We have taken some photos of "Friends with Benefits".
They represent actual movie quality.
I thought that they were both miscast for this particular movie. I didn't feel any real chemistry between them which is really important for a movie like this. The movie was a little longer than I expected it to be and there was a lot more nudity/profanity/swearing then was really necessary for the movie, too. The story switches back and forth between NY and LA, and I really liked the fact that the showed the true differences between the cities, atmospheres, people, culture, etc.Other than that, it was good for a cute, Friday night flick. It would be kinda cool for actual FWB to watch this movie because it's not one for parents and their adult children to watch together.
Non-stop talking! From the moment they meet and even when they are having sex, they never stop talking! I mean, seriuosly? Can't they shut up even for a few seconds?!?? Jeezz..!! This movie is not funny or even sexy, and the 2 main characters are really annoying! Ugh!Don't waste your time with this movie. I'm sorry I did!
While the movie is aware of the clichés that are thrown into the mixwhen making (or watching) a romantic comedy and they also play withthem at the beginning (with a kind of harsh comment concerning a MissHeigl), it does fall back on the same "mistakes" it criticizes. Andwhile it does so with a wink (and a great "number" towards the end, which in itself is a great payoff), it does feel a bit like a cheat. The movie should have stuck to its guns. But with Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake it has a great cast, thatalmost make you forget about those little mishaps. Even a sub-storywith Richard Jenkins though, feels a bit forced. There are quite a fewfunny moments and there is no doubt where this will lead, but it couldhave been a real good stab at romantic comedies. As it is, it's justanother one of them ...
Just got back from seeing this movie and loved it! Chemistry is great between JT and Mila and lots of laughs!!
This review is from: Friends with Benefits (DVD) I really enjoyed this. I think Timberlake is so funny and good in this film. Mia was great too, they absolutely compliment each other. Woody Harrelson was funny, he played the role perfectly, as he always does. Thanks
This review is from: Friends With Benefits (Amazon Instant Video) This is a light-hearted, cute movie. My wife and I were looking for something to kill time on a boring weeknight, and this did the job.
Due to the overwhelming number of "blah" reviews, purely to balance theuniverse I felt compelled to review this.I just watched this movie twice in a row. I watched it early today andwatched it again when my wife came home. Nearly as funny the secondtime. Laughed out loud a bunch of times. The dialogue is very fast and full of tiny jokes that a lot of peoplewould easily miss, and further a handful of jokes are repeatedthroughout the movie. "Hollywood sign...LA's only real landmark."Minutes later, news caster covering the event makes the sameobservation. (However, most people will laugh at the joke just beforethis one and miss the newscaster repeating it) Dumb people are too slowto follow the dialogue, so they'll get mad and call it boring.I gave this a bunch of stars not because it's a perfect movie in everyway. It's not incredibly deep. It doesn't deal with world war IIvictims or some serious mind bending bull crap, but it ridiculouslyexcels at what it does.Just because something has clichés isn't bad. There is nothing newunder the sun folks. All you negatives out there that are so hard toplease and so overly stimulated you're bored to death - just slit yourwrists already.ps. A review is not a synopsis, you would-be reviewers!
Well, if they ever decide to give an Oscar for a comedy, they shoulduse this film as a guide. Kunis and Timberkale are amazing - who wouldever have thought!Of course, they could not have been as successful without such awonderful script.Always cute, sometimes laugh-out-load hysterical.Patricia Clarkson will take those old enough back to the 60s/70s andWoody Harrelson is outrageously fantastic as a gay sports editor - atour de force for him!Perhaps a bit slow once or twice (but not for long) and maybe a bit offscript in one scene; but, altogether - a fantastic movie.OK, OK, I know it's a rom-com guys; but, you will really get the humor.See this one with a friend!!!What? You're still reading - get up and go see this movie! Enjoy alaugh or two...
