Adam Sandler stars as the title character Happy Gilmore, who if you set himoff isn't happy at all. he's a short fused, hockey loving guy whose grandmais going to loose her house because of back taxes. Happy decides to get themoney to save the house and is pursuaded by a golf pro (Carl Weathers, whodisplays that he has a hollywood future outside of the Rocky series) to playgolf. but even more eye brows are raised when happy brings his hot temperedattitude with him!simply too funny to not see, "Happy Gilmore" provides plenty of laughs.SPOILERS the major down fall of the movie is when Happy wins the last golfmatch, because it's a bit too ridiculous. but hey, in comedy movies, stufflike that tends to happen. ***/****
Adam Sandler is always going to be my favorite funny guy in show biz. This movie proves it! It has the same old cinderella story as most sports movies do but with Adam it just seems a whole lot better. My favorite Adam Sandler film to date (Even though Billy Madison is a close second!)
This is an Extremely funny movie. You will laugh no doubt! This is 1 of those special films that you wont get sick of, even if you watch it all the time. This with a doubt one of Adam Sandlers funniest movies and sits up there with the wedding singer, water boy and little nikki. This even beats Billy Madison!Happy Gilmore is a wanna be pro ice hockey player that can hit the puck as hard as any one but cant skate for ****.The IRS takes his loving grandma's "who is too old" house off her.Until he discovers that he can hit a golf ball like no other and chubs offers him a free training lesson to earn some BIG BUCKS.He is rude and crude, a guy you dont want to mess with and he is playing with golf players! You just have to see what happens (you will see bad language and fighting) it is a very fun and enjoyable movie from start to finish and i recommend this to all comedy fans!HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
If you give the public better comedy, they'll take to it.Unfortunately, the comedies that are advertised the most and make themost money are stupid ones like this, with talentless "actors" likeAdam Sandler being the same person in every single film. Don't get mewrong - I hated him the FIRST time he did his character. On SaturdayNight Live, he and David Spade were the two worst, yet "Canteen Boy"was a huge hit. Ugh.If you want smart humor, you don't see an Adam Sandler film EVER. Ifyou want easy-to-understand humor, go see Naked Gun or somethinginstead - it's very easy to understand, but one thousand times better. This type of movie is for people that don't know any better, it reallyis. Saying that it's a movie you "treasure" makes me sick.Adam Sandler is, and always will be, totally talentless and unfunny. Hehas been his whole life, yet the entirely slow public loves him. I'llnever understand. If you have any respect for your intelligence, neverwatch this movie or any other movie featuring this awful human being.
I had heard about this film, because of the leading actor and the themeof the film, I certainly wanted to see it, from director Dennis Dugan(Big Daddy, You Don't Mess with the Zohan, Grown Ups). Basically failedhockey player Happy Gilmore (Adam Sandler) is looked after and livingwith his grandmother, he has no direction in life and his grandma owesmoney from taxes to keep the house. One day while at a driving range heis bet on that he can't hit a golf ball far, and that is when hediscovers his talent to hit a ball a hundred feet away. Retired progolfer Chubbs (Predator's Carl Weathers) spots Happy and this newfoundtalent, and he tells him that a lot of money can be made going pro, atfirst he is reluctant but he enters the debut championship. He managesto win and is ready to go to the real championships to playprofessional golf, alongside such high profile players like theegotistical Shooter McGavin (Christopher McDonald). Happy slowlybecomes a talking point, not just for his skill to hit a ball far tothe hole, but for his temper tantrums and frequent swearing when hegoes wrong on the course. He is of course earning loads of cash and thefund needed to pay for the house is slowly being raised, but there isthe obvious low point when he is forced to stop playing. Chubbs giveshim back some confidence on a mini golf course, and even though hisone-handed friend dies, Happy is determined to beat Shooter, they betwith each other to win the championship for ownership. So the bigchampionship match comes round, Happy trails for a little while, letting Shooter gloat and be a bastard, but in the end the heroprevails, and Happy and his grandma get their house back with the prizemoney. Also starring Julie Bowen as Virginia Venit, Frances Bay asGrandma, Allen Covert as Otto, Robert Smigel as IRS Agent, Bob Barker,The Spy Who Loved Me's Richard Kiel as Mr. Larson, Dennis Dugan as DougThompson, Joe Flaherty as Jeering Fan and Lee Trevino. Sandler asalways is the fun often moody slightly odd hero, McDonald and Weatheralso do well in the two main supporting roles, there are some goodtypical slapstick jokes, and you can enjoy the golfing moments, it'snot such a bad sports comedy. Okay!
