Amazing

This film is amazing. It is about a man who wants to be a soldier. Heloves his country USA and will do just about anything to get in theservice including changing his name and State.I saw this film today Sept 11 2011. The is a great movie. It ispatriotic and the men that play American soldiers are brave and willingto take chances for their county. It is a very uplifting movie even though it is a fantasy. The thingsthat make this movie great were patriotism, heroism, love of family, standing for what right even though you may not have the physicalstrength to do it and people having faith in someone who wants to dothe job and do it right. There was a lot of action, a lot of violence, no swearing or sex. Itshows you that good acting and high values make a great movie. In some way the heroes of 9-11 and the victims are a part of our lovefor the things in this movie, love of country, family and most of allsomething we don't always understand, but worth living and dying for.In my personal belief it is God that allows things to happen forwhatever reason and brings about love for others during a time of greatsadness.

A great, old-fashioned adventure that towers above its flaws.

As there's something about the the 1930s-1940s that appeals to me, Itend to prefer movies set in the era and made in its cinematic style. And being fond of the adventure genre, I anticipate movies like theIndiana Jones trilogy, "The Rocketeer", "Sky Captain And the World ofTomorrow", "The Mummy" (1999) and, of course, "Captain America".When I first heard about this movie, my expectations soared. Thedirector was Joe Johnston, who made my favorite superhero movie, "TheRocketeer". It was set during WWII, made in a 1940s style, and scoredby Alan Silvestri. Alas, my heart sank after I found out that they weregoing to do the whole frozen alive storyline I've always hated. But, Ireasoned, the only reason they are making it is because of "TheAvengers". Without that storyline, they wouldn't even be making it.Beggars can't be choosers.Well, after two years of waiting, I got to see the movie. And to mysurprise, it surpassed my high expectations. I didn't even hate theending, although I would have much preferred a happier one more in linewith the original 1940s comics (in which Cap stays in his own era, thenfights commies in the 1950s). So, here are my thoughts on the movie.Acting.Chris Evans was great as Captain America. He nailed the character. After watching him as Captain America, I can't see anyone else in therole. The special effects performed on him to make him look skinny forthe first part of the movie were absolutely seamless. If I hadn't knownabout them, I wouldn't have been able to tell they were there. Butthose effects would not have looked nearly so great if it had not beenfor Evans convincingly "acting skinny". No matter what condition SteveRogers is in, shrimp or super soldier, Chris Evans portrayed himflawlessly. It was refreshing to see a non-angsty, pure-hearted hero for the firsttime in a while. Instead of portraying Cap with irony or satire, theytook him seriously, and it really payed off. Cap, despite (or becauseof) his delightful simplicity and earnestness, comes across asincredibly deep and human, proving once again that the notion of theold-fashioned hero being inferior to his modern antihero counterpart ismerely a haughty assumption.Hugo Weaving's Red Skull was effectively menacing, darkly humorous, andoverall deliciously like an old-fashioned serial villain. Haley Atwellwas charming, feisty and classically beautiful as Peggy Carter. StanleyTucci's Dr. Erskine was played to perfection, Tommy Lee Jones was ascene-stealer of the highest order, Toby Jones was very memorable as asympathetic, almost lovable Arnim Zola, Richard Armitage waseffectively despicable, Dominic Cooper was good as Howard Stark, andNeal McDonough made his presence known despite very little screen time.Sebastion Stan was also quite good as Bucky, although he wasn't quiteas memorable as many of the others.Visuals and Action. My feelings on the visuals are mixed. I was hoping for a bit more of aphoto-realistic feel, but it instead looks a bit too much like "SkyCaptain and the World of Tomorrow" (a movie whose visuals I like verymuch, but would prefer to be a novelty, not the norm). That said, theuse of wide lenses did help make it look more real than many othermovies with such massive amounts of CGI. The color in many scenes isquite good, or at least by today's standards. I did dislike the mutedcolor used in some of the winter scenes, though. I wish they had gonefor more of a Technicolor look, but I'm pretty satisfied with the lookof the movie, except for the winter scenes.I didn't like the action montage too much, as it had some slow-motioneffects, as well as giving off a feeling that you're being cheated outof some scenes. I also thought that the motorcycle-chase felt somewhatrushed. Other than that, however, I did like most of the action scenes. The Kruger chase, Cap's first mission, and the final fight with RedSkull were standouts.I would have preferred that the HYDRA soldiers' uniforms look a bitmore Nazi-like, but the look they have works well. Red Skull doesn'tcare about them as individuals. He is the Hydra, and they are merelyhis many identical heads. Thus, their faceless, almost robotic lookworks very well. Music.Silvestri's score is the best superhero score in years. His main themeunfortunately doesn't have the "flow" that some of his better works do,and seems a little clunky at first. But after you hear it a few times,it grows on you. It's now stuck in my head. Overall, Silvestri's scorehits all the right notes, and captures menace, adventure, and everyother mood required of it, while having actual themes. Media Ventures, eat your collective heart out.Writing.The humor was great throughout. The levels of "heart" were set tomaximum. The romance, although sparse, was memorable. Everything wasportrayed swiftly, without padding, The plot was very well thought out.Memorable lines and scenes abound. Overall, the writing was excellent. Some things that I particularly liked were Steve's journey from shrimpto super-soldier, the USO scene, Cap's first mission, the role-reversalwith Bucky, and the romance. I also liked how Red Skull was his ownboss. It gave him more menace. Plus, using HYDRA ironically makes itfeel more historically accurate. Having Captain America defeat theNazis would mess with history too much, and having him lose to themjust wouldn't do. All I really disliked were Bucky's death and CaptainAmerica getting frozen alive. That could work well in some movies, buta 1940s-style adventure of this sort just cries out for a happy ending.Plus, the modern-day bookends detract from the overall atmosphere.Still, the final scenes were poignant, although out-of-place.9/10.

