| Storyline | A vengeful father escapes from hell and chases after the men who killed his daughter and kidnapped his granddaughter. |
A calculatedly over-the-top grindhouse-inspired rabble-rouser, marred by the self-congratulatory 'hipness' of its callously comic attitude toward violence.
Nic should be caged for appearing in this dreck, but we all know he'lltake any $$$ for all the debt he's acquired. This movie has the--rhymes with 'greyest"-- villain I've seen since "Quantum Of Solace".Madam Sonya Palm Reader could beat this Satan to a pulp. The onlyreason this movie rates a "1" is for the 3 nice looking birds whoappear in various states of attire throughout. The gore is forced although not really gratuitous for this sort ofjunk. Everything else is perfunctory except the final demise of saidfey baddie which looks like an outtake from a '60's psychedelic movie. This is my 10th qualifying line.
Some films do as the title suggests or give a good indication as whatto expect but Drive Angry fails to deliver. Even with a budget of $50million, every scene with cars sees them driving at moderately fastspeeds but never reaches the insanity of Bad Boys 2 or The Rock.Although after all this time, I think I should know what to expect fromNicolas Cage today.Whether or not the actor is out of his financial troubles or not, thefilms keep on coming and while Drive Angry is not his worst one todate, it is by no means his best. He does give a fairly decentperformance as John Milton, a man who escaped from hell to save hisgranddaughter but lacks any energy. In Season of the Witch he plays asoldier drained by endless war and here again he looks tired andbeaten. This can work sometimes but we never feel any sympathy for himreally because the film never tries. It doesn't help that the villainis no more than a crazed country lunatic in charge of a cult. What makes the film entertaining is William Fichtner who always gives asolid performance at the very least. Here is steals the entire filmwhen he is on screen as The Accountant. Amber Heard pales in comparisonto Fichtner but still does a good job even with a weak script and willundoubtedly move on to greater things in the future. The action itself is fun but never really escalates. The way the filmis clearly shot for 3D makes the action entertaining but since Cage'scharacter is shot repeatedly and never dies takes something away fromthe film. There are also a few CGI moments that fail to impress, particularly one towards the end. As a film not to be taken seriously, its OK and passes as anentertaining action film while watching it but in retrospect, the filmlacks any substance or reason to care for what is going on. For a filmthat is meant to be about the driving but instead the characters stopat the sight of a roadblock and cannot deliver on one decent car chase, that should probably tell you enough.
Trashily amusing at first, the picture becomes repetitive and tiresome.
I'm going to keep this short and simple. WORST MOVIE SINCE SHOOT EM UP!!!!! AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!!!Sincerely,Kristopher Ramer
OK I used to consider Nicolas Cage a very good actor even when he has alot of popcorn movies which are pretty far from beign good. Even seasonof the witch was hardly critizised when it is not a bad movie at all (at least in my opinion) But here definitely Cage hits the bottom Idon't think he can choose something worst than this. It is so terriblethat no matter what he does next it will still look like a masterpiece.I will admit that the first 20 minutes are great entertainment: Extremeviolence, hot chicks and ridiculous dialogues sometimes work for me.But honestly, this is so exagereted and incoherent that you don't knowif this is comedy, action, horror or just a big piece of crap that goesnowhere. I think that it could be easily the last option and by the waynever ever consider watching it in 3d it will be the same horrendousmovie just more expensive.
I knew this would be a shallow movie going in but I was mistaken that the 3D aspect would be able to compensate for that. Worse, there were a lot of double lines in my Real 3D viewing of this movie and the 3D didn't pop or thrill or add anything to the movie. As for the film, it was extremely violent but not giddily exessive enough to push this movie into the catagory of trashy pleasure. In short, a man escapes hell to save the life of his granddaughter from a satanic cult with an "accountant" from hell on his tail to bring him (and a stolen God-killing gun)back. Cage's character and everyone else was strictly comic book depth. There was some humor in two performances -- the accountant and the heroine's fiance -- but there was a lot in this movie that made my eyes roll back in their sockets. I'm glad some people enjoy this movie on the level it was intended but it left me annoyed and cold. Piranha 3D was another bad movie but it went that step extra into excess that this movie didn't do, despite the many explosions and gunshot wounds. Many will disagree with me but with respect, that's how this movie affected me.
