Definitely not what you would expect

While Cameron Diaz never quite struck me as an Oscar Award Winner, thishas to be the all time low of her performance as an actress. The truthis that her name still manages to sell and the movie made a more thanreasonable amount of money, but for the viewer looking for a full andgreat movie experience, this is something they can skip. The plot is really shallow and the movie is basically made to makemoney and I think it is pretty safe to say that it has nothing to dowith art. Justin Timberlake might have stepped up a notch with "Friendswith Benefits", but this is beneath even him.The characters are really poor in what concerns the artisticimpression, so don't expect this movie to be nominated for an Oscaranytime soon. If you are looking to kill some time in the afternoon, then yes watch this movie, but if you want to see a great movie andtruly enjoy it, it's probably in your best interest to skip this one.Would I watch it again? That is a definite no. I want my money back!

So bad, my daughter and I walked out after 20-25 mins

I can't write a complete review because for the first time in my life Iactually got up and walked out of a movie, along with my adultdaughter, because it was so bad. The movie was NOTHING like I expectedbased on the previews. I was expecting risqué, sexy and funny, andinstead I got lewd, raunchy, and ANYTHING but funny. The couple slightchuckles I got in the first 20-25 minutes before we walked out, hadnothing to do with the lewd, wildly misguided attempts at humor, butrather the subtle things like Cameron Diaz's character avoiding otherteachers in the hall that are looking for a shoulder to cry on.I would liken the ATTEMPTS at humor in this movie to something likeHarold & Kumar Go To White Castle... but unlike the mostly very funnyWhite Castle movie, Bad Teacher misses the laugh mark by a MILE andthen some. It's just simply NOT funny, and it was pretty awkward towatch with my OVER 17 daughter (you DEFINITELY don't want to take yourteenage kids to see this). To sum it up, if you liked that disgustingBattle Sh*ts scene from White Castle, then Bad Teacher is YOUR movie,go see it. If you thought that scene was raunchy, lewd, disgusting, andNOT funny (unlike the rest of the movie), then AVOID Bad Teacher at allcosts. Or just play it safe and avoid it period, you're not going tomiss anything.

Good for some laughs

I read the reviews for this, and was instantly turned off. However, itwas my girlfriend's turn to pick the movie, and she picked Bad Teacher.I wasn't looking forward to the movie after the reviews I read. Thetheater was quite empty, too. First of all, I agree that there will beno prize for a brilliantly written script. The morals were absolutelyhorrible, and no one still in grade school should be allowed to watchthis movie. It is for adults, and adults who understand that this moviedoes not depict actual teachers. In fact, a vast majority of teachersare closer to the goody-goody teacher, Miss Squirrel (who annoyed theh&!! out of me by the end of the movie) The real problem with ourpublic school system is with the lack of support at home regardingdiscipline and backing up the teachers from the parents (but Idigress). There may not have been laugh after laugh in this movie, butthe funny parts were really funny. I laughed out loud quite a lot. Muchmore than I thought I would. The gym teacher was my favoritecharacter/actor, by far. Diaz did very well with what she was given. Ifound myself rooting for this shallow, poor excuse for a human being. Ithink only Diaz could make me do that. yeah, the moral of the story washorrible and it painted teachers in a bad light. But it was funny, andit isn't meant for people who still need morals to be taught to them. So, while I don't suggest it as your first pick, there's no reason todread seeing Bad Teacher. I don't know why it is so funny to heargorgeous blonds and little kids swear, but it is.... and it doesn'thurt to look at Diaz for a couple hours. (thank you, car wash scene!)

hit and miss

the kind of movie on a saturday night when you wanted a few good laughs and not think a whole lot this film works. it has missed chances at being funnier and there is alot of past cliches that i have seen done before in other classroom comedy based films. however what does make the film work is that there have been news storys over the past decade and change of some teachers such as what is being portrayed in this film and some seeking out things to induldge in which doesn't have a thing to do with higher education. its the kind of film you don't spend alot of time thinking about and just roll with it for what it is.

Grew on me!!