A wonderfully powerful movie ofhonor, courage , love and friendship but more importantly how Americastands for fighting for justice and what is RIGHT. The dialogue in thisfilm was never corny or over the top. Every actor was believable andbrilliant! Marvel is ahead of the game with is comic to moviesadaptions while D.C is lagging behind the times with the exception ofBATMAN The Dark Knight because god know that Green Latern sucked achuck of crap~ Captain America is a golden movie the world needs thestory and these concept our great American mythology.

This is what the Cap Should be!

OK I've read a lot of reviews which complain about the lack of powerfulopponents for Captain America in this movie. Well that's just thepoint, Captain America was the great super soldier of the 40's from atime when Mutants were unheard of, and the ones that were around weretrying to keep their heads low. So of course Captain America can laywaste to the Nazis, and if the Red Skull didn't run away at their firstmeeting (not many as stated in another review) Than the movie wouldhave ended very quickly.Another thing that I think many people and even more from the youngergenerations seem to miss. Captain America was never about the power hepossessed. So those wanting to see lasers shooting out of robotic handsor eyes, or any other part of the human body, of course are going to bedisappointed. Captain America was always more of a symbol of good vsevil and how the underdog can become a hero. As is I think the energyweapons that were in the film were a bit of overkill.Captain America's origins were for a different age, and I for one amglad they kept it as authentic as they did. Those that are just lookingfor flashy light effects, over inflated super-egos and a host ofarrogant one-liners should check out the sequel which in keeping withthe finest tradition of modern movies promises all of the above.

Surprisingly dull

Based on the comic book. In the 1940s Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) isdeemed unfit for military service being too small and frail. He takespart in an experiment that makes him tall, ridiculously muscular andpossessing almost superhuman strength. He joins the army and helps thembattle the evil Nazi the Red Skull (Hugo Weaving).I heard a lot of good things about this movie and was surprised to seehow dull it was. It takes far too long setting up the back story andCap doesn't show up until 30 minutes in. I don't mind slow movies butthis was deadly dull. The movie drones on and on and moves in fits andstarts. I never got involved in the characters or the story. Alsothere's tons of casual violence but no blood (to get the all importantPG-13 rating). The special effects are good but don't help that much.Evans is OK as Captain America but he comes off as sort of dull. Henever shows any range of emotion. Hayley Atwell walks through her roleas Peggy Carter. She's not a bad actress but she's given nothing towork with. Tommy Lee Jones gives yet another bad performance as an Armycolonel. He can do this part in his sleep--and he does! Weaving sneershis way through his role and plays the Red Skull as a one-dimensionalevil man. Only Dominic Cooper(as Howard Stark) and Sebastian Stan (asBucky) give good performances. This isn't the worst comic book movieever (that award goes to "Green Lantern") but it's slow and dull. Igive this a 4.

