your imagination to fantasy that leaves you dreaming. This film was poorly voiced in that the actors chosen sounded more like humans acting like humans. The script and storyline sounded and looked like watching humans in wolves clothing. Just one example: a young female wolf is walking away with hips swaying back and forth and a young male wolf is ogling the view as only a human would understand. Storyline was weak with the predictable good wolves - bad wolves competing for territory; a journey by two young wolves from both packs; hinderance by humans and help by other animals until the denouement where, of course, everyone ends up friends after all. Animation/graphics were a decade old and nothing to remember; in part, I think, because they were subcontracted to some obscure studio.

Definitely The Next Balto!

To start things off, I'd have to say that the film was definitely worththe money. I don't know what the critics problem is, but at the startof the movie, what first popped into my mind was "What do these wolvesremind me of? Balto!" (and I mean this in a good way!) So, twodifferent wolf packs each lead by Kate (Hayden Panettiere) and Humphrey(Justin Long) are relocated from their Canadian turf to U.S. territory, but must find their way back home as much as possible.I'll admit that the storyline did need to be tweaked just a little morecreatively than what was currently shown, but the cast and crew did animpressive job on bringing those characters to life. To point out asmall tidbit, the goose Marcel, Kate and Humphrey first encounter inIdaho does tend to make me reminisce of Boris in "Balto" for his humor.Crest Studios may not have that same CGI essence as Pixar's work, butthey certainly have made something of themselves after a decade'sabsence from mainstream (since the success of their first movie "TheSwan Princess" back in the mid-1990s.) I look forward to seeing thisagain on DVD!

ravsten428 (2012-05-21 14:23)

Wonderful, wild, wolf film!

Cute film whether you see it it 3-D or not.Alpha and Omega has a fairly simple storyline. Wolves Humphrey and Kateare from different packs. Humphrey is an Omega and Kate is an Alpha, but that doesn't stop Humphrey from having feelings for her. On thenight of the moonlight howl "The wolf way of courting another mate".Humphrey tries to meet up with Katy and he does but Katy isn't fallingfor it. However they end up being tranquilized by Fish and Gameofficials and end up being relocated in Idaho, or Idawho if yourHumphrey.Along the way they try to get back home and have some goofy birds helpthem get back on their way. They need to do this because a member ofanother pack wants Katy to marry his son Garth, whom Katy has nointerest in but he ends up with someone else you'll just have to waitand see. Garth's father tries to unite the packs together by thismarriage but it isn't going to happen anyway because when Katy andHumphrey get back home they have ended up in love with each other. Thisdoesn't fly well at first but it all gets sorted out in the end.Although Alpha and Omega is a great film the movie lacks goodanimation. I thought the worst thing about the movie was some of thecomments from Katy's mother. They were way too violent to be in a kidsmovie. Also some sexual innuendo is not appropriate either but notnearly as bad in some other animated films. This film got many bad reviews. My guess is because of the pooranimation and some other things I mentioned above. However I love themovie and there are many others who do as well. I would take this overThe Lion King any day.

The Vidiot Reviews...

Alpha and OmegaGift shopping for a she-wolf must be difficult, since they already owna permanent fur coat.Fortunately, the male wolf in this animated movie isn't expected topurchase any luxuries for his she-wolf.A pair of polar opposite wolves from Jasper National Park, Kate (HaydenPanettiere) and Humphrey (Justin Long), are relocated to a park inIdaho where they are expected to repopulate the wolf species.Desperate to return to their home–where both of their wolf packs arewarring over communal hunting grounds–Kate and Humphrey seek the travelguidance of a French-Canadian goose (Larry Miller).Ill-conceived and poorly animated, Alpha and Omega is schlocky at best. The story is familiar, the subject matter is abnormal and the musicalnumbers featuring the wolves singing and dancing on their hindquartersis off-putting.Besides, why would a couple of hungry wolves ever return to Canada whenAmericans are so much plumper? Excellent Movie

This review is from: Alpha & Omega (Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo + Digital Copy) (Blu-ray) My 3 year old son loved this movie. It was the movie of choice for a long time since he thought the wolves were dogs. It is a great movie.

Alpha and Omega is a pleasant enough 3-D computer animated feature

Okay, I wasn't really wanting to see this but my friend did and sincewe already watched my choice-Easy A-I decided to humor him and viewthis one next. It's not too bad, certainly with a voice cast thatincludes Justin Long and Hayden Panettiere in the leads and DannyGlover and the late Dennis Hopper, of which this film is dedicated to,as support. The scenes are wonderful, there are some amusements-bothvisually and aurally especially when we hear what a couple of duckstraveling along are saying-so on that note, this was a pretty pleasantand occasionally exciting picture. No great shakes but if you'reinterested in computer animation, Alpha and Omega is worth a look.

jacquelynmw2002 (2012-05-19 04:44)

Adorable little movie.

