We have taken some photos of "Bones - Season Six".
They represent actual movie quality.
Just finished going through the series. The "Bones" series rates 5 stars, great entertainment. The idiots that packaged the series are greedy (choosing the cheapest way to market the series), they get 1 star (thus we have the average of 3 stars). Double sided CDs=very difficult to quickly find the disk with the episode you want to watch and (heaven forbid) the disks get taken out of the case and left out...what a waste of time to put them back in order. It is my hope that the second season is packaged better, otherwise I am very doubtful whether I would buy into any further seasons unless the price reflected the packaging.
I love Bones. Before I bought this season I had only seen it sporadically on television, but now that I have seen this season I am going to have to buy the rest! This season is absolutely great. You see how Booth and Brennan get paired up together and how their partnership grows, all with really interesting cases backing it up. If you like Bones at all, you'll love this season.
I love this show, and this box set is brilliant. There weren't many special features, but the one's it did have were great. Definately a must for any fan of crime shows.
This review is from: Bones: The Complete First Season (DVD) I've been an avid fan of David Boreanaz ever since he stepped scene on Buffy: The Vampire Slayer. I was roughly 16 and was happy to see his career blossom onto Angel for 5 seasons. When Angel was unfortunately axed, rumor began shortly after that he was going to be on a show on Fox about forensics. CSI was pretty popular at the time and I thought "Not another knockoff". I tried watching it for pure support of him but found I could not get into the show. A couple years later, I watched the first few disc of Season 1 and found myself completely engrossed in the characters. I love the way the show has grown in the 3 years it's been on (going into 4 this fall) as well as the way the stories have gotten more complex yet humorous. When you follow an actor or character, you always hope to see something familiar yet something new. I think this show's kept it fresh and if you enjoy more storyline than "who did it?"; this will be a show for you!
My kids & I enjoyed the whole season, can't wait till the 2nd season comes out.
Arrived in excellent condition and in a timely manner. Thank you very much.
I am fascinated by the split decision on this show portrayed in thesereviews. Some loath it as unoriginal, others praise it for itscharacters. This indeed may demonstrate both the strengths andweaknesses of "Bones". It is a gross forensic show in the vein (if youwill pardon the expression) of CSI. It is an hilarious character studywith overtones of..... of..... Since I seldom watch comedies I reallyam not sure of what. Since I do not like CSI and do not watch comediesone would think I would hate "Bones"; however I rather enjoy it.Boreanaz has always been better at light comedy than at heavy drama andhere he is put to good use. Deschanel, whom I have never noticedbefore, has the necessary slightly out of focus half-a-bubble-offportrayal necessary to the character as written for this series, downpat. The interplay between the two is very good. I gather from my wife, who has read the books, that the series has little to do with the them. She also likes the TV show, but then she likes CSI. So, if we havewitty comic writing in the context of a gross forensic programme, do wehave some sort of "black comedy"? Not exactly, for this series lacksthe underlying despair of good black comedy like "Dr Strangelove". Thewriters keep "Bones" oddly upbeat, romantic and riddled withinteresting secondary characters. And the mysteries are not too shabby. This is a very unusual amalgam of elements. And how can one not like ashow with a line such as "If you were a dead body, you would want Tuttilooking for you."
I wouldn't call this show must see since I've skipped a few episodes and have no urgency to see them. Yet when I do watch the show it is usually enjoyable, if not the best. I would say the show is comfortable. It doesn't have the highs of the X-Files nor the chemistry of those leads, but again it is just good enough to make it a pleasurable to watch. I didn't grab on to the show right away since it seemed like another CSI clone. It did find its way though and the banter and relationships between all the regulars is much improved. The plots are okay and I would say the characters make the show. It is much better than what is out there.
The highly entertaining and energetic Angel star couldn't have picked aworse forensics show to make his return to television. Although aunique idea for television (an idea already covered in books by IrisJohansen), most of the characters are cardboard cutouts of many othertrite characters throughout television and movies - Angela is in thefront of my mind as I say that with her emotionless facial expressionsno matter what the scene is. While Hodgins has some moments that areworth watching, the rest of the characters are left dull, with mostlines delivered monotone. Boreanaz' character is by far the only goodthing to emerge from this show - he definitely offsets Deschenal'sboring performance. Even after writing off this show as a no-go, I sawthe commercials for the voodoo episode and thought I'd give the showanother chance as I was intrigued. I was mistaken, however, as I wasleft as equally disappointed after the other times I've sufferedthrough the show. One last thing that I wonder - am I the only person in the world whohas ever noticed Deschenal's wardrobe? For someone who is allegedly soignorant about popular and mainstream life (signified by her trademarkstatement, something to the effect of, "I don't know what that means"),Brennan sure does dress in style. Must be all those fashion mags shewas reading while digging up bones in third world countries. Boreanazis the only reason this show gets 3 stars. I have a feeling onceAmerican Idol is off the air, the number of Bones viewers willdramatically decrease  and rightfully so. Here's hoping that Boreanazwill quickly move on to a better project.