The Best Marvel Movie Since IRON MAN

Here it is: the final ingredient for Marvel Studios' ambitious Avengerscrossover film in the summer of 2012. Honestly, I wasn't all thatexcited in the months leading up to Captain America's big budgetinduction into Marvel's film canon for a few reasons. When I'doriginally read that director Joe Johnston would be stepping in to helmthe film, my mind kept going back to JURASSIC PARK 3 and how it hadtainted a fun franchise. Combine that with the fact that I've neverbeen a die-hard Captain America fan and the knowledge that thefilmmaker's were going to have a lot of story on their hands if theywanted to bring the Captain America story to the point where he's readyfor an Avengers crossover (covering his origins, his time in WWII, hisarrival in contemporary times, etc.) in one film; I had severe doubtsgoing in. For the non-Marvel fans, Captain America tells the story ofSteve Rogers, a young man desperate to enlist in the military and fightfor his country in World War II. Unfortunately he's got a list ofphysical problems that more than ensure he'll never see combat; thatis, until he's approached by Dr. Abraham Erskine who wishes to test anew serum on Rogers. The procedure turns Rogers from a scrawny weaklinginto a super soldier and he becomes America's hero. As Captain America,it becomes apparent that he might be the country's only real hopeagainst the forces of HYDRA and it's leader, the Red Skull.I admit I was wrong about this movie. It's the best Marvel film sincethe first IRON MAN in 2008. This is because it doesn't necessarily feelas if I'm watching a "superhero" movie. When I saw THOR earlier thisyear (and especially GREEN LANTERN), I started wondering if all thesesuperhero comic-inspired movies were beginning to fall into a patternwhere each of them would start feeling like the same tale over and overwith different characters. As if Hollywood execs would just create asuperhero Mad Libs and fill out the lines with a different charactereach time and follow the same mold. CAPTAIN America didn't have thatfeeling. This movie felt more like an action/adventure film in the samevein as the Indiana Jones series that just happened to feature asuper-powered protagonist. His powers aren't flashy and over-the-top.He can't fly or transform or fire energy blasts. He's just superstrong, fast, and handy with a shield. As a result, the movie feelsmore grounded in reality (despite HYDRA's future tech and HowardStark's gizmos). The Red Skull's abuse of the cosmic cube and the powerit gives him to create his weapon of mass destruction feels nodifferent from the Nazi's obsession with utilizing the Ark of theCovenant. I wasn't aware how badly I was missing a good adventure filmuntil CAPTAIN America came around. I hope they continue the sameadventure vibe with future movies in the series despite Cap's arrivalin contemporary times. There were a few major mistakes this movie could've made that would'veturned the whole thing into a joke, but they avoid all of them. Thefilmmakers had a real challenge with this one, keeping the WWII originsintact and creating a style for the Captain that stays true to hisdesign without coming off as too hokey. I love that the designersshowed some love for the original costume in the propaganda sequences, and the actual costume was a great combination of the original CaptainAmerica with a more realistic style. Chris Evans was a perfect choicefor the title role. We may as well forget that he ever played the HumanTorch in the FANTASTIC 4 movies, because this is Evan's ideal comichero role. He gives Rogers/Cap a real charisma and fighting spirit; heis the ultimate "good guy". And his villain is just as perfect. HugoWeaving is a perfect villain for any movie, so it makes sense that he'dmake such an awesome Red Skull. He hams it up just enough to bemenacing and memorable without going over the edge into comical. Withall of these strengths, my only complaint would probably be that themovie had to rush and get Rogers into modern times. I know we've got anAvengers movie to look forward too but I wish we'd had a little moretime of Captain America kicking Nazi butt. Otherwise, CAPTAIN Americawas my surprise hit for the summer.

Saluting the stars and the honor!!