The movie had my husband and I giggling and the children enjoyed it alot. When it was over, my six year old son asked if we could buy it. Ididn't know what to expect when we rented it and was pleasantlysurprised at what a great little movie it was. The mother wolf had merolling. I think any mother could relate. I do wish the adventure was alittle longer, but still very pleased with this one. Storyline- InJasper National Park, the wolves, Kate and Humphrey, have known eachother since puppyhood, but they are on the oppose ends of the WesternPack's social structure with Kate as the energetic Alpha daughter ofthe pack leader and Humphrey being the good humoured Omega. That socialstructure forces Kate to accept an arranged marriage with Garth of theEastern Pack to unite the packs for peace, regardless of Humphrey'shopeless attraction for her. Before that union can occur, Kate andHumphrey are captured by the park's rangers and sent to an Idaho parkas part of a wolf repopulation project. Mindful of her duties, Kate isdetermined to return to Jasper and Humphrey offers to help with theassistance of two odd geese. However, as this disparate pair strugglethrough the dangers to get home, a growing mutual appreciation of theirtalents and then a deeper love threatens to disastrously complicateeverything if they make it back.

Misandric Nonsense For The Under Tens

Yep, as other reviewers here have pointed out, silly PC sexism tobrainwash the little-'uns with - The female lead - the 'Alpha' hunter -is brave, clever, 'strong and beautiful', a leader etc. The male lead, like all the other boys, is ugly, cowardly, clumsy & dumb.If you're a parent of a girl, i guess you could convince yourselfthere's some kind of justification to filling up her head up with suchunrealistic drivel, but if you have a son? What is that telling him? What's that giving him to aspire to? The story is recycledPixar/Disney, animation's pretty perfunctory, too. Best i can say isthat the colours are nice. You don't need this in your life.

Its no Nemo

Pixar has changed the way we look at animated films, and truly become the standard against the way we measure these sorts of movies in the 21st Century. The detail that goes into the plot, character development, and animation is nothing but the best. Unfortunately, Alpha and Omega isn't from the studio that gave us Buzz, Nemo, or Dug the Dog. That's not to say it's a bad movie. Just that its an `also ran'.The plot is harmless enough. Kate and Humphrey are members of the same pack, but not of the same social standing. Kate is an Alpha - a hunter and leader, driven and trained to be the very best. Humphrey is a good-natured and loveable goofball who pals around with his buddies, rising to the occasion whenever absolutely necessary. Sadly, Humphrey - an Omega - has feelings for Kate, and that's not just going to fly when it comes right down to pack law. Think Romeo and Juliet for the Wild Kingdom set.But when the pair of wolves gets tranquilized and relocated hundreds of miles from home, the journey back gives them a chance to discover each other. Sadly, the journey just doesn't live up to its potential. You can see each plot development coming from a mile off. We're also subjected to numerous jokes involving bodily functions and butts.Hayden Panettiere and Justin Long do a passable job as the star crossed Kate and Humphrey. Dennis Hopper and Danny Glover also turn in decent efforts as the senior statesmen of the Wolf community. Vicki Lewis from Newsradio, and more recently Sonny With a Chance, is also fun as Kate's tough mom, Eve. Alpha and Omega may be a fun way to pass a rainy afternoon, but its unlikely it'll earn a cherished place in many family's video libraries.