Funny movie if you don't take it seriously!!! When I first saw the movie, i didn't care for it at all... Sometimes it takes more then once until you like something! The movie has officially grown on me the more Ive watched it.... Not to mention I work for a school so that makes it even better =) 5 *stars*

Bad Teacher=Bad Movie

This review is from: Bad Teacher [HD] (Amazon Instant Video) Bad Teacher=Bad Movie. Just shows you how trashy the "actors" really are for taking lead roles in this pre-teen/T&A TRASH film - as if we didn't already know that with casting Justin (Super Bowl Sleaze) Timberlake. The writer must of been on some heavy medication to even come up with this wreck of a storyline. Basically raunchy soft porn for the raging hormonal adolescent.

SCHOOL DAZE

BAD TEACHER is not a bad movie; it's just not that good. Cameron Diaz plays a teacher whose dedication to her job is hardly admirable. She merely teaches to raise money for a boob job--she's self-centered, amoral, foul-mouthed--a parent's worst nightmare...but in spite of this she's somehow likeable--almost.The movie does expose the oftentimes hypocritical side of education albeit stretching it to extremes. In spite of some funny moments, the movie ultimately isn't truly funny, winding up a bitter experience.Diaz is effective in her unlikeable role and other cast members give good support. Justin Timberlake offers a humorous turn as a dimwitted love interest; Lucy Punch is on target as the uberteacher and Cameron's rival; Jason Segel and Phyllis Smith round out the cast.BAD TEACHER avoids many of this genre's cliches. There are no redemptive moments or sudden enlightening revelations. The tone is consistent to say the least! All in all, BAD TEACHER is somewhat guilty pleasure but doesn't inspire a lot of educational appreciation.

An "A" for effort.

The tag line on the movie posters stated "She doesn't give an 'F'." Let me be the one to tell you that SHE REALLY DIDN'T! Cameron Diaz make this very dark comedy about a gold-digging teacher looking for her sugar daddy, just to wind up back in the same school that she quit, work. It's a dark, vulgar and hilarious comedy that probably have made some teachers who saw it, relate to it on some level. If you don't take it seriously, it pretty funny and me and my brother laughed all the way thru. It had the same premise as BAD SANTA as far as the main character goes....you know, the illusions of what could have been vs. the reality of what they're living thru now. That's the major factor of what drove this comedy forward. LOVED IT!!!

Bad Teacher (2011)

This is a movie I should probably hate. I say this because Diaz is ourprotagonist and she is a real bitch. Perhaps it's because I'm a teachermyself and can kind of understand her frustration at times. Still, sheuses men for money, doesn't try hard at her job, is a drug user, etc.All attributes that should make me hate her. And yet, I don't. Hercharacter doesn't even learn that many valuable lessons. I suppose itwas due to the well constructed world around her. The other characters(minus Segel and Smith) just seem so fake, or happy in that annoyingkind of way. They are all smiles and sunshine to the point of naivety.Segel works as the sarcastic guy that realizes how fake his job is, butmakes an effort to enjoy it. Most of the humour revolves around Diazdoing things that students shouldn't, but I found it had me giggling alot. I'm also pleased that it didn't become too preachy. Rather thanturning Diaz into a wonderful caring and hardworking teacher, she justkind of learned to be happy with where she was in life.

Love it!

I'm pretty sure this is a love it or hate it movie. I loved it, because I love the grossly inappropriate humor in this movie. If you have that sense of humor, then this movie is for you. You won't like it if you are offended by drug and sex references. But you will if you enjoy sarcasm and can laugh at the drugs and sex.I love Elizabeth Halsey and I loved the woman who played Amy Squirrel. She was amazing.