I just saw a preview in London with the very nice Will Gluck coming onstage afterwards to talk about the film. Romcoms really aren't my cup of tea, and I'm especially wary of thesub-genre that claim to subvert the genre's clichés. 500 Days of Summerreally annoyed me in its grandiose claims to be a new kind of rom-comwhere the guy doesn't end up with the girl. It turned out to be just aspredictable as the rest. And you know what? People want to see the guyget the girl...it's what they're paying their hard earned money for. It's to Will Gluck and the other writers' credit that they get that.Instead of subverting the clichés and alienating their audience, theyPLAY with them instead. The main characters sit in front of the TVwatching a rom-com (itself a really funny film within a film) andskewer all of the plot points and character tics that you get in studiocomedies. The fact that they go on to mouth the same clichés in theirown lives is deliberate and well-managed. It's called having your cakeand eating it and, by and large, they get away with it. As with all rom-coms it's made or broken by the leads. JustinTimberlake and Mila Kunis are good actors, sure, but crucially they'reLikable. You want to see them happy at the end, and you don't reallycare so much about how they get there. The first hour is really fun. Lots of jokes about LA vs NYC; thecringe-worthy way people break-up with people; your first day in a newjob, that kind of thing. The last half-hour falls a bit flat, and there are a couple of poorlyjudged moments where Justin starts stammering and acting like an 8yr-old wuss. But I can't remember the last time a comedy of anydescription held its nerve and its tone for the full 90 minutes so Iwon't judge this one too harshly. Basically, go see it. You'll be pleasantly surprised rather thandisappointed. Justin Timberlake's acting is going from strength tostrength and he and Mila make a fun couple. It's an interesting take onthe 'this isn't really a rom-com, you know' sub-genre and the best oneI've seen in a while.
This review is from: Friends With Benefits (Amazon Instant Video) Bad acting through the whole movie, boring, not worth $3.99 rental fee. Justin Timberlake is not a good actor in this movie.
it's not that strong film but it's so funny to watch it acting verygood cast good also i like them both of them but may be there's a verygood story then this film but in the end or the summary it's nice watchit .....the boy so sexy and the girl too i like her and her body :Pit's a sex movie i think because of that 18+but like i said it's cool film and very nice and i like itnice watch too you all :* a h m a dnice to see you and i don't know what i can say else they want 10 linesto write on this review thank you to see my review and nice watch onemore time
OK, what you see from the beginning to end is a display of Sonyproducts.A deliberate and a ridiculous scene is placed just so that thecharacters could be seen playing the Sony playstation. The couple watch a show on a.......Sony TV.If they use a laptop it would be a VAIO .And of course, the background music is composed of artists that comefrom the Sony records label. The film ? Well the guys were so focused as to how the place the Sonyproducts that they turned the movie into a total crap.It is NOT a romantic comedy. It does not have any class. The charactersdebit dialogs straight from the gutter.I used to have a high esteem of the Sony Group. This movie produced inme the opposite effect. I would buy any label except this.
I wouldn't give a rating of 8 over 10 to this movie like almosteverybody else, but I see some prejudices in some cruel comments, andon the contrary I believe it worths to watch. Some people just gave 2-3points as if those films, in which we see some visuals, are perfect insense. There are a lot worse movies than this one, and if you thinkthis movie deserves 3 over 10, then, Hollywood must stop the 90 % oftheir films.Justin's other recent movie, "In time", has got 6.8/10, and hasn'tnobody else seen the toy car crushing scene and the rest of the crap inthat movie? So how the hell is this "Friends with Benefits" worse thanthat movie?
This review is from: Friends With Benefits (Amazon Instant Video) Is there anything in the entertainment biz that Justin Timberlake can't do? Any hot actresses he hasn't dated? Though not a musician Mila Kunis might well be his match on the distaff side, having established her ability to handle drama and comedy. The two stars elevate this standard issue romcom with their chemistry, assisted by a strong supporting cast including Patricia Clarkson, Jenna Elfman, Richard Jenkins, Woody Harrelson and Andy Samberg. Worth watching, worth renting. But Amazon, why do I get letterbox on an HD computer monitor when I'm paying the full rental price of $3.99 for the downloadable movie?
