| Storyline | Blending state-of-the-art animation with live action, Hop tells the comic tale of Fred, an out-of-work slacker who accidentally injures the Easter Bunny and must take him in as he recovers. As Fred struggles with the worlds worst house guest, both will learn what it takes to finally grow up. |
The ideas are so uninspired and the direction so vanilla that the end result is nothing but a rotten egg.
Hop can't even find anything funny to do with Kaley Cuoco.
This is a cute and funny Easter-themed movie for young kids. That's about all you need to know about it. The plot is not particularly inventive, nor the writing or characters, but it's solid holiday-themed entertainment. And this is definitely Easter as 'kid holiday' not 'religious holiday', so if you are looking for something that gets into the religious meaning of Easter, it's not here. This movie centers around an Easter Bunny named Hop who wants to be a drummer, and so runs away from Eastertown. As a movie, Hop is to Easter what Rudolph is to Christmas - a non-religious, cute holiday-themed movie about misfits who find their way. Hop and his friends are all animated, while the humans in Los Angeles where he runs to are not. The mix of animation and 'real characters' is about as good as I've seen. Probably will be an annual watch in our house for the next few years...
Hop wasn't the best animated movie I have seen, it wasn't the worst either. It is a great movie to take kids too, I just didn't like to when the bunny visited to playboy manision, I had some adult humor a little bit. I really liked to pink barays.
The occasional scene and dialogue had me smiling and an occasional light laugh, but the boring parts came to often and too numerous. This movie has a good premise but the script writers didn't follow through. The star bunny was the best part, and the human hero really should go back to acting school.Bottom line: your kids might like it, but parents will have to stifle their yawns.
I decided to get an I-HOP tasting after seeing those very enticingtrailers of this computer animated film called "Hop" about a rock stardreaming Easter Bunny. The aforementioned protagonist is called E.B.and is vocally branded by Mr. Katy Perry himself, Russell Brand. In theflick, E.B. is about to be crowned the next Easter Bunny in hishometown of Easter Island by the former Easter Bunny who happens to beE.B.'s dad (voiced by Hugh Laurie). However, E.B. does not roll withthe beat of that drum and decides to hop away from his so-calleddestiny by fleeing to Hollywood to pursue his dream of being a stardrummer. In Tinsletown, he meets Fred O' Hare; a California slacker whois housesitting the mansion of a millionaire employer of his sister.O'Hare is played by the other James Franco named James himself, JamesMarsden. Obviously, O'Hare is first startled of the sight of a talkingbunny, and is wondering if he saw "Donnie Darko" yet one too manytimes. Eventually, E.B. and Fred buddy up; and with Fred's help, E.B.ends up in a David Hasselhoff talent show in order to pursue his famousmusician aspirations. This is where the film gets very chipmunked(whatever that means) and follows the same formulaic route as the"Alvin and The Chipmunk" masterpieces (sarcastically coughing numeroustimes). Back at Easter Island, a petite chick villain (yes, you heardright) named Carlos decides to plan a coup so he can be the next EasterBunny. Carlos is voiced by Hank Azaria. Russell Brand did nail voicingE.B. (I don't think no one could have done better), and Azaria was alsoquite a bad chick delight with his vocal efforts as Carlos. However, Ido have to go egging on the rest of "Hop". Marsden was extremelyannoying with his performance as Fred, and the rest of the human castof "Hop" seemed as if they were doing the bare minimum to pick up theirEaster movie paychecks. Director Tim Hill and Screenwriters Cinco Paul& Ken Daurio did find their way in developing the animated charactersrightfully so, but they could not hunt their way at all in constructingan engaging plot line. For the most part, "Hop" is a basket full ofridiculousness, but Brand and Azaria saved it from being a.. (drum rollplease) Holiday cinematic disaster. *** Average
The bunny? It burns. Bad.
This review is from: Hop Blu-ray Combo Pack (Blu-ray+DVD+Digital Copy+UltraViolet) (Blu-ray) 4 year old and 6 year old really liked this movie! I saw part of it - and I did not like it as much!I think they watched it twice! I am sure will see it next Easter!
This review is from: Hop (DVD) great movie... kids loved it due to the Easter bunny and then relating it to real life person. Would recommend it to all.
THis has to be one of the most stupid movies ever. I dont understand how anyone above the age of 2 would think this was even remotely funny.
Hop is a great film for the whole family, its colorful and fun withgreat humor and storyline.I would also praise the great voice cast,Russel Brand as EB (also does a brief cameo as an assistant talking toEB) Hank Azaria as Carlos and Hugh Laurie as Ebs Dad The Easter BunnyA young Bunnys dad,who is The Easter Bunny, wants his son to take hisplace when he retires, but a few years later to time has come but EBwants to be a drummer for a band instead but his fathers forces him tobe the next easter Bunny.Meanwhile,a young man called Fred O Hara has failed another job reviewand is still living with his parents. His parents decide to kick Fredout so he will get a job,his sister lets him stay in his boss's housewhile he is on vacation but he must keep the place nice and clean.Keeping it clean becomes a problem, when EB runs off to Hollywood tobecome a drummer instead of an Easter Bunny, and decides to stay at thehouse after he Fred runs him over, but doesn't do a good job at keepingthe place clean,The Bunny decides to audition for The Hoff(DavidHasselhoff).
This review is from: Hop (DVD) Loved this movie. Kept me wondering what was going to happen next. It was seriously funny too. Loved the idea that human helped the Easter Bunny.