Marvel Entertainment has everything to make it's films survive thestandards of conceptual film-making and also knows that secret recipeto make those superhero films fun to everyone. Captain America thefirst avenger is yet another film which will not change your mindsetand also have something unique both in the sense of big on screenaction and plenty of WOW moments. So does the World War 2 setting addsto the uniqueness, definitely yes!! The story is just not set duringWW2, it reconnects those times with the modern era.The theme of the film is simple and interesting enough to make youstick to your seat. It's storyline is simple yet classic and doesexactly what was asked to do in establishing it's lead character as aniconic superhero. The film features Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) a mere98 pound skinny weakling with strong feeling to serve his countryduring the dark times against Nazi Germany. Yet another thing thatAmerica needs more strong and super soldiers cause Germany already haveone, Johann Schmidt (Hugo Weaving). Despite of his weak and skinny bodyhis spirit is not enough to overcome his body limitations, so hecatches a scientist Dr. Abraham Erskine (Stanley Tucci) who's beenworking on creating a genetic breed of super soldiers. With his serumhe successfully transforms Steve into a genetically enhanced super heroand Steve decides to put that power to good use, for his country asCaptain America.Captain America: The first Avenger is the type of movie that has manypositive assets being the characters, the plot, timing, action and it'samazing tone and feel. With a little comic book tinch in it'sstorytelling director Joe Johnston did an commendable job in presentingthose movie pieces in an authentic way. Overall, a great feature filmwith some really nice elements and amazing action sequences. Definitelya must watch.

Truly remarkable

To be very honest, when I saw the trailers of this movie, I felt itwouldn't do the job right. I love seeing comic books being made intomovies, and I will add that I haven't read many Captain America comics. But Captain America is one of Marvel's biggest characters, if not thebiggest. Every comic book fan knows his amazing shield and thatvirtually nothing can stop the hero when he has it with him. And thisis why I was afraid. Once someone would take the idea and make it intoa movie, that was it. There would be no "revised versions" or anythingof the sort. There could be new versions but that would have to beyears from now. You wouldn't want a movie like this to go wrong. I sawthe trailers and I felt that that was exactly what was going to happen. The great name of Captain America would be ruined by a bad movie. Iresearched a little bit more to find who the director was and my fearsgrew stronger. Joe Johnston, the man who directed films like Jumanji,The Wolfman, and Jurassic Park 3? October Sky was good but that's adrama film. How could someone like that ever make Captain America intoa successful movie? I went into the theater with low expectations.Forgive me if I bored you with this intro, but I felt if I wrote areview for this it had to be necessary. You already know I liked this movie, presuming of course that you readthe title of this review. It starts out with something I didn't expectat all (I'm not going to say what, and I promise I will not give anyvital plot points away, just things you probably already know). Afterthat begins the tale of Steve Rogers, a young man (boy if you wish tocall him that) who wishes to enlist in the army during World War II,but finds it hard to do so because of physical problems (among others). But Steve has a good heart, and that makes all the difference. Afterthat, well, you'll see what happens, but I'm sure you already know ourlittle protagonist becomes a lot stronger (and yes ladies, a lot morehandsome too). After having watched Chris Evans in Fantastic Four asthe Human Torch, I had doubts about him too. I've barely seen any ofhis other movies but I obviously thought he was just a young pretty boywith not much real acting skills. But once again, I was wrong. ChrisEvans is not Johnny (The Human) Torch. Chris Evans is Captain America. If you've seen Fantastic Four and its sequel, forget they ever evenhappened. Don't make the same mistake I did and think Evans is going tobe the same as he was in his role in the two movies I just mentioned. He may not be the best actor out there, but I think he fit the Captainperfectly. Mature and serious for the matter, determined, courageous,good-hearted. Chris Evans pulled off a magnificent job. Evans becamehis truer self (I've seen some of his interviews and he's a prettyserious dude, but before that, I thought he was kind of a jerk based onhis previous film roles). That's probably why he did this role betterthan he's ever done before. This is definitely his performance whichwill lead to him being called "Captain America" by little kids who seehim on the streets. The movie itself was a bit serious, a bit darker than I imagined, andnot very cheesy at all (thank God, that was one of my other fears). Ithas its funny moments, and its depressing moments. But you will enjoyit, at least I hope you will, just as I did. Most of the film's castperformed very good. Hayley Atwell was great as Peggy Carter, therather badass British, and I enjoyed Dominic Cooper's performance asthe smooth and intelligent Howard Stark (yes, Tony's dad). Tommy LeeJones, as was expected, was great in his role as Colonel ChesterPhillips, and Hugo Weaving was sinister as the nefarious Red Skull.Another excellent performer was Stanley Tucci as the almost fatherlyDr. Abraham Erskine. But I think Chris Evans did the best, maybebecause I didn't expect that from him.The film has great effects, none extremely extraordinary, but they dotheir job perfectly. Based during the time of World War II, the movieadopted a sort of old-fashioned, 20th century style. And it worksgreatly. And the plot goes along just well with all of this. Somewherein the middle, I did seem to think the movie was rushing a little toofast, but that's understandable due to length; it's longer than Ithought it would be, 2 hours and 5 minutes. The film has its fair shareof badass moments, moments where everything happens exactly the way youcould possibly hope for them to happen. And moments where the filmgrabs you and makes you feel emotional, attached to the characters, especially Steve Rogers, who you stick out with from the start till theend. The hero marks the spirit of America, and has the power to inspireeveryone throughout the world to be a hero, because as this movieteaches, anyone physically weak or strong can be one as long as theyhave a good heart. And if you've read this entire review, I sincerely thank you greatly. But don't just take my word for it. Go watch it for yourself. Gatheryour opinions. And don't expect this to be the absolute best of thebest because it isn't. But I'm sure if you give it a chance, you'llenjoy the experience as I did.

