A visit from his only living relative reveals the truth. Nick has inherited the ability to see supernatural creatures, and as a Grimm, he is tasked with keeping the balance between mankind and the mythological. A reformed Big Bad Wolf becomes his greatest (and also reluctant) ally and confidant. Its not long before his work as a policeman leads Nick to the criminals he once thought were only found in fairy tales.

Plesantly surprising, and engaging show!

This show has appeal and intrigue, which is why I really like it. Inmany ways, it is believable, or makes a solid attempt to be (althoughelements of fantasy might not be a match for some peoples limitedreality). It awakens your imagination and pushes it a little further. It is exciting and the action is constant in its delivery, which keepsyour interest. You don't always know what to expect, while at othertimes, you may try to solve the mystery and prove yourself right, orwrong. The characters are engaging and likable, for the most part. There aresome that are waiting in the wings to make their "big move", but youkind of assume that…and wait for it. You may not be certain as to their"true" role in the grand scheme of things. While some "horror" elements exist, they are limited, appropriatelyconcealed for network TV, and easily digested. This does not, in myopinion, take away from the x-factor that this show delivers. The showmakes you feel as though you are a part of it, and allows you to putyourself in one of the roles, if you dare to imagine. In the beginning, I thought that it was a blend of CSI and Buffy theVampire Slayer. However, after watching all the episodes, it has madeits own unique mark. Therefore, the GRIMM has a "thumbs up" from me.Keep it going, or at least find a good adoptive station to carry itsflag.

Great show with a well written characters and story.

Grimm is one of a few shows with realistic characters who are neitherperfectly benevolent nor malicious. The lead character is a detectivewho is sent on a mission by his dying aunt to rid Portland, Oregon ofevil people who are actually not completely human. The protagonist isnot perfect as he frequently looks out for many of his own needs takingadvantage of other people in the process. He is mostly good, but notperfect which is exactly what the show needs. Furthermore, I enjoy roleof the protagonist's girlfriend. She is aware he has a secret and shewants to help, but he knows telling her about who he is will place herlife in danger. The protagonist has an official and unofficial partnerwhich is a great twist in the show because it divides the show into twohalves. Part of the show is dedicated to solving the official crime andthe other part of the show is dedicated to catching the evil partialpeople. The unofficial partner is possibly the best character in theshow because he believes he should assist the protagonist to make upfor his troubled past. The reason I am not giving this show a 10 isbecause I am getting tired of the show taking place entirely inPortland, Oregon. How does the protagonist find so many of thesepartial human creatures, which are supposed to be fairly rare, just inthe city of Portland alone? It is starting to get a little silly whenthe "rare" creatures account for about 1/10 of the population. However, this is the only major flaw of the show and it is easy to overlook. Ina scale of 1-10 in which 1 is the worst, 10 is the best and 5 isaverage. This show is a 9/10 Great and highly recommended.

Gets Better and Better

The more I watch the more I enjoy. This is a fun series that hasnothing specifically great about it, and yet for some reason I like itmore each time I watch a new episode. Anyone who likes a twist offantasy will appreciate this show. Great acting, fun sub-text...whatmore can we ask for? The characters are all well cast, and the stories, while simple, are all quite entertaining. Worth a watch if you'relooking for something new. 9 out of 10 for me, based on the order inwhich I choose to watch shows (only watch TV online) - This show takesprecedence for me, behind only psych (my fav) modern family, themiddle, big bang, eureka, and how i met your mother. Seeing as how mostof those are 30 min sitcoms Grimm has climbed it's way into my top 3 or4, hour long shows worth watching (42 mins - damn commercials, how doyou people watch TV?)

A Great Show In A Time Of Great Shows

I'm glad that the networks are finally competing for an audience again.A lot of TV series keep rehashing the same old stories and people areturning away to Cable TV for original shows.I think "Grimm" is NBC's way of saying, "Hey there now, we're notgiving up." Love the show, love the stories, was waiting for the nextepisode during Thanksgiving Weekend and now I'm waiting the week afterand I have yet to see the next episode. I don't know why NBC is tryingto kill this show by making its audience go somewhere else forentertainment.Either way, the show is great, the stories are hella weird and thisshow is out there, along with American Horror Stories, the only twoshows I'm currently watching on TV.

