Bomb on the producers!

Warning: Spoilers!!!Stupid, racist film again. I don't care about the rest of the movie, all Iremember are negative stereotypes. I think Islam is a big Religion and wehave NO right to offend it so much, especially when we are basing it all oninaccuracies. How would we like it if they made a movie making fun ofChrist and refering to his disciples as women raping terrorists? It is justas offensive to Muslims that we made this movie. I think it is theresponsiblity of all people to stick up for others when they see a patheticmovie like this come out. I boycott this movie, and I urge others toboycott it also. I would love to see it's production recalled permanently. If people can't learn to make movies without so blatantly offending a groupof people (obviously purposely by the way the scenes were shot) then theyshould STOP MAKING MOVIES. PEOPLE'S FEELINGS ARE MORE IMPORTANT THAN ANACTION MOVIE.

one word: dynamite!

Slam-bang thriller is an intense, pulse-pounding thrill ride frombeginning to end. Russell stars as a smart but inexperiencedintelligence analyst who's given the task of a lifetime when he, alongwith a group of rugged special forces commandos, must board an American747 in mid-air after it's hijacked by ruthless internationalterrorists. It's a race against time as they must not only ensure thesafety of all the passengers, but retake the plane before it can reachthe U.S. eastern seaboard. Swift direction, exciting, skillful actionsequences, endless suspense, and rock solid performances make this wildride of a movie a definite must for action fans. ***

Die-Hard on a plane...again?

There were loads of die-hard clones, heck even Harrison Ford did one in AirForce One - but why is the Die-Hard-in-the-Air overused? Perhaps producersdidn't think that the other films did it justice? Well even so, this is avery well produced and sometimes well-rounded action film that delivers notbang-for-your-buck, but more tension-for-your-buck.Kurt Russell plays a James Bond-wannabe and is recruited with a top levelSWAT styled team headed by Steven Seagal - at first I was hoping for amish-mash, a chalk-cheese type background between these two characters - butinstead they do one better, they kill off Steven Seagal. When I saw this inthe cinema, everyone cheered (I'm not kidding) when they saw him flyout...that scene although is meant to be serious just plays as being veryfunny. The rest of the film is fine with well-meaning tension stuff, it justdoesn't seem to flow or feel like a die-hard type film. Suchet (anotherEnglish bad guy!) is vastly underwritten and he plays his role far betterthan anyone else (even overshadowing Russell). Its a shame Suchet's character wasn't written as well as it could have been- and its a shame that we didn't get to see this "executive decision"carried out, whatever it was meant to be.Anyway, its a good film for a lazy Friday night, but if your wanting a goodold time, its better to stick the original - Die Hard.Overall: 3/10

Great action film, that's quite effective, and rather tense, with a pretty solid story, and excellent performances! *Spoilers*

This is a great action film, that's quite effective, and rather tense, with a pretty solid story, and excellent performances!. All thecharacters are cool, and the only beef I really had with it was it wasa tad overlong, plus Kurt Russell is simply amazing in this!. It'spretty well made and written, and the finale is especially tense, plusit was surprisingly unpredictable throughout. I will admit Idisappointed that Steven Seagal got killed off right away, however Igive him a lot of credit for taking this type of role, and Robert Apisaplayed a very good villain here and was menacing, plus it has quite afew shocking moments as well. All the characters are very likable, andHalle Berry has a small but cool role here, plus it has a decent amountof violence too. I was quite pleased with the ending, and a lot of thetense scenes were when Oliver Platt(Cahill) and Joe Morton("Cappy") aretrying to stop the bombs, plus I would have loved seeing Russell andSeagal work as a team throughout the film. This is a great action film, that's quite effective, and rather tense, with a pretty solid story andexcellent performances, I highly recommend this one!. The Direction isgreat!. Stuart Baird does a great! job here, with very good camerawork, solid angles and just keeping the film at a very fast pace. TheActing is excellent!. Kurt Russell is amazing as always and is amazinghere, he is extremely likable, funny, makes a very effective actionhero, brought life and humor to his potentially boring character, andjust did an amazing job overall! (Russell rules!!!!). Steven Seagal isvery effective in his role, but we didn't get much time to know himbecause he gets killed off pretty quickly sadly, however I give himcredit for taking this type of role, just wished he stayed alive(Seagal Rules!!!!!!!). Halle Berry is very good in her role here, shewas charming, and made her part look bigger then it actually was, she'salso gorgeous. John Leguizamo is pretty good here actually, heconvinced me and was likable enough I rather dug him. Oliver Platt isgreat in his role, I'm not usually a big fan but he was great here. JoeMorton is great as the bomb specialist, I really liked him. RobertApisa is excellent as the main villain, he was quite menacing, you willreally hate him. Rest of the cast do fine. Overall I highly recommendthis one!. ***1/2 out of 5

A First Class Action Thriller

"Executive Decision" is a first class action thriller. It takes a familiarpremise and story and makes it in to a very entertaining movie. This isprobably my favorite Kurt Russel movie. This film has a lot of suspense andthe suspense is very effective. The supporting cast in this film does solidwork also, for anyone who likes this movie I also reccomend "Air ForceOne"

Terror in the air that rates a look-see.

