Not a laugh riot, but this is worth paying money for

I wasn't interested in the movie when I first heard about it. Thenimmediately after reading more about the plot, the movie appealed tome. It's an entertaining movie that lives up to its potential. KevinSpacey, of course, is a scene-stealer. If you find yourselfexperiencing deja vu watching his performance, then you might rememberhim in "Swimming with Sharks". Except he was the star. Colin Farrel isokay as the son of a dead boss. As for Jennifer Aniston's character, her performance is great, too. But I didn't think of this character asa boss. Just as an assistant. "Horrible Bosses" is very entertainingfrom start to finish, and not consistent in its second act. One of thebosses is killed by another, Another doesn't get killed like promised, and the third boss's story never gets resolved at all. But that doesn'tmake the movie any less likable.*** out of ****

Avoid this poor attempt at a comedy

There was hardly a laugh from my fellow watchers all the way throughthis film. To say this was a comedy is the biggest laugh this film willget. I could give you loads of reasons why this film is so poor but tobe honest its already wasted 98mins of my life and I don't really wantto waste any more, avoid this film at all costs! It seems I have to do ten lines of text before I can submit this reviewso I it looks like I really do have have to waste more of my life onthis earth reviewing this film. If it was a compared to a planet itwould be the moon, cold, humourless but pretty (thanks to a semi nakedJA). Its a shame the film set had oxygen (unlike the moon)then perhapsthis film would not have been made.

"...bend her over a barrel and show her the 50 states."

Okay, okay, Bateman/Day/Sudeikis are superb (and ad lib and mesh sensationally), but come on: Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Aniston, and a surprisingly hysterical Colin Farrell make HORRIBLE BOSSES the outright side-splitter it is. Spacey plays an immoral megalomaniac, Anniston a maneating predator, and Farrell a lowlife cokehead; all three are unabashedly over the top, and it pays comedic dividends in spades. So when Nick (Jason Bateman), Kurt (Jason Sudeikis), and Dale (Charlie Day is hysterical) are collectively overwhelmed to the point of plotting to kill their bosses, they enlist the aid of a hoodlum (Jamie Foxx, yet another grand enhancement to the cast); and of course, everything goes to Hades in a handcart, making this madcap gem one whale of a fun ride. Sure, there is locker room humor, and it's rude and crude, but it's done so masterfully it dares you not to belly laugh.Look for cameos by Ron White and Bob Newhart that deliver some grins, and the entire cast deserves kudos for comedic timing, pacing, chemistry, and delivery. It's nonsensical and out of control; but because the cast obviously isn't taking the story seriously, why should the viewer? Just roll with the punches and enjoy the nonstop ride; HORRIBLE BOSSES is a comedy that satisfies the funny bone and serves notice that R-rated comedies can be very, very good.--D. Mikels, Esq.

Ain;t NOTHING horrible here....

Yep...the best comedy of the year so far has been released.Sorry, "Bridesmaid," you are now in second place. When Nick, Kurt and Dale get pushed just a little too far by theiremployers, they realize that the only way they might be able to breakfree from employment hell is....to kill their bosses. And a plan gets set into motion... Well, kinda....and thus, hilarityensues. In what may be some of the best comedic turns in ages, Jason Bateman,Jason Sudeikis (SNL) and Charlie Day ("It's Always Sunny inPhiladelphia") don't merely step up to comedic plate...all three hithome runs as the plotting disgruntled employees. However, almost moreimpressive is the unexpectedly brilliant performances by the horriblebosses themselves. Kevin Spacey, always brilliant, shines withexcellent comedic flair as Nick's masochistic president. Colin Farrell, almost unrecognizable here, shines as Kurt's coke-head, womanizingsleazeball of a boss. But Jennifer Aniston, after a flood of tepidcomedies, takes the cake as she returns to the silver screen with avengeance as Dale's blatantly sexually harassing, dirty-mouthed vixenof a dentist.Wrapping it all up is Jamie Foxx, triumphant as a "murder consultant"with one of the most unsubtle character names to hit cinemas in a longtime. An absolute blast from the get-go, "Horrible Bosses" is definitely inline with the aforementioned "Bridesmaids" and the "Hangover" series interms of raunch and crass humour, but the execution and writing here isjust astounding.Few movies scream "buy me" from the midway point, but seriously, if youneed to bust a gut, you'll be in for ninety-seven minutes of purecomedic bliss.