A good "Rotten Apple"

There will be those who watch Jake Kasdan's "Bad Teacher" andautomatically think back to the cult classic Billy BobThornton-starring, Terry Zwigoff-directed comedy "Bad Santa" (2003) andthink that the two movies are somewhat similar: Both pictures centeraround a drug-abusing, alcohol-swilling "protagonist" who doesn't givean "F" about anything but abusing drugs and swilling alcohol, yetsomehow by the end of the story is forced to change their ways... justa little bit."Bad Teacher" is a rotten apple of a dark comedy about a Bad Teacher,Elizabeth Halsey (Cameron Diaz), whose gold-digging ways are exposed byher fiancé at the beginning of the movie and left with little recourse, she is forced to return to her much-hated job as a middle schoolteacher at John Adams Middle School (JAMS). On her first day back, shemakes the acquaintance of the geeky new substitute teacher ScottDelacorte (Justin Timberlake), who also happens to be heir to a watchfortune; he also happens to like women with big boobs. So takingadvantage of this fact to get him to become her new sugar daddy andconcocting a scheme to get a $5700 bonus for getting the higheststandardized test grades, she'll then use the money she earns from thatto get breast implants. And she must also fend off the romanticadvances of pot-smoking gym teacher Russell Gettis (Jason Segel) and acaring goody-good rival named Amy Squirrel (Lucy Punch). This is not a bad film. Some thought "Bad Santa" would scare peoplebecause little kids would go into it thinking it was a new Christmasmovie about Santa Claus (and we all know how well that turned out). Some of the humor is very dark and very crude (and sometimes forced),but I welcome it as a change to the usual run-of-the-mill "lightcomedy" being pushed upon us week after week. I laughed at many of thejokes here, and maybe some people have difficulty finding this sort ofdark, crude humor funny. Some of the sub-plots involving a bulliedunpopular kid and his crush on a pretty classmate are fairlyunderwhelming. On a more positive note, some of the characters are pretty colorful.Diaz is still looking great (I have to fake it here because I justcan't get into blondes), but she relishes her role as a Bad Teacherwith pill-popping, pot-smoking, alcohol-swilling pizazz. She shows upto work hung-over, and spends her nights hanging out at bars trying tohook up with any rich guy willing to take a chance with a gold-diggingmiddle school teacher. I think it's a welcome change from her usuallight-hearted comedic fare. In a nutshell, she gives the film's bestperformance.Surprisingly, Justin Timberlake, I think, continues to grow as aperformer, especially after his well-received roles in past movies suchas "Alpha Dog" (2006), and "The Social Network" (2010). While his workis not "great" here, it is at least showing that he is indeed capableof giving solid performances if given the right material. Phyllis Smithis also hilarious as their slightly neurotic fellow co-worker LynnDavies. Segel probably gives the film's most grounded and realisticperformance as the gym teacher who is only concerned with simply havingfun, even though by his own admission he doesn't have a whole lot tohave fun with."Bad Teacher" is a rotten apple that gets a "B+" for effort.8/10

The word "bad" may be in the title, but Bad Teacher is anything but!

It may have the word "bad" in its title, but this film is anything but.Within the first few minutes, I was laughing and I practically didn'tstop the whole time. As is with some of the great R-rated comedies ofthe last few years (i.e. The Hangover and Knocked Up), this moviefeatures some of the funniest writing.. making for a very raunchy buthilarious good time! I'm a pretty big fan of Cameron Diaz, anyway, soit's always fun to see her do something she hasn't really donebefore... and playing the foul-mouthed, junior high teacher ElizabethHalsey was just a great casting job! While the storyline is a prettyshallow one and you won't find any moral lesson here, it is still justabout everything you could wish for in a comedy. It centers around Ms.Halsey whose engagement was just broken off on the terms that she is a"gold digger." As she begins to work her charm on the new substituteteacher, though, she finds herself going head-to-head with one of theschool's most well-loved teachers, Amy Squirrel. The main cast is rounded out by the hilarious Lucy Punch, JustinTimberlake and Jason Segal, as well as a great supporting cast thatincludes Phyllis Smith, John Michael Higgins, Eric Stonestreet andMolly Shannon. You could not ask for a funnier ensemble! It may nothave any values, but if you're looking to have some laughs and a greattime at the movies.. you'll definitely want to check this movie out!