Action packed story of a group of commandosthat board a 747 mid flight and attempt toovercome the terrorists who've taken control.Kurt Russell, the non-military interloper, has to take charge of the situation in Steven Segal'sabsence.Good entertainment and faults aside, well worth a look.Rating 6/10

The best airborne action film since Airport

I don't watch a lot of "contemporary action" flicks, but this one is really good. To me, its scenario of a jetliner being used as a weapon of terror has an eerie prescience that lends a touch of horror and plausibility that its makers, back in 1996, probably didn't anticipate. Kurt Russell plays Dr. Donald Grant, a think-tanker who, through a series of plot twists, finds himself, along with a technical engineer (Oliver Platt) and a special-forces team (John Leguizamo, Joe Morton, B. D. Wong, Whip Hubley), secretly boarding a 747 that has been hijacked by a fanatic Islamic terrorist (David Suchet) and his band--most of whom don't have a clue about his secret agenda, a nerve-gas bomb whose presence Grant has deduced from his studies of the perp. Their mission: find and disarm the bomb and take down the terrorists before they can slaughter the entire East Coast. With the help of a stewardess (Halle Berry) and a plainclothes air marshal (Richard Riehle), they do both, only to find that the pilots have been killed and Grant, who's never flown anything bigger than a single-engine Cessna, must get the damaged liner down safely. The tension keeps ratcheting up steadily as complications are tossed into the Americans' path: the loss of their leader (Steven Seagal) and much of their equipment, an injured team member (who happens to be its bomb expert), the discovery of failsafes on the bomb and a sleeper agent aboard who can set it off manually, and a flight of combat jets prepared to shoot the plane down. Even after you've viewed it once, you'll still find yourself jamming your foot on the brake in the last few minutes as the crippled liner makes a long terrifying slide through ranks of parked small craft and into an earthen berm. A wild ride and one that any lover of nonstop action should enjoy.

Fasten your seat belts

Kurt Russell, Steven Seagal, John Leguizamo, Halle Berry, and Joe Morton team up to take on terrorists who have hijacked a 747 jet, while also trying to diffuse a bomb before it destroys the entire east coast. This has to be Seagal's only movie where he is not the main character and gets killed off at the beginning of the film. He had a few parts, but decided to let himself go as the film got going. Though this film packs a wallop, I thought Passenger 57 was better.

buyIt

EXECUTIVE DECISION by Warner Studios with a running time of 133 minutes in color starring Kurt Russell and Halle Berry receives five stars from me because of the overall package that it gives to the viewer. It has suspense, action, and drama. I think the movie was real smooth in responding to the different situations that arose on the airplane and the resources that were used to aid them. The spy cams and sleepers are great. I was on the edge of my seat the entire show. Joe Morton was great also--who could diffuse a bomb with a broken neck. Halle Berry--wonderful job--brave in the face of adversity. However, to have the whole plane saved by a piece of plastic is just funny as ever, which gives it a little comical bit. The only part that was confusing was that S. Seagal was killed out very early in the show and for someone of his stature, it seemed odd. Overall, I just love this movie. It is the best.

A thrilling ride!

This is a good movie from producer Joel Silver and Stuart Baird whomakes his directorial debute. Kurt Russell is excellent as an IntellegenceAgent who turns soldier in the movie. Steven Segal has one of his brief butbetter parts. The supporting cast is great and a great music score by JerryGoldsmith plus a good thrilling plot. The only draw back is in some scenes, the 747 looks too much like a special effects model and didn't look realenough (especially the scenes involving the mid-air transfer from the F-117)but that's not really that important it's just something I noticed. Givethis movie a try, it's worth it.

Not Enough Action

Enjoyed the film especially the casting but where is the action? I don't like "action" movies without action. There is some suspense though. The cast is great with everyone from David Suchet (Poirot) playing a villain to Leguizamo, Berry and Steven Seagal who gets ousted in the first few minutes.

A movie like "Air Force One"

It is good family movie. Halle Berry is one of the good actress. The situation that has been created in this film is great

"Ridiculous...!!!"

It is hard for me to fathom that anybody would even think about comparingthis Van-Damme League stupid man's suspense thriller to the superb andabsolutely riveting Air Force One!!! Here's a thriller packed with actionand edge-of-your-seat suspense. But THIS. what can I say. It is foolishandI feel sorry for Kurt who truly IS a great actor. Only see this movie ifyoulike M:I-2, Passenger 57 and True Lies. Do NOT see this movie, however, ifyou prefer Where Eagles Dare, Das Boot and The Cider HouseRules.IMDb rating: 5

Censored US Blu Ray version of the movie BEWARE.