"Drive Angry" has a great prologue: Nicolas Cage kills a coupletruckers. Or one. I don't remember. Then for a while after that, themovie is a little slow-going. I thought the movie was going to get lessinteresting. Glad I was wrong, because, judging from the title of themovie, I was expecting to have a good time. William Fichtner is a hoot.He comes off somewhere between a bad guy and just a plain weird one.Although I don't see what the point of his character is. Speaking ofcharacters, Amber Heard is given a thankless role. Like in "TheStepfather", she's just there to show off. Nothing more. If you likeaction pictures, especially old-fashioned ones, see "Drive Angry". Asfor the 3-D part of the movie, I enjoyed the flying bullet!*** out of ****
After seeing INGLORIOUS BASTERDS a few years back, I've been waitingfor some fun R-rated movies again since it's those films that reallymake my day. Sure, MACHETE came out but that's it; nothing like thatcame out.Thank God for stuff like DRIVE ANGRY 3D.Unlike most other 3D films, DRIVE ANGRY seems like it was MEANT to bein 3D (AVATAR, TRON LEGACY) since most other films (CLASH OF THETITANS, THE GREEN HORNET, DESPICABLE ME) were rushed into 3D in duringpost-production for income's sake. And unlike most films, it doesn'ttake itself too seriously. The story is very predictable but that was the point; at least thescript is badass enough to make up for the story. Acting was good sincethe cast could fit in any other grindhouse film and make ti work, though the cult leader wasn't really fleshed enough. The Accountant andMilton stand out since it's obvious the actors were having fun playingtheir roles. And the film has a badass soundtrack to boot. The action was rightfully violent and gory, balancing vehicularslaughter with firefights on par with Robert Rodriguez films though themain chase scene in the middle of the film seemed a bit too long and itdragged out in the end. Aside from that, the action served its purpose. The only problem I saw with this film is that it isn't one of thosefilms that you'd want to see over and over again. Sure, it's trashyfun, bringing back the old days of the exploitation film but for somereason this is the kind of movie I wouldn't pay to see twice. My bestguess would be the running time; running at almost two hours, DRIVEANGRY 3D is a bit too long compared to other faster paced actionmovies. The shock value decreases as the movie runs since the number ofinteresting ways to kill someone also decrease. Those aside, don't takethe film too seriously and you'll have a fun time watching DRIVE ANGRY3D.
DRIVE ANGRY (2010): with Nicolas Cage, Amber Heard, William Fichtner,Billy Burke and David Morse, directed by Patrick Lussier. Rating: 6/10.THIS wild, bizarre, ultra violent seventies-style grindhouse actionhorror flick finds Nic Cage wearing perhaps his most ridiculous onscreen wig yet. Cage is pretty cool, though, as John Milton, a hauntedfather who escapes from Hell (with the Devil's right hand man, playedby William Fichtner, in hot pursuit) and sets out to save hisgranddaughter from satanic cult leader Jonah King (Billy Burke) who isabout to sacrifice the infant under a full moon.Milton teams up with a tough, two-fisted, hot pants-wearing waitressnamed Piper (Amber Heard) - who has had enough of her cheatingboyfriend and certainly does not hit like a girl , and the two head offdown the Louisiana highway in a stolen 1969 Dodge Charger."Drive Angry 3D" is not subtle, and the amount of blood-spatteredviolence and the abundant nudity ensure that is not for all tastes. Noris it a particularly good film. Plus, it falls to pieces abouttwo-thirds of the way through. But it so outrageous that anyone, likeme, with a passion for gritty, violent, cheesy, car chase-filledseventies action cinema will find things to appreciate about it. Theperformances are interesting (especially from Fichtner and Morse),Heard is real easy on the eyes, a lecherous fat man gets his testiclestwisted by Piper, and it contains the funniest, most violent, audaciousand shocking sex scene/shoot out ever seen on the screen. Plus, the 3Deffects are rather good.