Happily, I see the show at this point is in its sixth season, so that nothing I might say will have any impact on its success. In brief, I did find the technical stuff interesting but the remainder of each show is a rather tedious, abbreviated rehash, of every man-professional woman relationship since Tracy and Hepburn made a series of classics (and, no doubt, before that). I have no quarrel with rehash when well done but here I find it so compressed and stereotyped as to make it nothing more than an adjunct to the modern machine stuff and predictable to boot.Overall, this first year would have discouraged me with it after several weeks were I watching it in real-time. Never having seen it on TV, perhaps I am mistreating an experience intended to be seen in 45 minute segments only once a week.Oh, yes, the discs themselves, while looking and sounding OK (so far as I can tell since I used the subtitles), forced me to get out the most powerful magnifying glasses I have just to read which side I was on and what it contained.
In the first episode, when "Bones" is piecing together some bones, anice song is being played. Male artist/group. Not sure of name of songor artist. Can anyone help me? Just so there is no confusion, I shouldmention that there were several songs apparently played on thisepisode, such as "I Turn My Camera On" by Spoon; and "Every Ship MustSail Away" by Blue Merle. I think the song I am looking for is playedbefore these - toward the beginning of the episode. It would be nice ifplaces like IMDb, the BONES official website, and others, would giveinformation on music contained in each episode along with the otherstats like actor names, etc. It would sure be helpful for those of uswho like trivia about movies/TV series.
I love this series. It's like CSI, except it's character driven, not just clever ways to solve crimes. The relationship between Boreanaz and Deschanel is what makes this show worth watching.
This review is from: Bones: The Complete First Season (DVD) I enjoy the product immensely. It came to me in an expeditious mannner. The only downside would be that it is double sided. I prefer onesided dvd's.
This review is from: Bones: The Complete First Season (DVD) The chemistry between the two leads makes this show what it is. I was a huge David Boreanaz fan from Buffy and Angel, but I think he might be even better in Bones.
Bones is a show that succeeds, and succeeds incredibly, because of its characters. The range and depth of this show's characters is not only well developed, it is continuous and makes us keep watching. We see the characters learn, evolve and change. Season 1 establishes the working relationship between Seeley Booth and Temperance "Bones" Brennan. He is an FBI agent and she is a forensic anthropologist working for the Jeffersonian. Their partnership is not only unique, it is ... show would Booth put it?... Symbiotic. These two complement each other perfectly, each learning from the other and learning through their interactions. Booth is the jock, charming, intuitive guy and Bones is the rational, assertive, and yet, socially awkward brilliant scientist. The rest of the team is composed of Jack Hodgins (the bug guy), Zack Eddy (Bones' assistant) and Angela Montenegro (Brennan's best friend). Their working and social interactions are back makes this show great.
I am sorry to say that this particular show may have been sweet talkedpast the head honchos at FOX, but it won't fool viewers. A summary ofthe show (which I won't give here) might offer comparisons to showslike CSI or Cold Case. Unfortunately, this show pales in comparisonwith a very weak and predictable script that does not show any faith inthe intelligence of its viewers (i.e. EVERYTHING is explained - everyprocedure, all of the theories, down to every joke, every detailed stepof the way.) The script is so bogged down in explanation, the viewerhas no chance of being engaged in the show itself, or even laugh atlines that have potential for being entertaining and humorous, becausethe show just tries too hard to be funny. (I see similarities in thecharacter played by David Boreanaz to the character of House.) Overall, this show definitely has some potential, and it's an interestingconcept, but the acting by most of the major characters is quite weak, and the script needs some serious re-vamping. (It needs a little visitfrom ABC's "Extreme Makeover" and I don't mean that it in a kind way)Penny Marshall from TV's "Laverne and Shirley" makes a slightlyhumorous cameo where the "time and space paradox" is mentioned, andaffects viewers too young (and without a cable connection that offersreruns of classic shows). The only lead actor on this program that shows any potential is AngelaMontenegro in the role of Michaela Conlin, to who I would advise to getout of this show as quickly as possible and get somewhere where peoplewill see your talent. (Or an alternative might be to ask for a raise, because without you to carry the show, it will disintegrate evenfaster.) In short, it's pretty obvious that this show was added to theschedule in an attempt for FOX to latch on to the CSI craze, but thisseries lacks all of the intelligence, acting talent, humor, and specialeffects. I recommend if you are looking for a show like CSI, trysticking with CSI.