Grimm

This is a GREAT show!...Cleverly written and the actors are wonderful! Our Family LOVES this show! The way the writers mix the Grimm's Fairytales into present day plots are very interesting. SeeingPortland,Oregon in all it's beauty and lushness is quite breathtaking. We especially liked the refrigerator repair man on "Danse Macabre". Ofcourse Monroe is always fun. Kate Burton was a wonderful surprise onthe pilot episode. David Giuntoli and Danny Bruno are AWESOME!!!!!!!The special effects are amazing. We like the autopsy scenes too eventhough pretty gruesome! It's way cool! I hope that NBC does the smartthing and keeps this one going... It's certainly a HIT in our house.Sincerely, Nancy Di Leo and Family.

Grimm I Love it!

OMG I LOVE this show it is so much fun to watch nothing boring aboutit. It makes you think ahead I'm debating over in my mind about hisgirlfriend I think she has a few secrets too! I love his friend andthink he is pretty funny. There is so much to this show and so muchthey can do with the story line. It's a blast to watch. Just like theMedium was. I miss that show a lot. Grimm is just pure fun andinteresting to watch. Give it a shot you won't be sorry. I find itmight be a little scary for some kids under age 9 they might not getwhat is going on.They will probably be scared of people changing intomonsters and not get why. Parents need to know what their child canhandle watching as this show could cause some kids bad dreams. Thenthere are some kids that nothing scare them so I'm just F.Y.I.ingparents out there. Grimm is a fun show but not for all kids to watch.

Stylish balance of humor, horror, and imagination

***Possible very minor spoilers herein***Six episodes in now, Grimm seems to have really found its stride. Itwas a little awkward now and then in the first couple of episodes onlywhile it was busy establishing the premise, but the writing is solid, the recurring characters are enjoyable in their own right, and the maintheme--a born "monster-hunter" hearing his calling in a world recentlyrevealed to be full of said monsters--has deftly avoided the obviousand played Good™ v. Evil™ model and instead been imagined as a muchmore organic and nuanced ecosystem in which the conflicts are notalways as they first seem and the Grimm himself is arguably in the samecategory as the supernatural species he so often pursues for theircrimes. Nick is introduced as a police officer who has learned that he's amongthe last of a long line of Grimms, and the imminent death of hisnearest relative has caused his Grimmyness to manifest mainly as theability to recognize the not-quite-humans around him--but only whenthey lose their cool for a moment and display their supernaturalstreaks, something ordinary humans can't see. (Creepily, some of themseem to never lose control, so Nick doesn't always know what he'sdealing with.) This and the ancestral knowledge conveyed to him(centuries of family research, a collection of specialized weaponry, and insider help from a reformed Blutbad) seem to be the sum of Nick'sGrimm-gifts, although perhaps a natural combat instinct and desire forjustice also form part of the genetic package. He's a natural cop and atough customer, but he's also not invincible, which I appreciate.Despite the extensive documentation and conventional knowledge aboutthe various supernatural creatures in this ecology, we realize there'sstill plenty to learn and, even better, that choice has a much biggerpart to play than it might if worse writers were on the case. Thepremise lends itself to analogies of dealing with the hand we're dealtand either struggling to make the best of ourselves without losing whowe are or indulging ourselves in the worst of our natures. We also havethemes of how to survive and even thrive in a world we might not beperfectly suited for but on which we depend, if we are to enjoy thebenefits of civilization. Suffice to say each episode might make youthink, although it goes down like candy, not broccoli. The Pacific NW location is well-chosen and beautifully shot and set up,with joy in the use of color and occasional winks to fairy tale imagerywithout being picturesque. It's easy enough to follow but they don'tspell everything out in big grade-school letters, so there's thestimulation of piecing some things together for yourself. Each episodeincorporates thoughtful homages to the stories of old but inventssomething new and interesting in each one, with many great Eek! momentsincluded and reasonable though not excessive amounts of blood and gore. The fantasy is grounded on an underpinning of plausible weekly crimeprocedurals. And it's sophisticated and often sexy without being anexcuse for soft porn. Nothing seems gratuitous. All, so far, has beenin excellent balance. Skillful casting--the acting has been uniformly good and the choicesfor both recurring and guest roles have been pleasing. The guest actorsare well-used and often include some of my favorites (Patrick Fischler,Tim Bagley). Although Nick's character could be drawn a little morethoroughly, he works well as a sort of glass through which we see hisworld and we feel like we're discovering it along with him. Nick andhis partner Hank have good cop chemistry, and the plots seem to workeven though Hank is not yet in on the secret. Monroe (although createdperhaps for convenience's sake) has been the most fun of all. Nick'sfiancé Juliette is not quite fleshed out yet but I suspect the writershave special plans for her as the story continues to unfold at itspleasingly natural pace. The dialogue is smooth and funny without beingtoo 'clever' or overly defusing the darker goings-on. If you liked the X-Files, you might enjoy Grimm. It's worth checkingout, and I hope they let it continue on the path it has found and notturn it into something suitable for being made into a video game.