This is yet another wild fun ride that requires a certain mindset to enjoy. This movie is purposely made to be ridiculous. Senseless storyline and over-the-top action (reminds me of Machete). If you enjoy lots of action and just feel like having fun without caring about the story, you'll enjoy it, because it offers you tons of non-stop action with really no story =) Otherwise, please don't even bother going to see this movie, you will be disappointed.
Drive Angry is about a guy who breaks out of hell to avenge the deathof his daughter and save his granddaughter from being sacrificed bysatanists, trying to trigger the Armageddon. That guy is Nicolas Cageand even though he was in hell, he's actually a pretty nice, friendlyguy, always ready to help a damsel in distress and put things right. The damsel ends up being a hot and tough chick who helps him in hisquest while they're also being chased by "an accountant" sent from hellto bring our hero back. In these kinds of movies its always best not tothink too much about the story so I guess this premise is good enoughto provide some backdrop to the action. This is not a bad movie, especially for today's standards where everything seems to besickeningly politically correct, all very clean and so so boring. Thedays of Commando are long gone in this PG13 world so its refreshing tosee a movie like DA. There's lots of violence, loads of deaths andgore, nudity and an abundant use of the F bomb. The movie moves at aquick pace and things are never boring with what seems to be afirefight every five minutes and for each fight at least a slow motionof Cage blowing some poor schmuck away in a cool way. We're supposed tosay: "man, this guy is a bad-ass, awesome!" but for some reason I neverdid. The movie almost seems too desperate to be cool and hip and...well bad-ass but it never quite reaches its ambition. Maybe NicolasCage was the wrong choice. He has been so overexposed in what seemshundreds of movies, in bellow par roles, he's just not credible inanything anymore. Nic is spent, seems tired and even bored most of thetime. He's old with his glory days far behind. Amber Heard playing hisside-kick is also to blame for the lack of a spark the movie badlyneeded. She's annoying instead of spunky. Perhaps its her character'sfault who seems to border on the "just plain unlikable" but she alsoseems to lack that toughness needed for the part. She's just notbelievable as a tough chick. Which leaves us with two saving graces.William Fichtner and Billy Burke are both amazingly awesome. WF as "theaccountant" seems to be really enjoying himself, playing cool, havingfun and it works so well. Billy Burke is great as the villain, a realcrazy, really fun bastard. He has great lines, makes the most of themand steals the show along with Fichtner. The action is well directedand some scenes are very imaginative and entertaining and the climaxworks well. Drive Angry never rises to greatness but never lowersitself to garbage. Its an entertaining, harmless movie which wont leavea mark but wont disappoint either. It will keep you busy but it wontblow you away. Not bad for what we're used to these days.
What is Drive Angry? Well its not "Faster", it's not "Gone in 60 Seconds", and it sure isn't anything I've seen before.First of all, don't see this film for Nic Cage freakout moments, that's what youtube is for. He gets a little angry...and yes, he drives a car...but the star of this movie is without a doubt, William Fitchner. Every second of him on screen puts a smile on your face. It's one of those films where you can absolutely tell the actors were having fun making it. Is it worth $15-$20...nope...but on a hot summer night when you and your friends don't know what to do, order a pizza (or $5 Pzones), grab a bunch of beer, kick back, and just have some fun....that's all this movie really is.People who give this film 1 star don't really know what they're talking about I think...what did they expect? Ask yourself what you expect after reading this:"A sweet, sassy country gal meets a man who has come back from hell in order to stop a cult leader from murdering his granddaughter...along the way, the devil's right-hand man, The Accountant, forces him to play a game of cat and mouse while we figure out what side The Accountant is really on"...oh, also, there's a gun called The God Killer...and it kicks ass.ya...really...if you rent this film, know what you're getting yourself into...this is pure mindless fun....now who's got a cold one for me?
it is horrible. painful to sit through and watch. 3D effects areminimal, no need to make this movie in 3D except to charge higherticket prices. acting is really bad, story line is weak and never veryclear, fight scenes are very unrealistic, no bruising or marks of anykind after horrendous fight sequences. Nicholas Cage must need moneybadly to be in such a poor production for someone of his talent andstanding in Hollywood. do not waste your hard earned money on thisfilm. we never understand why his grandchild is so special. someeffects are cool and some great explosions but that's where the goodstuff ends.