This has been a magical summer for movies. A lot of movies that I wasreally looking forward to, have turned out to be lousy. However, I'veseen a lot of movies that I expected to be awful, but ended up beingreally good. Thus, "Friends With Benefits". Romantic comedies arealways awful for me. I love them, but they make me feel like crap. Thereason why this is, is because most of them are dishonest, and make youfeel like only in the movies, things work out in love. "Friends WithBenefits" is refreshingly honest, kind of sad, yet hopelesslyoptimistic. Its dialogue is fast and quick, kind of "Juno"-esque. Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake are both coming off Oscar roles.Justin Timberlake was surprisingly good in "The Social Network", as wasKunis in "Black Swan". Maybe it was a fluke that both of them were sogood in those movies, but this is the kind of movie they belong in.Their characters, Dylan and Jamie, have personalities, andcharacteristics that mesh with each other in a really awesome way, which doesn't come very often in romantic comedies. The story, as for most romantic comedies, isn't surprising at all. It'stwo people who are coming out of bad relationships, who meet in aclassic cute romantic comedy way, and decide that relationships don'twork out, and to remain "friends with benefits", or friends who(constantly) have sex. As you could imagine, this doesn't work out theway they had hoped. There was a similar movie released this January, with Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher called "No Strings Attached",which, clearly will be referenced in most, if not all reviews for"Friends With Benefits". I, admittedly, didn't hate that movie. Butit's a piece of dreck compared to this one. It's a typical hour-and-forty-five minute romantic comedy. However,it's kind of this generation's "When Harry Met Sally". It's "When DylanMet Jamie". The two leads are so great with each other, one the yin tothe other's yang. You can tell that they would be conceivable as a realcouple. They aren't the perfect, immediately compatible couple thatusually headlines a movie such as this. Justin Timberlake keeps provingthat he's a better actor than a lot of pop stars. He's insanely likablein this movie. Mila Kunis had a smaller, haunting kind of role in"Black Swan", where I thought she was above average. She's reallyallowed to shine in this one, bringing life to a character that couldhave been much less. The attitude of this movie is sometimes gritty, always quick, witty, and urban. It makes good use of the time it'sgiven. It acknowledges the ridiculous romantic comedies that it couldhave been. Jamie and her friend, at one point, walk by a poster forKatherine Heigl's "The Ugly Truth", and says "Shut up, Katherine Heigl! You stupid liar!". A fake in-movie-movie, with Rashida Jones and JasonSegel, is meant to emphasize how ridiculous most romantic comedies are.Great stuff.Another thing this one has that "No Strings Attached" didn't have is agreat supporting cast. Patricia Clarkson plays Jamie's mother, a hippielush who is really damn funny. Woody Harrelson also does a good job asDylan's unapologetically bold and hilarious gay boss. He gets kudos fornot making a gay character a stereotype. Richard Jenkins plays Dylan'sAlzheimer's stricken father, and Jenna Elfman plays his sister. Theyadd to the quick and zippy feel of the movie. Cameos by Emma Stone andAndy Samberg are always welcome, too. While some probably won't like this one as much as I did, I liked allof its characters. I felt like each character was well-developed andinteresting. The quick writing is what makes it better than a lot ofsimilar movies, but when everything in it is mashed together, the wholepackage is very good. I look forward to watching it again.Grade: A-
If you are into a cute plot with great actors, in a romantic comedy, then this movie is for YOU! Such an awesome movie!!! Loved mila kunis in here, and jt is sooo cute!
Hollywood movies often come in pairs as films with the same premise arereleased within months of one another. "Friends With Benefits" and "NoStrings Attached" were released very close to one another and both posethe question of whether it is possible for a couple simply to have sexand be friends without becoming emotionally or even romanticallyinvolved. Many men have never had any problem with this concept andHollywood is now toying with the issue of whether liberated women canthink the same. There are no prizes for guessing the conclusion of bothromantic comedies but it's entertaining to see how each film worksround to essentially the same ending. This time round the guy is Dylan (Justin Timberlake) who moves from LosAngeles to New York to take on a new job at the behest of headhunterJamie (Mila Kunis). Like "No Strings Attached", "Friends With Benefits"has a lot of talk about sex - the script is sharp and often funny - butremarkably coy when it comes to showing it with nothing more risquéthan a bare back. The film makes fun of movies that are overly romanticwhile coming quite close to being one of the works it parodies. Soinnocent fun which finishes up being rather old-fashioned. The Frenchwould have done it differently.
I really enjoyed the movie. It was really good and really funny! You can tell that Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake had a lot of chemistry. They were really funny together. All of the actors were really funny! There were no boring parts in the movie. It was entertaining the whole way through. I suggest that you go see this movie!