Not your conventional comedy

Can't say that it stands out a lot from the rest of Hollywood comediesbut it's somewhat unconventional.Usual flow for such movies - there is a protagonist which does bad butis good inside by the end of the day. 2/3 of the movie we have funwatching him/her doing outrageous things. 1/3 is usually redemptionpart when he goes on the right path and becomes a good person, findhappiness blah blah blah.Well usually that last 30 minutes sucks as it's boring and supposed tocarry a message with it.This is what people are used to and this is what they are expecting. You know who to root for and know what is the right thing to do.Boring.Here you just have fun if you let yourself relax. There are peopleasking "Are we supposed to like or not Justin Timberlake character?".Seriously? Just decide for yourself. Same goes for other characters. Innormal comedy gym teacher would be very nice shy guy. Not here - he iswhat he is - you might like him you might not.I guess this is what a lot of people have problem with - charactersdon't fit in known patterns/stereotypes and it makes them uncomfortable:)I like how this movie doesn't have moral in it. Of course it has it'sflaws but it's fun to watch and definitely deserves a higher rank!

Great Concept, poor execution... Cameron Diaz saves the day!

BAD TEACHER – CATCH IT ( C+ ) Bad Teacher is not as funny as it is inthe promos. The best thing about the movie is that Cameron Diaz is asgood or should I say Better than she seems in promos. Bad Teacher'spremises Is really interesting and R-rated humor makes it blunter. Theonly thing it's lacking is characterization, if Cameron Diaz characterhad more characterization then movie would have been brilliant. CameronDiaz is truly amazing as Bad Teacher, this role is truly for her andshe proved yet again that she is one of the best female lead comediansaround. Justin Timberlake provided the perfect freshness and weirdness.FYI watching real life Xz Justin Timberlake Dry Humping Cameron Diazwas really Awkward. I don't remember watching dry humping in movieslike Ever and then between JT and Cam, never imagined that! Jason Segeldidn't get much scope but Lucy Punch was hilarious. This girl haspotential if right character is provided. Overall, Bad Teacher is agood concept but poorly executed. Cameron Diaz saves the movie for me.Flawed but Worthy.

Camron Diaz is still Hot

ONE LINE REVIEW: Camraon Diaz is still hot.RATING: Wait for the Instant Download, if you like Camron Diaz.Otherwise, Don't waste your time. (Ratings: "See it in theaters," "Wait for the Instant Download," "Don'twaste your time")DANGER : SPOILERS (but no surprises)"Bad Teacher" features Camron Diaz as Elizabeth Halsey, a teacher ofsome ill repute who just lost her sugar daddy fiancé and is trollingfor her next victim. She finds him in Scott Delacorte (JustinTimberlake) who is a substitute teacher with well-to-do familyconnections. But getting in her way is goody-two-shoes teacher AmySquirrel (Lucy Punch) who has attracted his attentions. Elizabethdecides that to win the man over she needs breast augmentation surgery(costing $10,000) and will do whatever it takes to get the money.Meanwhile PE teacher Russell Getis (Jason Segel) has the hots forElizabeth. And our little love triangles are complete. The basic premise of this movie is that Elizabeth Halsey is cool, andeveryone else is a dork. Elizabeth smokes pot, and drinks, and luresmen to their fate with her sex appeal. No, that's not true. That's the secondary premise of this movie. Thebasic premise of this movie is that Camron Diaz is still hot. And toprove it she was shot from every possible angle that you can shoot anactor. Long shots, two shots, sexual dry humping shots, and extremeclose ups. She looked great in every scene. There is also a veryseductive car wash scene.I think it takes a lot of balls to title a move with the word "Bad" init. The reviews almost write themselves "Bad Teacher is bad news. BadlyDirected, Badly acted... blah blah blah" The fact is that "Bad Teacher"is okay entertainment. This film is pretty juvenile in places andincludes plenty of gross-out and fart humor. The best lines are alreadyin the trailers.Elizabeth does a lot of bad things including seducing the head of theIllinois state testing organization to steal the answers to theirstandardized test. This enables her to "teach to the test" and win acash award that allows her to get her boob-job. But don't worry, shenever does.If this plot device of teaching the students to cheat sounds familiar, you are probably a South Park fan. See season 12, episode 5, "Eek, APenis!"The problem with this movie is that Elizabeth has no redeemingcharacteristics. She is so bad that we wonder why we care about her.But the film pulls it off because Camron Diaz is still hot. Also, everyother character in the film is a dork, making her look exceedinglycool. Amy Squirrel (a sort of female Frank Burns) attempts to getElizabeth fired and in so doing gets arrested herself. But she failsmiserably in no small measure because Camron Diaz is still hot.Justin Timberlake does a good job of playing off-type as the dorkyinnocent substitute teacher. I liked Timberlake in "The Social Network"and here. He's not afraid of making fun of himself both in this filmand in his occasional SNL appearances. In the end, this is a Hollywood feature and so the dorky PE teachergets the hot bad girl in the end (no pun intended). And the transitionof Elizabeth from superficial gold-digger to warm, caring gold-diggerhappens overnight and with relatively little on-screen impetus. Butit's OK because Camron Diaz is still hot.