Being a fan of Cage flicks ranging from The Rock to Vampires kiss, this is by far the best he's done to date. I don't mean an oscar worthy performance, no-sir. This is exploitation film at it's finest. If you are a fan of Machete, Shoot em up, Planet Terror or any other grindhouse esque film, your wallet better be in your hand, the credit card embedded into your computer screen and the flames of hell shooting out of your eyeballs.
Drive me angry, definitely a C-Class movie. Not even a single memorablemoment. Milton (Nicolas Cage) is a father who escapes from hell toavenge his daughter's death and urges to save the only babygranddaughter, meanwhile the Accountant from hell is assigned toretrieve Milton. I wish I don't have to review thiz movie, bcoz badwords gonna break loose either. Trapped inside the Cage again, we'retired of your experimental Hot-Shot wannabe since "Ghost Rider" (2007).Amber Heard is expected to be the Hot Chick element but on the contraryshe has become unsexy and extremely boring. The villain, Billy Burke isexpected to be fierce and memorable, but instead of that he deliversemptiness. The only appearance that's a rather sizable is coming fromWilliam Fichtner as the Accountant with his charismatic and eccentriccharacter. The story itself is never clear since the first time. Theaction sequences are amusing, always shaking all the time and notfocus. I didn't even know what is really going on at that time. Yeah,it's a terrible cinematography. It's coming from the Director whoalmost every time putting anything that smells cliché and not originalinto his films, such as: "Dracula 2000" (2000) and the remake "MyBloody Valentine" (2009). It is intended to be made as Cult Movie orsomething different, but eventually it becomes a big blunder. "Gimmeone good reason I shouldn't shoot you in the face", well I know you'redriving,.. But your driving is sucks.Visit My Blog on JONNY'S MOVEE: http://jonnyfendi.blogspot.com

This review is from: Drive Angry [Blu-ray 3D] (Blu-ray) There's no question, in my mind, why this movie got bad reviews. No professional critic would ever give this film a good review for fear of the fallout from those that would find it deeply offensive. In spite of the lack of any real moral high ground, I give credit to those involved for being brave enough to create such a film. I find it surprising this didn't garnish an X rating. Not just for the nudity and sexual content, which is the most I've seen in a long while, but for the level of violence which defines this work.I docked it a star on a few points. Some of the effects were pretty; well; faky, unrealistic and downright silly. Not a huge factor in light of the premise and genre, but enough. The acting was OK. William Fichtner, as previously noted, is good as the accountant, adding his usual flare with a few twists. Cage is promisingly not annoying or arrogant. His gun fighting is top notch and cool, as is the car action.Don't watch this if you're sensitive to graphic violence because this movie is all about violence and evil for it's own sake. There are no men in white hats here.
I love it! My husband & I both enjoyed it, glad I bought it. Watched it once & then again the next day. Reminds me some of Ghost Rider with a Quentin Tarentino and Robert Rodriguez twist. Have read a bunch of reviews mentioning Nic Cage's bad dead pan acting & bad hair . . . that's just him, either you like him or you don't. I like his acting in this, similar to Gone in 60 seconds & Ghost Rider and let's face it Nic Cage is not a pretty boy and his hair will never be pretty either. But I like him playing the good guy badass :0) thoroughly enjoyed it!
The film offers some (visual) pleasures, but, really, what motivates a talented actor such as Nicolas Cage to make one trashy actioner after another?