Will this fairy tale have a happy ending?

After viewing the pilot of this show, I think it has a lot ofpotential. Yes it follows the tried and true formula of expose modernindividual to some sort of secret war/history/duty/etc, but there is alot they can do with it from there. It did its job as a pilot:introduce characters, introduce conflict, and give you the general ideahow the episodes will go. I think it is about time we had a new showthat runs the good old man vs. monster bit, especially one that isn'tprone to becoming some touchy-feely WB-esque teen drama. While its tooearly to judge the show as a whole, it promises good things. I hope itdelivers.

NBC's Tacky Dylan Dog Ripoff

There was a certain amount of hype that got me a bit excited for thisshow, but the first episode offered me nothing. The acting and writingwere stale. I was forced to bear witness to a pilot that I would beembarrassed to have written. The real kicker was when the detectivesproceeded to shoot and kill the suspect with no evidence besides thefact that he was humming that Eurythmics song which was apparently theonly song the murder victim had on her iPod. Right, yeah, totallybelievable. They're jumping the shark before they even get past theirpilot! The comic relief Big Bad Wolf character was the only redeemablefactor, and even then, one must hope for the show to be canceled so hecan move on to bigger and better things. For those of you looking toget your fairy tale fix, I know that I'm moving on to Once Upon a Time, which looks far more promising.

Silly and Boring X-Files / Twilight Ripoff

This is a mostly boring and exceedingly silly cop/monster show thatplays like sort of X-Files/Twilight ripoff. David Guintoli does ahalf-decent job playing a one dimensional Tom Cruise look-a-like cop, while Russell Hornsby, playing another cop, fails to conceal hisdisgust and boredom at having to play a character with no discerniblepersonality. Bitsie Tulloch plays the thankless role of the Tom Cruisecop's pain-in-the-ass live-in fiancé, another character with nopersonality...also with no purpose in the show. Amongst these threecharacters there no chemistry, and the scenes with Russell and Bitsieare usually painful.Silas W. Mitchell plays Monroe, a vegan werewolf, and he is the singlebright spot of the show...in fact, he carries the show. There's a lot of dark, misty lighting, lens flares, monster make up andbad CGI effects...also fast motion fighting, and some gore, but thestories are mostly vacuous attempts to create atmosphere with little tono substance. I have watched a number of episodes because my wife and Ilive in Portland and she likes to see if she can recognize any of theshooting locations...once, the dog-wash where we take our LabradorRetriever was used as a location. This show might have worked if it had been done as a spoof. Bad as itis, I guess it's still better than reality TV or one of those damnamateur music performer shows hosted by faded pop stars. But watching arerun of 'Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea' on Hulu is preferable toGrimm, so consider yourself warned.

Love this show!

So far, so good! With the pilot episode, I was pretty much instantlyhooked. It was one of the best pilots for a show that I've seen in awhile. It truly gave you an in-depth look at what the show will beabout and so far, it's quite entertaining. As the episode progressed,it had me wanting more and more. If it keeps this up, It'll be trulysad if it's ever taken off the air. Love the characters and greatchoice of main characters, the acting is good, love the set and theoverall plot is very different which makes it well worth the watch.Need I say more? If you're reading this, you should try to give it awatch. I can't wait for more!

Not really ... there

The first disappointment was the cops, played by David Giuntoli andRussell Hornsby. City dwellers, not really tough enough or scary, morefluffy than capable to take on the other species who inhabit earth. TheGrimm's touch is interesting, but the story fail before starting. Ourhero has no training, despite his origins and have been left indarkness about his heritage because ... No idea, but the rest of thefirst episode is full of overused cliché. He survive all the attacks, befriend a 'big bad wolf', probably werewolf, who help him in findinganother bad wolf, really bad this time, his boss try to kill him, partof a larger conspiracy who is going develop later, etc. I expectednothing because i didn't read anything before watching, but I'm afraidthis show will go nowhere. Hollywood have a chronically lack of heroesor at least actors capable to portray heroes. If you are going to makean action show, pick a leading star who is, hint, believable. His aunt, bald and cripple, inspire fear. David Giuntoli is flat and incapable totransmit emotions.