Very funny movie, even better than I expected.

In first part of film you get to see the working place of three friends and the horrible types of bosses in each one. Then their scheme to get rid of these terrible bosses is what get really good. In the theater where I saw the film people were laughing their heads off. I heard one group of "older" young adults (not teens, much older than that) laughing and repeating the lines and gags all after and during the closing credits and even staying till the very end of those enjoying themselves repeating the funny moments. I also heard them say they couldn't wait to see the film again.I loved Kevin Spacey's portrayal of terribe brutal dictatorial boss. Someone you really wanted to hate. I was entertained by Jennifer Anniston's portrayal of a DDS always sexually harrassing her male assistant who was engaged to be married soon. Colin Farrel as the cokehead and playbay son of the one beloved boss in the group (soon to take over the company should anything happen to Kiefer Sutherland, his dad) really good too. I didn't recognize him until the crdits revealed him as he looked so different. Although I am now retired after 37 years of working on same job under an assortment of bosses, I found it very funny and a lot of fun. Of course, pure fantasy, but so many crazy things kept happening it was much better than I thought it would be going in.The one person on here giving such a negative review does not echo the reaction of the group of adults filling the theater where I went to see it last Saturday afternoon.

Surprisingly Good!!

The movie was really good. It was very funny and not predictable andvery well acted. The story is about three people (bateman, sudekis, day) who have 3 very evil bosses(spacey, faarrel, aniston). Theydecided that there lives would be much easier if their bosses were deadso they enlist the help of motherf***** Jones( jamie fox)And from therehilarity ensue. Bateman is great as the straight man while sudekis andday have all the fun but are great at it. Now for the villains, spaceywas great as usual while Farrel was barley recognizable as the cokeaddicted boss of sudekis, but aniston was probably the most fun towatch as the dentist who harasses day and she is great at it her aloneis the reason the movie is rated R. This movie is a must see for loversof the hangover!!!

Hilarious, they don't make comedies like this anymore

This awesome comedy reminded me a lot of how comedies used to be --this flick revives the days of "There's Something About Mary" and "Meetthe Parents." The cast is reason alone to go see it. Jennifer Anistonwas really funny in it, however there wasn't much explanation as to WHYher character was doing the things she was doing and why she was theway she was. The other two horrible bosses (Spacey and Farrel) hadclearer motives to their bad behavior. Nonetheless, Aniston was betterin this movie than in a lot of her other roles. Kevin Spacey and ColinFarrrell were absolutely stellar, and Jason Bateman was amazing. Iliked Charlie Day's character, however it was a little too similar tohis character in "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia." He's a youngactor though and not as seasoned as the others - he will eventuallyfind his stride in developing characters different than what he'salready done.Plot was pretty solid, with enough twists that were actually feasiblein real life. Soundtrack wasn't anything to write home about.Cinematography was pretty standard. I think they could have done morewith the camera zooms, angles, lenses, etc to make the flick morevisually interesting. The out-takes and extra scenes through thecredits were also very funny. Make sure you stay till the end. All inall a hoot, I laughed a lot.

Extremely funny and well-made

So I finally saw Horrible Bosses... and it was a DELIGHT. As expected, the cast was extremely funny. This is definitely an ensemble film. Allthree of the bosses were hilarious, and the trio reminded me of theguys from The Hangover (although this is a better film than that). Iwouldn't say the film took its crime aspect in a dark way. That is nota criticisms because it didn't have to. Many parts the film wereshocking in its turn of events and for that I am grateful. My onecomplaint would have to be the final 'climax' for Spacey's last scene. It felt the film geered away for a while there. However, it stillremains a very good film that I thought was extremely entertaining andvery funny.