"Captain America: The First Avenger" is excellent!

"Captain America: The First Avenger" is excellent! This is how the story goes: Steve Rogers volunteers to participate in an experimental program that turns him into the Super Soldier known as Captain America. As Captain America, Rogers joins forces with Bucky Barnes and Peggy Carter to wage war on the evil HYDRA organization, led by the villainous Red Skull. The cast led by Chris Evans (as Steve Rogers / Captain America) is excellent. The directing by Joe Johnston (also executive produced) is excellent. The screenplay (based on the comic books by Jack Kirby & Joe Simon) by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely is excellent. The music by Alan Silvestri is excellent. The cinematography by Shelly Johnson is excellent. The film editing by Jeffrey Ford & Robert Dalva is excellent. The casting by Sarah Finn, Randi Hiller & Priscilla John is excellent. The production design by Rick Heinrichs is excellent. The art direction by Dean Clegg, John Dexter, Phil Harvey, Paul Kirby, Jason Knox-Johnston, Chris Lowe, Andy Nicholson & Phil Sims is excellent. The set decoration by John Bush is excellent. The costume design by Anna B. Sheppard is excellent. The visual & make-up effects are excellent, as well, as the stunt work. This is another excellent comic-book adaptation (from Marvel Studios & Marvel Comics) that is well-made and entertaining. It is also fun and well-paced. Chris Evans is excellent as Steve Rogers / Captain America. This is one of the best movies of the summer and of the year, as well, so far.