Pretty funny film

Cameron Diaz hauls out her comedic chops in this pretty funny film. While she may be no Kristen Wiig or Tina Fey, she's a pretty good substitute for physical comedy. And come on, she's hot! Although not really a romantic comedy, it leans in that direction. Unfortunately Jason Segel just kind of stands around in the background. Justin Timberlake plays against type as an agreeable dweeb whose romance with Elizabeth (Diaz) is limited to dry humping in a hotel room. Lucy Punch as fellow teacher Amy Squirrel (yep) and Phyllis Smith (The Office) come off much better. This isn't a great movie but I have to admit I did get my $6 worth of laughs so a mild recommendation.

Funny, but just didn't do it for me

This review is from: Bad Teacher (Unrated Edition) (DVD) This definitely has it's funny parts. It's not agonizing in any way to watch. But if you are expecting for it to end up being one of your all time favorite comedies, I hope you have pretty low standards. Cameron Diaz is pretty good in it and it makes you crack up because of how horrible she really is as a teacher. She does some incredibly messed up (in a funny way) things in this, but overall, it's not going to have you curled over laughing. But if you are looking to get it when it's on sale for 5 or 6 bucks, you will easily get your money's worth and also, dont' forget to enjoy the car wash scene ;)

xminusone (2012-05-16 15:44)

It truly is a statement of our times~

Film was directed and produced adequately enough. Script isn'tabsolutely horrible, I know I wouldn't want to have to try to get humorout of the embarrassing abomination our education system has becomebut, just the same, it's surprising to me to read so many negativereviews of this movie by such (sincerely) smart, observant, and astuteviewers, film fans, and film-goers.The obvious point is to enjoy watching Ms. Diaz; I freely admit I wouldbe riveted watching a black-and-white film of her reading the phonebook. She just has that appeal to some of us. One cannot deny hersexual magnetism and charisma in the most generic of gestures andexclamations. She's just a joy to watch. Additionally, I'm sure all ofus have a person like her character within our social circle, it's justthat they don't usually say the things she says or do the things shesays quite so obviously (or perhaps simply within our purview). So, either you get it or you don't: she's pretty, she's sexy, so puther up on the screen to . . . well, do something, anything--who cares?Maybe her private life does tend to pull the wrong way on most people'smoral compasses; what the heck do I care? It's not like she's gonnacall me or anything.

Bad Teacher, Bad Idea

Cameron Diaz basically plays the same character in every role she takeson. For me, the only time that role paid dividends was in 'VanillaSky', when she played the psycho sex partner to Tom Cruise. With 'BadTeacher',it's now clear that that role is playing a little thin. Maybeshe's just not being offered any good roles, but taking on this onesurely won't increase such offers. The movie only avoided a one star rating because of a few one-linersand a couple of sight gags. Plot, well, there really isn't anything tomake the viewer stay to the end of the film. What you have here isbasically a series of sight gags, 90% sexual in character, which areloosely strung together. There is no character development and youreally don't care what happens to anyone in the end.The supporting cast doesn't live up to that billing. They seem to bedoing their own unrelated stand-up comic routines. Justin Timberlakeshould fire whoever told him to take a role in this movie. As a careermove, it was a disaster. In short, find something better to do with your time. Bad Teacher is nolaughing matter.