This review is from: Bones: The Complete First Season (DVD) I bought the first year to again see the severe makeup they put on the title character in the beginning episodes. I'm glad they got rid of the black eye makeup and let her natural beauty show through. Whoever thought that original makeup appropriate must have thought they were making the Adams Family. It is a quite addictive show although I am sorry they got rid of Zach. I thought he was an interesting character. They are still searching for an adequate replacement and keep changing the intern, I suppose looking for a keeper.
I waited for weeks to watch the series premiere and what adisappointment! Anyone who is thinking of watching the show - DON'Twaste your time. The books are superb, so I thought the show would be as well, but thewhole thing was screwed up! They couldn't find a good actress to play Tempe, so they settled for ahack. They didn't want the french connection, so they moved her toWashington, DC - Montreal is far superior for the story lines.Booth, as much as I like David, is a flat, one-dimensional character. The storyline - an idiot could tell you who was guilty after the firstfive minutes. The morgue motley crew was attempting to be the "Crossing Jordon" team, but ended up scoring in the negative in character and wit.Frankly, I've taught second graders who could think up better storiesand characters.I want that hour of my life back! I should have been watching"Supernatural on the WB."
The back of the box of this product calls this series a "sexed up CSI." While I would not use that exact terminology, I would say it definitely has something more than your average forensic criminology show. The characters, while taking a few episodes to find themselves, are infinitely more three dimensional and lovable. This show offers humor and intellect as well as refreshing plot lines that further enhance character relationships and leave you guessing until the last moment. The chemistry between Boreanaz and Deschanel is amazing, and the lab trio offers comic relief as well as intelligence. While I was skeptical of Boreanaz playing a character with a similar mission statement as his previous television hero, Angel (repent for all the killing he has done by saving lives of as many people), Booth is a far cry from the dark and moody vampire. He also makes for the perfect counterpart to his partner, Dr. Brennan (Deschanel), whose intelligence and dedication to her work tends to make her come off as aloof and cold. Booth and Dr. Brennan's earthy artist friend, Angela, help Dr. Brennan (affectionately nicknamed "Bones" by Booth) connect to people throughout the series, although both are somewhat stymied at her utter lack of pop culture knowledge. Overall, Season One of Bones is a witty, fun, intellectual alternative to reality television, and is an excellent springboard for future seasons of this show.
I can either take this show or leave it (mostly leave it). This isn'treally a review so much as an opinion. The corpses tend to lookstartlingly real; so real that I've found myself either screwing up myface in disgust or yelling "eeeewww!!" at the telly. 10 stars for that. But beyond that I can't honestly say a whole of lot encouraging things. The lab techs all remind me of a bunch of horny high school-aged kidsin adult bodies, constantly expressing their need for or complaintsabout the lack of sex to their fellow co-workers. To make it evenbetter *sarcasm* they go and do it in the store rooms during lunchbreaks, perfectly oblivious to the fact that they could becontaminating an entire box of test tubes or petri dishes. In anepisode that I saw recently, Dr. Saroyan had video of Angela andHodgins going to town in the store room - and she said nothing toanyone except the guilty party AND rewarded Angela for it by giving herthe only copy of it. In the real world, folks that behave that way getsacked or it is quietly swept under the carpet only to be laterrevealed by a whistle-blower, public scandals ensue, court room dramaexplodes and the business is enevitably shut down. Seriously, if thewriters, producers and such want to make this a better show, get rid ofthe childish sex antics of the characters. Too much of this leads todisappointment in viewers. We can get enough of that on another channelat any time. 1 star for that. One would think that an anthropologist that is so inept at the modes ofmodern society would not have much of an idea of how to dress trendy, but ol' Tempy seems to have no problems here. Or perhaps someone sneaksinto her house every night and puts wardrobes together for her. It'snot very convincing that someone so beautifully dressed, impeccablymake-upped and perfectly coiffed would have no idea what it means toattract a mate by way of looks, so what's the point of her looking thatway? Honestly? 1 star there.Overall, this show just isn't very believable to me. "Dragnet" with itswooden dialogue was more believable than this.