Couldn't Stop Laughing

I knew Horrible Bosses was going to be hilarious but it beat my expectations. There were moments where I wanted to fall to the floor in laughter. I like how unpredictable it was too. I wasn't sure if they were going to kill their bosses or not. Some good surprises. Collin Ferrel is classic, Kevin Spacey plays a great psycho and Jennifer Aniston...yeah she is just hot and was funny as h*ll. This is my favorite comedy so far this summer and I'll bet it will be other people's too.

Above-Average Hilarity

Three guys suffer under bosses so terrible that they plot to eliminatethem from their lives. This comedy of errors probably seemed likesurefire hilarity on paper. Sadly, "Four Christmases" director SethGordon and scenarists Michael Markowitz, John Francis Daley, andJonathan M. Goldstein don't quite pull off the premise as well as theycould have. One example is a character who is a registered sexoffender, except that he really isn't a sex offender. The explanationis too complicated and it isn't very funny. Jason Bateman as NickHendricks, Jason Sudeikis as Kurt Buckman, and Charlie Day as DaleArbus make an incredibly hilarious trio. They behave like real friends, and they have chemistry. The best parts of "Horrible Bosses" is whenthese guys interact, while the rest of the movie is only intermittentlyfunny. As Dave Harken, Kevin Spacey is the biggest of the villains, andhe drives Nick up the wall, while Colin Farrell--in a major overhaul inappearance--makes a thoroughly obnoxious boss. The third boss isJennifer Aniston as a dentist who has the hots for her assistant Dale(Charlie Day) and blackmails him into having sex. Altogether, HORRIBLEBOSSES qualifies as an above-average comedy with some questionablescenes. In one of those scenes, Kurt takes the toothbrush that one oftheir bosses uses and uses it to massage his anus. When ourprotagonists decide that they want to kill their bosses, they approacha man who has just gotten out of prison (Jamie Foxx) but he does nothandle their business, he serves as their coach.

Horrible Bosses (2011) - I Really Hate My Boss So Much!

Three bosses. You hate them a lot. You go out on a murder mission, andthen everything goes haywire! That is the diabolical laugh-out-loudplot to "Horrible Bosses". But to be more specific, the movie is mainlyabout these three guys who each have three horrible bosses, and theyset up a plan with the Jamie Foxx character to kill their bosses, whichleads into so much mayhem. Anyways, "Horrible Bosses" is one of thefunniest movies ever since "The Hangover". The plot is crystal perfect, the script is hilariously well-written, and the raunchiness is funny asever. But what impressed me the most, was the hilarious castingensemble of some of the best actors you can hire for a movie. But justto fit the occasion, I'll arrange the cast like this: THE DUDES: JasonSudeikis knows his comedy skills, and he can do anything that involvesbeing funny. Jason Bateman was perfect, but he is always playing thesame role as a quirky, nervous type of guy. Charlie Day, on the otherhand, was the best dude of the three guys, because with all of hisenergy and quirkiness, he can be able to do such funny things by justacting completely weird. THE BOSSES: Kevin Spacey once again doesbrilliant work on the screen since "American Beauty", and took on arole that brought a lot of enthusiasm and wackiness. Colin Farrell doesa killer performance, but he should have got more screen time. ButJennifer Aniston completely stole the show, because she was portrayingsuch a role that she has never done before, and she really delivers!Let's just say her role is "sexually surprising". Oh, and Jamie Foxxwas pretty funny in the movie as Mother-(fill in the blanks) Jones! That's it! From a cool soundtrack, a hilarious script, to a brilliantcast ensemble, "Horrible Bosses" delivers all the laughs you want, andthey never stop entertaining you with so much raunchy humor. "HorribleBosses", in my review, "one of the funniest movies ever, and itdelivers so much entertainment".