This is an excellent action movie that is right now a Best Buy exclusive for now. I had seen this movie in theaters when first released and owned the dvd version of this movie also. There is one problem with the US release of this movie. On the rating marker on the back of the disc case it says some scenes were altered from the original version. What happen is they cut and shorten certain scenes in the movie to be after 911 freindly. You can do a search online to read on the various forums on what was taken out. This is a movie that was shown in theaters back in 1996 why would Warner Bros release a chopped up version of the movie onto blu ray is very disapointing. What I read was they took the censored overseas cut of the film and just released that version onto blu ray in the US. The original dvd and vhs release of the movie is the only uncut version of this film in the US. The good news is if you don't mind the minor edits the upgrade to blu ray is well worth it over the standard dvd. The picture quality is clean and sharp and looks like the movie was filmed recently for an older movie of the 90's. The sound and audio is also a big plus for the upgrade. The soundtrack to the movie was done by Jerry Goldsmith and sounds excellent on a good surround sound system. Wish movie studios would leave these older films alone the way they are instead of years later after the movie was released in theaters and dvd to censor the movie which is the reason why I knocked off 2 stars. Hope this helps with making an Executive Decision whether to purchase this movie or hold out and see if Warner Bros decides to release an uncut version of this film. Just wanted everyone to be informed for there are not many reviews out there on the US blu ray version of the movie yet.

I hope there's a good movie on this flight

This film was made with the full cooperation of the Pentagon and TheDepartment of Defence, so of course it's about dark skinned warriors ofIslam who kill senselessly, hijack air-planes and plot to poison theentire east coast of America. It's thus up to our cast of noble white guys (okay, multiracialAmericans) to band together and stop these cartoon villains, utilisinga variety of high-tech gizmos, "Mission Impossible" styled gadgets andgood ole American brawn. In other words, it's the kind of racist Cowboys vs Indians stuff JohnFord made decades ago, only here it takes place in the bowels of a 747.Maybe in a couple decades, this sort of stuff will be spoken of withthe same kind of embarrassment that films like "Drums Along The Mohawk"and "The Green Berets" manage to illicit today. Or maybe not.7.5/10 – "Die Hard" with added altitude, this film works best as aclaustrophobic techno-thriller. What's strange is that all these filmsportray Islamic terrorists as barbaric lunatics who, because they arehell bent on sacrificing their lives, must be "completely out of theirfrickin' minds!". Didn't everyone cheer when Randy Quaid sacrificed hislife in "Independece Day" by ramming his fighter jet into an alienmother ship, thereby saving his country? Perhaps the ultimate irony isthat on September the 11th, the air-force, because it was completelyunprepared, scrambled jets into the air which carried no weapons. Theirjob, if more hijacked kamikaze airliners were discovered, would havebeen to themselves fly suicidally headlong into the hijacked aircraft.Kamikaze vs kamikaze, who's insane and who's heroic in such a scenario? Worth one viewing.

No problem with movie, just DVD

Hi, The movie is great, the DVD sucks! I don't have a lot of DVDs but I got this one home tonight and it looks like $h#t! From the opening credits, the text is jumpy, you see small blocks besides the lettering...is very awful. It almost looks like a VHS tape was used in the making of this DVD it's so bad. I cannot believe Warner Brothers would release such a pathetic copy of a great movie. One very disappointed customer! -Rick

surprising great!

never thought i would like this movie this much... but the story is very exciting and makes u wanna follow every minute of it... from what i think, john leguizamo is the most outstanding actor, wow... he did just great!!!

Dragan Antulov (2012-05-16 22:11)

Russell plays this role very well, relying more on his intellectual image than muscles in the same manner as his character who uses more brain and less physical power to achieve his task.

Life Imitates Art?

This 1996 film is about a terrorist hijacking of a jumbo jet to get a jailed terrorist freed. They succeed in this release, but then decide to drop a nerve gas bomb over Washington DC to kill millions. "Its only a movie." But I wonder if this movie put ideas into the minds of Al-Qaeda? The hijacking of the jumbo jets on September 11, 2001 follows the ideas of this script. Except they used the jumbo jet itself as the bomb.In 1987, after a problem with a flight attendant, all guns were banned from flight personnel. This enabled terrorists to easily hijack a jumbo jet. This would never happen on the many foreign airlines where their pilots are armed! I hope this mistake will be corrected soon.

Cheese-18 (2012-05-15 08:49)

Not that good, not really bad

Let me put it this way: a movie that kills off Steven Seagal in the first 20minutes can't be THAT bad. For this Executive Decision will always have aspecial place in my heart. And then of course there is Kurt Russell to lift the whole thing up. All inall Executive Decision is fun to watch - if you switch off your brain fortwo hours...