Good, but Fatal Flaw in the Plot

Would have gotten an 8 or 9 out of 10 if there wasn't a FATAL FLAW INTHE PLOT: How's Capt Renard, Grimm's Boss, one of the bad Mythological Creatures? It's too close of a relationship to Grimm (Nick Burckhardt). You can't focus on the Mythological Creatures because of a nowconvoluted story line. There's more than enough material with Grimm, the Creatures, Griffin and Monroe. Adding Renard as an additionalantagonist makes it too easy. Same flaw with 'No Ordinary Family' andthe character of Dr. Dayton King...too close...conflict from too manydirections.Less is more.

Grimms who'da-thunk it

I only thought Grimm was the name of brothers who gathered fairytalestories in Europe. Did not know they were progenitors of a line ofdetectives/hunters/monster killers. Saw the Grimm pilot this a.m. onDVR, from last night's show. Scary. I can't even watch/read anythingStephen King, and yet Grimm held my interest, even through to the end.Normally I cannot watch such gory things. I knew ahead of time thatGrimm would not be all cutesy and happily ever after. Reformed big badwolf funny, especially the part of urinating on his back fence in orderto mark his territory. He said funny things, and I think he may stealthe spotlight from the main character who is so serious. Did not knowKate Burton was in this. She needs better billing. I remember her as achild; a picture of when she was about eight years old. Now I realizeshe is way older than her nephew in the show. She did great at fightingthe monster in the pilot. She was also great as a hospital patient, hooked up to machines and having facial injuries and tubing in hermouth. Richard Burton would be proud. The mailman/2nd big bad wolf wasgoofy as all heck. His huge pointed nose prosthesis made me think hewould soon break into the cartoonish big bad wolf facial persona, butlater out in the yard he did indeed break into the sort of werewolffacial look. What would Michael Landon say about that?I watched the pilot this week of Once Upon A Time, and felt that Grimmmay be sort of covering similar territories. I have instructed my DVRto record both series.10/10

Not Your Momma's Fairy Tale

I was skeptical when I heard of a cop procedural meets fairy tale show. We've already got something pretty close to that (or we used to) withSupernatural. But while in the folktales course I took this year, my TAsuggested it and gave it good reviews so I figured why not. And I'm soglad I did. This show gives a refreshing spin to the stories we all grew up hearingfrom our parents and grandparents. For once, they weren't being spoonfed to us as these colorful tales that always had a nice, neat happilyever after. They're dark and menacing and a bit terrifying just as theywere intended to be when the Grimm brothers wrote them down in thefirst collections. The portrayals of the "monsters" is a great blendbetween scary and amusing that brings back the nostalgic Buffy fan inme (which makes sense seeing as David Greenwalt helped create this). There are some rough spots and the characters need some moredevelopment (more Monroe, please!) but that's nothing a bit of timecan't remedy. A lot of shows are a little shaky during those first fewepisodes and start to get their stability once they've found theirvoice. Seeing as we're only six episodes in, I think things are goingpretty well. As for all the negative feedback from various sources saying it isn'tas good as Once Upon A Time, the two are completely different entities.Despite the fairy tale connection, they barely have anything in common.Once Upon A Time is to Grimm the way that Disney is to Horror films. They aren't even in the same drama. Not that there's anything wrongwith Once Upon A Time but to constantly compare the two and debatewhich is better is a waste of energy and time. Hopefully, Grimm canpick up a bit more favor or reviews with a little less bias in favor ofOUAT. Either way, we've got till May to see if these fairy tales havehappy endings for all.

Great show

I really don't understand the 7.5??? Why is it bad? This show isgutsy.....not many shows deal with, or show the kind of things thisshow does...I watched it in Sweden,(where I live...yeahhhh)all fourepisodes, and didn't realize until the 2nd episode that it was run onNBC.I really thought it was a cable produced show.......not only doesit deliver sweet looking co-ed dismemberment after attacking werewolfbasically eats her to death, but also shows pedophiliac monsters, actionand arm ripping jokes....I mean yeah, sure, somethings are off.....this city is crawling with blödbaden seemingly running wild, yet everysingle case is assigned to the same detective(are there any moredetectives?and why is that specific Chinese cop always fetching whatthey need?I'm guessing they're his superior but he dresses like therest of the cops.....,and the model looking vet girlfriend who makes mewonder if the next episode is the one where she dumps him.....otherthan that........ It's funny, scary, creepy, interesting, and not verypolitically correct, which is great....I don't know maybe I'mexaggerating ,but I can't wait to see what new Blödbaden they come upwith...cool show...even more so after a smoke....