If I had the ability to time travel (and who's to say I don't, becauseI'd never tell you if I did) and felt inclined to show a movie to thecitizens of the '20s or '30s that would fully capture for them life inthe 21st Century because I wouldn't be able to take them there myself,I think I'd choose "Friends with Benefits." For one, it's predictableromance  that much hasn't changed in 80-90 years. For another, thepresence of technology is rampant, which would awe them while alsoproving another thing that hasn't changed in 80-90 years: productplacement. In all sincerity, however, Will Gluck ("Easy A") has craftedyet another comedy that's savvy to its audience, and though thecontemporary attitudes, humor and references come heavy-handed attimes, he captures our sensibilities and can identify the talent thatcan make that writing work. The only thing the screenplay doesn't write its way around is theformula to which the film's premise inextricably links itself. As funnyand even touching as the writing can get, it can't outrun thepredictability factor of two friends who try having a relationshipbuilt on emotionless sex. Dylan (Justin Timberlake) moves out to NewYork City from Los Angeles thanks to Jamie (Mila Kunis), a head hunterwho sets him up at GQ. Knowing nobody in the Big Apple, Dylan spends alot of time with Jamie and they connect over bad past relationships andsome healthy sarcasm. Each plagued by their own issues, they determinethey could try sex without feelings.Yup, we know how this story goes; we even had a refresher course inJanuary with "No Strings Attached," a botched exercise to say theleast. What that film lacked were (outside of Natalie Portman) thetalents that "Benefits" has to sell us this recycled story as if brandnew. It's a tough sell, so any measure of success should be hailed avictory. For starters, Kunis and Timberlake are funny people Âsincerely funny people. Undoubtedly improvisation was involved, butthey understand the material and they make it natural and honest (aswell as hilarious often times). Maybe more importantly, the supportingcharacters defy the norm of best friends and roommates. There's WoodyHarrelson as a charismatic stereotype-breaking gay colleague of Dylan'sat GQ, Patricia Clarkson as the free-wheeling and somewhat unmotherlymother to Jamie and other that pop up along the way. Certainly theyonly exist to provide the key advice necessary in these types ofrom-coms, but their characters serve that purpose in fresher ways.Although he didn't write "Easy A," Gluck helped pen this film usingsimilar techniques to try and subvert the rampant clichés. Much in theway that "Easy A" (which gets a shout out in the airport scene at thebeginning if you watch closely) mixed modern humor with homage to teencomedies of the John Hughes variety, "Friends with Benefits" bothhonors romantic comedies and calls them out on their crap. Jamie is ahopeless romantic who despises the movies for warping her views on loveand as she and Dylan drink beer and broach the subject of sex for thefirst time, they're even watching a rom-com, albeit a made-up one"starring" Jason Segel and Rashida Jones. The extra pinch of satiresoftens the fact that we all know even this film will descend intosimilar mushiness because that's what these movies do. The fact that westill embrace this obvious outcome speaks volumes to how well "Friendswith Benefits" avoids being the awfulness its premise suggests.Occasionally the film struggles to balance its excessive contemporaryhumor with moments of actual sincerity and a few characters andsubplots (such as Dylan's family with his troubled father played byRichard Jenkins and his sister played by Jenna Elfman) though welldone, feel out of place or unnecessary. Otherwise, the jokes hit andthe sentimentality takes root as needed. Although I could've laughedhalf as much as I did at some of the jokes, the cast proves to make thedifference in feeling the sting of some of the mediocre humor versusletting it slide.~Steven C Visit my site at http://moviemusereviews.com
My friend was urging me to watch this movie mainly because it's meant to be funny, sexy and oh well having Mila Kunis in the female leading role should be a more than enough reason to watch this movie anyway. The movie kicked off really good and interesting until Justin Timberlake's Character and Mila Kunis's Character became friends with benefits then it became another cliche Rom/Com. Honestly! It's almost like Hollywood has ran out of ideas when it comes to making Romantic Comedies or Chick Flicks. It's always the same exact formula. Boy meets Girl, Boy hates/dislikes Girl, Girl hates/dislikes Boy, Boy + Girl get to spend some unwanted quality time together. Boy + Girl hook up/date whatever. Boy + Girl fight/quarrel. Boy + Girl end the relationship and then in the last 10 minutes of the movie one or the other realizes they just can't do without that person, runs back to them, declare their undying love, apologizes for being a total jerk etc.... The other forgives them and then....Booom They live happily ever after. The End !How many times, do we need to see the same story but with different actors/leading roles ? If Hollywood can't come up with an original plot to make Romantic Comedies then it's quite simple stop making and recycling the same story line over and over again ! It just gets quite tedious. I'm so glad I rented this film instead of wasting money watching it at the theatre. I give it two stars for the first 15 minutes of it and for Mila Kunis cause she's sexy other than that...Skip this movie entirely unless you like recycled Romantic Comedies.