What with Easter fast approaching, there was bound to be a movie thattried to exploit this market just as there is every Christmas with theswathe of below average Santa Claus movies. Hop gave me some hope thatit might rise above the average though as it was made by the samepeople that brought us Despicable Me (but then again they also gave usAlvin and the Chipmunks, twice and soon to be thrice!)This movie has obviously set it's target market at the kids and sothere is no shortage of lovable furry characters and simple smirks tobe had at their bumbling about. This means the movie isn't going tomake you think all that hard. It follows two main characters- a rabbitE.B. (damn that's original although I'm embarrassed to say it took melonger than it should to make that connection) voiced by Russell Brandand Fred O'Hare, James Marsden, (spot the next connection), a human, inboth the animated and real worlds. Both have overbearing fathers whowant something for them that they themselves do not.Deciding that being the Easter bunny is not the life for him E.B. makesfor the big lights of Hollywood to try and show off his skills as adrummer and prove his father wrong. There he runs into Fred and theirrelationship gets off to a slow start. E.B. is very much theprotagonist causing problems all over the shop that Fred has to keepresolving which is where I think most of the laughs are expected tocome from. Add to the mix the pink berets (a crack squad of ninjabunnies) and a couple of token celebrity experiences from the Hoff andHefner and there is enough to keep the plot moving forward. The animation holds up quite well and there are only a few times in themovie where you can sense that the animators just didn't quite make itwork. I'm still not totally convinced by movies that put animatedcharacters in the real world when the movie is not an action adventureor sci-fi but they are getting better at it with Paul being a goodexample of the tide starting to turn.It was slightly disappointed that Hop leaned so heavily on the templatethat made Despicable Me a relative success. Despicable Me has theexcitable yellow minions and Hop has just added feathers and in somecases another eye to give us the chick minions lead by Carlos (HankAzaria). Although they provide some of the better comic moments theydon't really have that same impact as the critters from Despicable Me.Now don't get me wrong this isn't a bad movie, it's just that anythingaimed so one dimensionally at children with no real overlay for adultjokes or anything other than 'aww look at the cute fluffy bunny' is notreally going to get me going. If you've got young kids then this willbe an ideal way to spend an hour and a half otherwise wait for it tohit the TV screens. For further reviews feel free to check out:http://www.fanaticalaboutfilms.com
Bunnies and chicks and someone else said in his summary line. And whilethis might mean something else with other movies, this family movie isaimed straight at the kids. James Marsden character is very onedimensional indeed and has almost no charisma at all (his father is waybetter, with a better actor playing that role of course). The animated stars over-shine their "real" counterparts, but overallthey do not shine as much as they could. The story is an old one(you've seen it and you know where it is heading, unless you are thetarget audience that is) and the jokes are hit and miss. The moral isanything but subtle and as an adult you won't really have many thingsyou can enjoy (something Pixar knows how to do ... combine the youthwith their parents or any other adult watching the movie). Still forthe young ones, there is much to enjoy!
I loved Hop. It was a terrific movie overall, but the beginning was a little slow. I honestly don't know why the critics and most people were being so hard on it. It may have not been perfect but it came pretty close. P.S. Kids under 3 & 4 might get bored.
This movie was a lot better than I was expecting. It was heart-warming,and had the right amount of comedy suitable for any age. E.B. wasadorable and hilarious. Russell Brand was the perfect choice. E.B.'sdad is retiring and wants his son to continue on and become the newEaster Bunny, but E.B. doesn't want that life. He runs away toHollywood to start a new life, but is almost run over by a slackernamed Fred O'Hare. Fred is having trouble with his family as well. While Fred is house sitting, E.B. decides to crash with him. Back atEaster Island, a chick named Carlos plots to take over the Easterholiday, unless Fred and E.B. can stop him. I highly recommend HOP!!!
This was a pretty cute movie, a little humor for adults like any good childs movie these days.I left satisied for what i paid for, your going to see a movie about the Easter Bunny so you cant really knock it for not being Oscar worthy. All in all I thought it had enough laughs to merit going to see it.Like I said cute movie worth taking the kids to see.
Colorful and disposable entertainment for the kids. Adults will be intermittently amused but will spend more time checking their watches.
E.B. is brought to life by Brand, the CGI is seamlessly worked into the live action, and Hop is briskly paced. It's entertaining enough but ultimately disposable.
This time, the phrase "From the producers of Despicable Me" did notsound like a warning, but as a recommendation, because I moderatelyenjoyed that movie. Unfortunately, Hop ended up being a horrible filmwhich uses the most cloying and tiring routines from the family cinema. In a few words, I found the story to be boring, the humor to beexcessively simple and trite and the performances (with one exception)to be lacking of any life or energy. However, the solid animation andvivacious music might fool to some kids to make them believe they arehaving fun.I previously mentioned that almost all the performances (also the voiceones) feel listless. The only actor who shows conviction in his role isJames Marsden as the leading character. His best attribute in thismovie is that he makes us to believe he is genuinely interacting with arabbit which would not exist on the screen until months later, duringthe post-production. And I also liked the fact that he takes hischaracter seriously; thinking about it better, I think that that iswhat makes the relationship between his character and the rabbitcredible. Unfortunately, Marsden's competent work was not enough forsaving this movie from being an absolute tedium. And just in case the screenplay was not questionable enough, Hop forcesits premise even more in order to justify the use of sporadicrock-and-roll songs, with the hope of looking "cooler". Besides, theexcuse of the rabbit wanting to be a rock singer is simply a rehash ofthe old cliché "son who refuses to follow his father's steps". Anyway,I think that Hop is an atrocious movie which made me feel likegenuinely wasting my time. In other words, avoid it at any cost.