Captain America - From Zero To Hero After A Lunchtime Procedure

Captain America huh. What a good ol' boy.A 95 pound weakling is delivered his ultimate fantasy of being asuperhero.I'll talk about Captain America: The First Avenger without spoilers soyou can read without fear. However, I have ticked the 'spoiler' boxmore to be on the safe side so if you don't want to know anything aboutthe film before you see it - don't read this.Superhero movies are either really good like Iron Man or really bad –pick either Hulk movie. Captain America is good. It's better than good. But how good is it? The script is good enough for A grade actors toelevate it into something great. Tommy Lee Jones is engrossing, StanleyTucci is superb and Hugo Weaving as the villainous Nazi just shines inanother bad guy role. He's become the actor who plays the thinkingperson's bad guy – not your garden variety thug. And those eyebrowsjust get better and more expressive with age. One day, they'll be upfor a Best Supporting Role award. One real success of this film is the seamless creation of the punySteve Rogers and the Frankenstein emergence of the bulked upmuscle-bound version of the same bloke. It was like the perfectlunchtime procedure for guys who want plastic surgery but are tooafraid to ask.Howard Stark – inventor and founder of Stark Industries has none of thecharm and charisma of Tony Stark. Of course that may have a lot to dowith the difference between Robert Downey Jr and Dominic Cooper. Thenagain – it ain't Howard's movie.Female roles are few and far between but the ones that are there arerelevant and worthwhile. Hayley Atwell does a great job as the loveinterest but it's her skill set and attitude that are more interesting.Nice to see Natalie Dormer in something after her seminal performancein the TV drama The Tudors – but the role was far too small for hertalent. She owned it and nailed it though.Seeing the original Captain America was cracking it way back in WW2,director Joe Johnstone could work the nostalgic angle without too manyclichés. Sure he's observed a formula but it suits the material - he'smade a genre film.Red Skull's lair is the kind of real estate you'd expect a bad guy toown - suitably villainous, remote and built into the side of a snowycliff. He exhibits the expected disdain for anyone who works for him aswell as the typical megalomania that comes with wanting to take overthe world or destroy it – whichever is the easier option. Ever sinceAustin Powers movies however, it is hard to watch this kind of villainwithout anticipating comedy. If anything is disappointing, it's the henchmen. They can't throwpunches that connect and they die too easily. Now I'm starting tounderstand a villain's disdain for his own men. Guess it's like the ol'saying – it's hard to find good help.Sadly for Paramount, this is their last film of a Marvel character asthe baton now gets passed to Disney. Interesting to see what they willdo with the Marvel stable from now on.So back to Captain America. Chris Evans does the job well. He's likableand capable. But for my taste, he's just a bit too goody-two-shoes andnowhere near as conflicted and brooding as I'd like him to be. He hasmore in common with Superman than Batman. But that's the gig, right? While 3D has its drawbacks, I liked the effect on the opening comicgraphics and it works a treat when the cinematographer works a niftypull-focus from background to foreground. And of course you gotta stay to the end to get the special bit of videothat sets up the next movie. But it took way too long to get to the endof the credit roll. It needed to be twice as fast. It was so slow andboring with no fancy graphics at all, one guy in the cinema yelled out,'this better be good!' And it was.I'm so glad this movie didn't come out when George W Bush was in poweras Globocop. He would have taken it as a metaphor for himself.Oh wait – 'metaphor' – he wouldn't know what the word means. But I bethe would have cottoned onto Vibranium quickly enough. Sounds like agood investment. Think I might see if Rio Tinto has found any inWestern Australia and get me some shares in it.

The man to represent America isn't actually a man. He's a man on Viagra for muscles, nothing more.

The characters were thrust into their roles like placeholders in amathematical equation. Their back-stories had little weight. Thisfilm's greatest failure was having the potential to create an awesomeworld of heroic duty to one's country, but instead, created a man whonever grew to become a true man of his country. Rather, he fell back onhis new upgrades and just went straight into the role of CaptainAmerica.I walked out of the theater during the scene when he rides hismotorbike into the camp of the Germans to their underground facility. Asniper could have easily taken him out at any time. A rocket could havetaken him out. A tank could have taken him out. There's no greatstruggle here, just some nice CGI.I didn't see the rest of the film, so I don't know if the movie wasable to redeem itself. I was just so fed up with presented with whatwas supposed to be a man of bravery and courage. It took WilliamWallace (BRAVEHEART) true courage to take on the English. CaptainAmerica has none, because he is untouchable, and therefore, unAmerican. We are the home of the free and the land of the... what? BRAVE.Americans, you should really start to evaluate what you think anAmerican is. I have nothing against pure action movies, but this film Ithink was supposed to represent something more than testosterone-enhanced men running around with the American symbol.

Full bodied comic book movie.

Captain America joins the list of great comic book movies. It has beenfascinating to watch Marvel bring these characters to the screen fromIron Man and now to Captain America. I'm going to admit when I firstheard that Chris Evans was going to be portraying Steve Rogers I was alittle worried and even after the first couple previews I didn't knowwhat to expect. I was 100% wrong, he was a great choice for this role.Hugo Weaving as Red Skull was an obvious choice and worked outperfectly, Weaving has a knack for giving off a sinister demeanor.Tommy Lee Jones is one of my favorite actors and has his role as anArmy Colonel is amazing. In most movies I've seen with him he has apersonality of commanding authority so to choose him as a Colonel seemslike a right choice. Now to the plot of the movie. Steve Rogers is a skinny weakling whoreally wants to join the Army and go to Europe to serve his country.Unfortunately he keeps getting denied enlistment. Until his fifth try,Dr. Erskine (Stanley Tucci) gives him a chance in a new unit that istrying to find a subject for an experimental procedure. After this he's a public figure for a while until he can no longer siton the side lines and does what he was meant to do.Since I do not want to spoil this wonderful movie experience for you Iam going to stop there. However I will say this, I was very pleasedthat, like with Iron Man, these movies are taking there time to give agood back round for these characters instead of just plunging rightinto the action incoherently. This is a great movie, I have no doubt about it. I would recommend thisto anyone, even if you are not a comic book fan. This is one of therare ones where you don't have to be, you can just sit back and enjoythis movie.