The show is good, but needs a little work

Sorry NBC but you can't really keep up with other great shows. I watchmany many shows and I watch them all for different reasons. I lovvvedSupernatural but it went all demons and Angels and Bibles, and we don'twant Grimm turning out that way. Grimm is a good show. It is a twist on Fairy tales where a detective, little hottie, has to solve crimes that are related to some fairytales/fables. I like where the show is going because it shows thegruesome side of fairy tales, the deaths, and not the happily everafters, and its quite modern with the "black market" the "betting ongames" among others. BUTTTTT, the acting is quite off sometimes. In one of the episodes Hankis talking out loud with Nick trying to figure out what 1+1 is and Nickstupidly acts like he figured out the answer like a baby couldn't putthese together. Quite ridiculous at times. Also, Nick doesn't tell hisgirlfriend, THAT HE LIVES WITH, anything. Really like she's not goingto ask you one question? It makes it very unrealistic and kind ofannoying.Like in the latest episode Nick calls and says "sorry i hope I'm not tolate." but he doesn't tell her "I had a big bust at work I'm sorry wewere swamped." It's really unrealistic in that aspect and its gettingannoying..Also, the main character is Nick. Nick NICK NICK! the show is aboutNICK, NICK is the Grimm. But we barely know anything about Nick. He's adetective, that lives with his awkward girlfriend and has a friendMonroe who he treats terribly and we know he can see monsters. THAT"SIT. How come we know more about Monroe than Nick? This show has somework to do. I watch every Friday, ONLY because I love fairy tales, butit really needs some help.

I like it but it's lacking something

David Greenwalt was one of the regular writers in the "Buffy" (and Ithink "Angel") series. Both of these series had character development, plots that were interesting and showed that something was afoot.Grimm starts out that way in the first episode, where the grandmotheris in hospital and effectively "hands over the reigns" to her grandson(the detective). A murder attempt is made in the hospital against herlife and then (I think it was in the second episode), a minor referenceis made to her being attacked and the identity of the person setting upthe kill. Then, there is nothing more mentioned about her attacker orthe role of the new "Grimm" for a number of episodes. Most of the episodes seems to be a stand-alone installment and moreoften than not, there's no linking of the episodes towards acliff-hanging series finale.I also find the police characters frustrating - both are both wooden inthe delivery of their lines and don't seem to engage the audience.Unless the series starts to get more taut and the writers start tothink along the lines of Buffy /Angel, I think this series will get theaxe sooner than later.

(2012-05-13 10:06)

Likable characters, fun story-lines, gets better all the time !!

Of the two "fairytale" shows that exist now, Grimm has the morebelievable characters, better plots and has immense room to develop andgrow.Starting out with a detective as the Grimm was a great way to add dramaand he and his girlfriend are really likable and interesting people (Iswear there is something magic about his girlfriend we don't know yet). The wolfen friend was a great start to delving into the Grimm world. Now the wolfman has a girlfriend in the potion business and she is anawesome addition. What has been most enjoyable is there is a continuousunfolding of a complex and magical world where there is drama, mysteryand surprise.I don't like much prime time TV but Grimm is an immensely creative andwell developing show. Its not Grimm its awesome ! My wife and I AREHOOKED. My only advice is to not limit yourselves to the brothers Grimm storiesbut feel free to add in new creatures and magic that his aunt had notyet found, like trolls. Tall and burly (not fat) men and women who liveaway from the cities who are much heavier than they look (they avoidstairs and elevators) who are immensely strong and hardy (likearmored), move casually, laugh hard, eat weird things and avoidinteraction with most people. Fingers and limbs are thick and oftenbearded (women too) Maybe we need a group of trolls to befriend ourerstwhile heroes and sometimes help in their endeavors.

soup2504 (2012-05-12 20:12)

I don't think so.....

I just do not see what is so great about this.... It has the done todeath cliché crime series storyline with very light and cheesy horrorelements peppered in. its storytelling is absolutely horrid, consistingof long conversations and long shots of something, to be interrupted bya guy explaining something and how this and that. The story doesn'tmake you think for yourself, it just baby feeds it to you. The acting?Erm.... No thanks.... The special effects? OK, this usually isn'tsomething I complain about, but, the Sy Fy channel has better CGI thanthis. The show is just a jumbled mess that has no clue what it wants tobe, and it suffers.