Visually decent but disappointing effort

I love animation, always have, always will, but I was reallydisappointed with Alpha and Omega. It isn't without its redeemingqualities. The colours and sceneries are really beautiful to look at,and the voice acting on the whole is good. Justin Long was ratherbland, but Hayden Penettiere was quite likable and Dennis Hopperimpresses in his last film though as a film overall it is not somethingI don't think people will remember him by.Chris Bacon's music is occasionally nice, but most of the time itdoesn't fit completely with the scene it accompanies, in some of theaction scenes especially it comes across as a little obtrusive. Alsosome the worst animation is in the musical sequences, and the dancescenes feel really out of place. While I loved the colours and the sceneries, the character designsdidn't impress me at all. In fact, I found them rather forced, especially with the goose. The 3D was okay, I have definitely seenworse where it not only distracts but isn't good in the first place.Alpha and Omega's 3D had its moments, but sometimes it wasn't sharpenough and it jarred with the much clearer backgrounds.Besides, I haven't yet come to the worst assets of Alpha and Omega. Thestory is unbelievable mostly, I liked the concept and it started offgreat, but once the clichéd love story idea got introduced the filmwent downhill fast. Also there are several parts that struck me as oddand unbelievable, particularly with the wolf howl idea and the one withthe war between the two wolf clans is half-baked.The film is also devoid of a sympathetic and likable character, exceptfor Kate, who is quite cute. They do some actions that make you go"what?" at the screen, and also there are more clichés than you cancount in the characters alone. Being clichéd can work, but only if it'swell-observed, depicted or written, not the case here. The pace isuneven, dragging in the middle, and while I have nothing against"happy" endings I found the ending here underwhelming. The worst part is the writing. The script is mostly awful, withhalf-baked ideas and any parts that strive to be funny or poignantinstead come across as eye-rollingly cheesy or cloying. The sex jokesalso get too much, and feel really out of place, while the rest of thejokes are predictable and incredibly lame.So all in all, not the worst film of 2010 or the worst animated filmever, but the most disappointing animated film I have seen in a while.2/10 Bethany Cox

an entertaining time passer

im not going to bother going into the ins and outs of the story, there's plenty of info out there for that.despite the negative reviews this one got, i quite enjoyed watching it,for a Sunday afternoon time passer. yeah the animation is a bitlacking, and the story is so cliché its painful, but, there were a fewlaugh out loud moments and in general an all round OK movie don't watch if your into something that pushes the boundaries ofanimation techniques or story telling.do watch if like me, u have a soft spot for the simple stories thathelp pass a relaxing afternoon.absolutely fine for the kiddies really, some really obscure sexualreferences to appeal to the older kiddies but nothing to worry about.definitely a rainy day film

tainted_lynx (2012-05-17 06:39)

I suppose more of these are on the way..

I remember hearing somebody discussing the future of 3-D movies on CBS.He said that the biggest danger to the current 3-D boom will come whenthe market gets flooded with cheaply made, poor-quality 3-D films andthe term "3-D" will quickly become associated with mediocrity, orworse. He couldn't have been more right. There are so many reasons not to see this film but I will keep thisfairly short. First and foremost is the story which is insulting at itsmost basic level. Kids can learn so much from watching movies, which iswhy their information should be somewhat based in fact. The world ofnature seen in this movie makes me believe that the filmmakers hadwolves and bees confused with their thoughts of Alphas and Omegas. After all, the "alphas" are just leaders, not genetically bred superwolves. Each litter of wolves can have alphas and there are no "omegas"- just other wolves. And then there is the war between the two wolf clans which is fine forstory, but if there truly was a war such as that there would be no foodto found and there is obviously tons of caribou all over. The Lion Kingdid an excellent job of showing that the food had gone completelyscarce with bad decision making. Conversely, these must be the DUMBESTwolves imaginable eating bones and fighting each other instead ofhunting the meat widely available all over. My point is - why createentertainment that dumbs down our kids? Subtle changes could haveenlightened our children and been a boost to their brains. The film even had acting problems. For example there was supposed to bea wolf named Garth that upon his horrible howl, birds would fall fromthe sky. This could have worked had the actor been able to emit ahorrible howl. Instead, his howl was just weak and when the birds fell,it was cute but made zero sense. So much of the film was like this -half-thought-out ideas that might have worked with better writers andactors but upon completion didn't work at all. There is a total lack ofemotion as well. But if all of that isn't enough to kill brain cells, the animationsurely can't help. This is crude animation that looks more like astudent film than a theatrically released motion picture with big namevoices. The wolves look more like dogs with tiny tiny teeth withfeathers rather than manes. And the golfing goose(Balto, anyone?),while a cute idea, is one of the most disturbing images I've seen inyears. Finally, if you feel you absolutely must see the movie against thisentire warning - For the love of sanity..stay away from the 3D version. They did not go all out with the 3D AT ALL and it not only lookshorrible but it will hurt your head and cause tremendous strain to youreyes as well. I've had some bad 3D experiences so far, but this by faris the worst. I mean, this isn't even a bad movie, it's ABYSMAL,failure.Don't see this movie, trust me.

inappropriate content

Inappropriate content - violent comments such as "I'll rip your throat out and....down your neck" in addition to strong sexual suggestions - both clearly inappropriate for a PG rating. Story line is thrown together with no creativity - no cute and cuddly wolves shown here, more like a 'how-to' mate/fight with other wolves. Overall crap.