Some problems but Entertaining none the less

Going into yet another Super Hero movie leaves you wondering what typeof crazy story will I be delving myself into this time. The problembeing is that their are a few movies that have set such a standard thatif no other super hero movie is the same then they somehow get crappyratings.Captain America is the first of possibly more then one film, but as itstands the team behind the captain did a good job. The story flowedvery fluently in creating a character who had nothing into someone whostill had heart and soul while being the beast of a man he has alwaysbeen inside. I think a lot of the complaints of this movie have to dowith "over animation" or that it was too cheesy. Here's the thing about animation. Its difficult, long, and very tediouswork to do. If you can give me an easier way they could have portrayedcaptain America as a tiny little weak nobody then all of the sudden a 7ft. Super Warrior.... without animations? please feel free to explainhow you would do that because you would be making millions. The thing is that yes I believe the film is over animated in a lot ofways however, the animation was quality enough to where it wasn'tdominant and it was entertaining. As for the cheesy writing in someareas yes, I agree that they went a bit overboard with some stuff but... I mean the guys name is Captain America..... really...?Overall my outlook on the film is a positive one, I think they set upCaptain America nicely for the upcoming Avengers film and I believethat film will deliver the Amazing writing and showing we hoped for inthis film.

CAPTAIN America

This movie was great, the acting was very good and the story waswritten perfectly, the humor the action the seriousness of this filmwas all put together very well. This is one of the first superheromovies that is well made and actually feels like a comic book onscreen. This is one of my favorite comic movies and i love that theykeep making more superhero movies, when all of the marvel characterscome together its going to be great, The Avengers is going to beexcellent and the way in this movie how they had captain America cometo the future was awesome, its all coming togehter smoothly for marveland i don't think it could be done any better. all the movies that havebeen made and are part of the avengers have all been top notch, youhave iron man 1 and 2 they were great, thor was very good, the lasthulk was much better even though in the avengers its a different actorthen from the movie, and captain America to rap it up for the avengers

A silly movie that takes itself too seriously

This could have been a much better movie ..... the acting was there, the story was basically sound, the art direction was superb and theHydra weaponry and vehicles were incredibly well modelled. The main problem was this that the movie took itself way too seriouslyAND at the same time had so many ridiculous moments. I laughed out loudat a number of scenes that were not meant to be funny. The biggest sinwas perhaps having CA and his team do too much, against too much withtoo little ..... it was just impossible for me to suspend disbelief andkeep a straight face. They made the A-team look like amateurs atdodging bullets. I guess the Nazis were polite and only shoot atshields and also wait their turn to shoot one at a time against a guywith a big target painted on him.The whole CA thing didn't work for me either, but I could get beyondthat with a little effort.Good acting saved the movie from being horrid.

The declining attention span of the US Audience

Really? First of all, the whole Nazi alternative history theme shouldbe retired. Second, I love Marvel comics, read them as a boy, many ofthem. I liked them. So I understand the initial urge to accept yetanother movie bringing up the Marvel super heroes. Ever since Stan Leedecided to retire and count his money, the franchise has declined intomere commercialism. Sometimes the same old tricks, and the tired chasescenes and the over-worked dangling from peril scenes can only bestretched so far...in this film it is to far. After watching the film Icould not tell you what is was about, it is completely forgettable. Icannot recall a single interesting moment beyond my surprise to seethat Tommy Lee Jones is in the film. I had no idea he was. Really, I amastonished at the overall high rating of this piece of trash. Is theattention span of the movie-going public so in decline? That such apoor film could be so well rated is mysterious to me and would make amore interesting subject for a movie than this film was.