Halariously funny for Adam Sandler lovers. I dont know how to review this movie but every line that is said in this movie was halarious and on target. It beat Billy Madison In my eyes.
Happy Gilmore is Adam Sandler's best movie. There is nothing but humor the whole movie. From the Bob Barker fight, to the death of 'Chubbs' the movie has humor written all over it. Happy, who is a true golfer, simply will not admit it. He wants to play HOCKEY! But, he is terrible. After the IRS take away his grandmothers house, he plays on golf tours to make enough money to get it back. He has the biggest temper that anyone could ever ever have. This even gets him temporarily kicked off the tour, in which he goes to work for Subway. All in all, probably one of the best comedys that there is!
I love this movie. It is so hillarious. This is one of the few movies that never gets old.
IF YOUR A GOLF OR ADAM SANDLER FAN,SEE THIS MOVIE.IT WAS EXTREMELY HILARIOUS.HAPPY GILMORE JUST GETS SO PISSED OFF!
A funny flick in its own right, this movie is Sandler's best, but he stillhasn't really been given a film that really suits his style without being awatered-down, young Bill Murray. Bob Barker gives one of the best cameosever as Sandler's p'od parter in a celebrity golf match and Carl "ApolloCreed" Weathers returns as an ex-golf champ. Some good laughs, but apredictable story. I think the stardom of Sandler is based on the fact thathe acts like somebody you could be buddying around with at a local party --maybe someone will give me 10 million for a flick like this one day...Ithink I can take Bob Barker. 7 of 10.
Whats not to like? Sandler comes up with another funny, but thin premise. This time Sandler plays a hockey player turned golf pro because he needs the cash. The only thing is he can't putt worth his salt, but he can smash a drive like nobody's business! This is pretty damn funny and the Sandler / Bob Barker fight is......"Priceless"!(no pun intended) OK, it was! The DVD transfer is good.
HAPPY GILMOREOne of the all time classics that people either love or hate, I fall into the love category. This film is just straight fun to me, no brain power and interesting situations and characters make for a good time. Sure the humor is juvenile and some times stupid but that is the point. It is a straight forward comedy and for some reason I love it. Plus you have to love anything that says "it's all in the hips".Happy Gilmore is a hockey player want to be who doesn't have all the skills necessary but has a great slap shot. One day he finds out that his grandmother is loosing her house and there is nothing really he can do about it. That is until he discovers golf after making a bet with some guys and drives the ball farther than either of them can. After one of them makes a simple little comment he decides to try his hand at golf, well once he learns that he can make the "big bucks". So off Happy goes trying to win as much money as possible to save his grandmothers house. This still to this day is one of my favorite movies because, well I don't know why but I love it for some reason. Could be that I am a huge hockey fan or maybe because Bob Barker beats up Adam Sandler but I love it. It could of course also be that Christopher McDonald is perfect as Shooter and Ben Stiller is an excellent villain here as well, maybe it is all of that. Any way this movie is not for everybody but for those who get it they will love it.Written by Sandler and Tim Herlihy and directed by Dennis Dugan "Happy Gilmore" is one of those flicks that is just dumb fun. If you like it you like it if you don't you don't, it doesn't really matter, for those who do love it. Sandler was at an all time best here in fact I think his earlier films are his best ones, well at least the most fun. McDonald is perfect as Shooter like I mentioned earlier, I have always liked that kind of jerk villain in a movie. Ben Stiller is as well great here as the guy at the nursing home that is supposed to take care of Happy's grandmother. Of course Carl Weathers is brilliant as well as is Allen Covert, he may just be a scene stealer and he really doesn't have any lines.I am sure if you are no Sandler fan you are reading this rolling your eyes but I think you have it in you to like this flick. Any one who goes into this with the brain off and realizes that this film is just dumb fun then I think they will enjoy it. Sure it may not be a perfect movie but it is a fun one. I say give it a try if you never have and if you have give it one more. You may just end up at least being entertained by it.