The best superhero movie of the year without any gimmicks

I've never followed Captain America in comics though I do know a littlebit of the origin. So I'm one of the people who could sit back andenjoy the movie for what it was rather than nitpick on gaps in the CAlore. The best thing about the movie is what's not in it- and that's cheapadvertising gimmicks, such as a character opening a laptop to show anApple or Sony logo, or car symbols or Coke, Pepsi or any fast foodrestaurant. It, however, would have been interesting to see if theycould tie CA into their food products by having Marvel burgers or theAmerican Superburger...I dislike cheap advertising tricks andthankfully this was completely avoided. Gone also was any chance ofusing high tech gadgets much like what was shown in Iron Man 2.I found the plot interesting- the buildup to Steve Rogers becomingCaptain American was done well and very interesting. The downside wouldbe the action sequences which I thought would be more realistic orappropriate to the time setting. Instead several sequences were morereminiscent of what Iron Man 2 felt like.As I'm not a CA follower some of the historical nods to certain symbolsor the side characters themselves were lost to me but I did enjoy thatHoward Stark's character was in the movie as it introduced the originof Stark Industries and it's technologies of the future.Actingwise Chris Evans did a surprisingly good job. In Fantastic Fourhe was OTT and hammed a lot and was generally quite annoying. Here he'smore serious, focused and determined. There were a lot less quips, something I really detest in American made super hero movies. Thecheesy quips might work in graphic novels or comics but in movies itcomes off as plain lame. Hugo Weaving was quite good though too- he'sbecoming quite popular in characters taken from literature, comics orcartoons. This is a movie for pretty much every age gap. There are no swear words(I don't even think the word damn makes it into the movie!) and no sexscenes so kids are perfectly fine to watch it. It's definitely the bestsuperhero movie of the year and one of the better ones made entirely. Idoubt that any sequel will be as good in terms of plot and storysetting but in the meantime enjoy this summer gem.

Incredible Movie, should be watched by everyone!

I never had any relationship to the Captain America comics, i alwaysfound the all-American hero to be a bit too much for me. Based on this,i did not have high expectations for this movie. I was proved wrong. From the first scene to the last i was glued to the screen. Chris Evansportrays the All-American kid from Brooklyn Steve Rogers perfectly. Through this movie my joy for Captain America was highly raised. Overthe last years there has been many movies based off of Marvels comicbook superheroes, this is by far my favorite, it gave life to probablythe most heroic of all the superheroes. The antagonist is alsoportrayed rather well. The only thing i did not like about the movie isthe ending. I feel like it was a bit pushed so that it would fit withThe Avengers in 2012, but that was it.To give this movie an eight is based on the fact that this movie didjustice to the comic book character and showed him as a freedomfighter, someone who will do anything to keep people safe, instead onshowing him off with his red, white and blue colors. If you likesuperheroes, you really should watch this one.

Just Another Average super hero movie

I don't know if its just me or what, but the last few super hero movieshave just been mediocre including Captain America. I am surprised tosee people give it 8,9, and 10 stars. Wow I can just imagine theirtaste. The action scenes were not elaborate enough. The movie had a lot ofaction scenes but in all Mr. Captain America - Super Human somehowmanages to dodge all the laser shot (or whatever they were) and savesthe day.Well its just not captain America, but I have been disappointed byother recent super hero movies like Green Lantern, Thor, Iron Man 2etc. And now they are coming out with the Amazing Spider Man ... Wowdint we have enough of Tobey Maguire in the first 3 installments andnow its all over again.Last well made super hero movie as we all know was Batman Dark Knight.Do correct me if I am wrong here.

Underrated - Great Action Adventure Movie

I did not know what to expect when I purchased this movie. This is avery positive and uplifting film. Not a "Chick Flick" a great "Guy"movie. This movie is an inspiration for those males of all ages, astory for those that had to struggle with their lack of physicalability, There is hope for us. Experience has shown me that when amovie is made about a Comic Book Hero, the hero comes across pretty"Comic" and unbelievable. Having read these books in my youth, I waslooking forward to see what they would do with it. I was very pleasedthat they did not try to inject an anti USA message here. This is aGood vs. Evil story as most comic books were. Having Tommy Lee Jones, and Hugo Weaving who brought their professionalism to this productioncertainly made the difference. Different film editing would have madethis an Oscar contender for sure is the only weak point I could find. This film coming out when the "Super Soldier" programs that variousgovernments are working on makes it timely and more believable. TheSpecial Effects are not overdone they work well with the story and aredone is such a way that enhances the story without taking it over tomake up for a weak script or acting, not the case here. Very well done.Chris Evans did a wonderful job, and I look forward to more from him.The director Joe Johnson did an outstanding job with the screenplay. Ilook forward to see what comes next.