Adam Sandler is a genius. Never before have I enjoyed golf until seeing this movie. How this man could make such a boring sport so entertaining is beyond me. Then again, all you have to do is check out Happy Gilmore to find out. Putting an enraged hockey player on a golf course with a bunch of funny looking old guys and pricks is brilliant. As Happy tries to earn enough money to buy his grandmas house back, grandma has a little adventure of her own while being pushed around by an abusive but funny headmaster. Metting Chubbs, Happy's caddys, and Shooter McGavin make the movie perfect. This movie is full of quotes that will keep you laughing in your sleep.
Lots of swearing, but still funny! I loved it when Happy got his butt kicked by Bob Barker! Heh heh. It was awesome when Happy played golf and made a hole in one !!!
Hilarious. I especially liked Adam Sandler. His best movie was The Waterboy. I love Adam even if he is wild sometimes. I think Adam's much funnier than Robin Williams. Adam cracks me up so much. I bet I'd be laughing through the whole movie when I see Big Daddy. I think Adam should sing a song for a movie. He's so funny. He should sing a rap song. I hear he's a really nice person.
Stars: Adam Sandler, Carl Weathers, Julie Bowen, Chris McDonald, AllenCovert, Richard Kiel, Dennis Dugan, Joe Flaherty, Ben Stiller.Let me start off by saying that I really do not find Adam Sandler to befunny. I have yet to see a movie where I actually find him funny, butthis was one of his better tries. Adam Sandler plays hockey, then golfplayer, Happy Gilmore trying to raise money for his grandmother. Inorder to learn golf, he gets help from Chubbs, played by the scenestealing Carl Weathers. Adam Sandler plays a jerk, yet he issurprisingly likable and you are rooting for him in the film. If you'rea fan of Sandler I highly recommend this. If you aren't a particularlybig fan of him, this will kill an hour and a half. Also noted is BenStiller in a hilarious cameo as the Senior Home worker. My rating: ** 1/2 out of ****. 95 mins. PG-13 for Language.
When I first saw a movie with Adam Sandler I thought he was funny. Thefirst movie I have ever seen with Adam Sandler in it was Waterboy. WhenI watched Happy Gilmore I thought it was better than any other of themovies I have seen. He acts so stupid in that movie. He is a golfer andyet he is really good in golf. I hate golf and I loved this movie. Notonly do I like Adam Sandler, but i also like Christopher McDonald. Inthis movie he played Shooter McGavin and did a really good job. Myfavorite part of the movie i thought was when Shooter McGavin had tohit the ball off of Frankenstein's foot. It was funny. I thought it wasunfair that Happy Gilmore had to hit the ball through that tower thatfell over the hole. But he hit it in the hole and made it. He wasawesome. If you haven't seen this movie yet you really need to see it.You might like it.
Happy Gilmore without a doubt is one of Adam Sandler's best movies. When I was in Blockbuster one night my frieend told me to rent this. I rented it thinking it would suck because of the golf. Boy was I wrong. It was so good I got online the next day and bought it. The movie is about Happy Gilmore, "a hockey player" that never seems to make the team and owns the record of the only guy to try to stab somebody with their skate. After his grandmother's house is going to be auctioned by the IRS, Happy must save the day. He starts playing golf and then a mab named Chubs picks him up and coaches him. Within minutes Happy is a megastar in the PGA tour. With great scenes on the golf course and off, Happy Gilmore is a film you don't want to miss. Some other good Sandler titles you may enjoy are Billy Madison and The Waterboy, but this one is even better.HAPPY VIEWING!
Adam Sandler played his best role ever in this movie that you can never watch too many times. There are so many classic lines and unforgetable scenes that can crack me up even after having seen it 10 or 15 times. This movie unlike many comedies was hilarious from beginning to end, and is definitely a movie worth owning.
This movie was a super funny movie!! One of the best parts was when Happy was singing through his apartment speaker. Adam Sandler rules in this movie and if you haven't seen it, you have to.