Don't believe the hype

I don't know how this got so many reviews saying how hysterically funny it was. I don't want to undermine it altogether. Aniston did great with a raunchy role (she should take more roles likes this), Spacey was excellent ... as always (although his role in here was a PG-13 version of his character from Swimming With Sharks (Special Edition)), and Bateman did well carrying most of the film as did movie newcomer Charlie Day. But ... the plot was mediocre and the humor died out halfway through the film. Also, what the hell is up with Jason Sudeikis? How is he cast as this ladies man ... and one in real life!? I mean Mad Men's January Jones and House's Olivia Wilde!?!?! Seriously!?!?! The guy looks like a used car salesman! I don't get how he would be cast in a role like this. But, nonetheless, the trio worked well together. An OK film but not as funny as filmgoers made it out to be.

Laughed So Much I Got a Stomach Ache

So my ISP decided to do a scheduled maintenance last night - WITHOUT ADVANCE NOTICE - just as I sat down for a relaxing evening of internet, only to find no connection that was to go on for hours. Grrrr. I was so pissed. Thankfully I'd recently gotten this DVD and hadn't watched it yet. Within the first ten minutes of watching it my mood had completely turned around.Comedies aren't usually my first choice for movie-watching. Most of them just seem too contrived, or too vulgar, or too phony in some way. Horrible Bosses doesn't come off as any of these things: it flows smoothly and brilliantly from one ridiculously (wonderfully) disastrous moment to the next. Every single person cast played their roles to perfection. Even the NavGuide (car voice of "Gregory") was an hilarious addition. You could just see a sort of movie magic happening here with the blend of actors involved, the script, and how they handled their roles. You could sense they must have had a lot of fun making this movie. (I have no idea how Bateman ever managed to keep a straight face with Spacey's cracking-up over "Gam Gam". There's no way I could have kept it together, no matter how many takes they gave me.)Yes, there's lot of foul language, crude humor, but this wouldn't be what it is without that. Nothing was gratuitous. I could on and on about everything they did right with Horrible Bosses. But it comes down to my highly recommending it if you like the outrageous, if you like genius writing, brilliant acting, a bit of naughtiness, and to LAUGH.

PLEASE STAY WITH YOUR VEHICLE

Three friends have horrible bosses. For one reason or another they are stuck at their jobs. Nick works for Kevin Spacey who is a ridiculous driver and badgers Nick when he is 2 minutes late. Kurt works a chemical company. His new boss is a coke head who sees the business as an ATM machine and wants to run it into the ground. When he says he wants to "trim the fat" that means he wants to fire fat people. Dale, who is engaged, is a dental assistant to Jennifer Aniston, who wants to have sex with him. Even his close friends have trouble believing that is a problem. Kudos to Donald Sutherland's agent who has once again managed to score him a small role. Kurt claims killing his boss, who wants to dump waste on the proverbial poor Bolivians would save lives and that they have a moral duty to kill their boss. Jennifer Aniston develops a comical potty mouth in this film, one that makes Madonna sound like Mother Teresa. After some very brief soul searching our trio decides life would be better without their bosses. However getting to that point is not easy. The movie takes some unexpected twists. The role of Dale (Charlie Day) was clearly written with Zach Galifianakis in mind. In spite of that, this was still an excellent movie. four and a half stars. F-bomb, crude sex talk (mostly by Aniston)

Childish Humor for the Immature Adult Simpleton

What makes something 'funny' is the focal point of comedic philosophy.Do you enjoy racial humor? Sexual innuendos? Poop-jokes? Silly cursewords? Sardonic Family Guy-like, non-linear one liners? Lots of thingscan be funny. But all jokes are not created equal. There is nothing worse than watching an unfunny comedy; somethingstrangely unsettling about staring at a 90 foot screen, just prayingfor the movie to end and knowing in the back of your mind that you willnever get this time back. Why did I not just walk out? Because it was105 degrees outside and there was a nice air conditioner. Seriously. That's why I didn't leave. I will not say that I did not laugh at all, because that is untrue. There were a few times I made audible chuckles, mostly because ofCharlie Day, but 3 laughs in 2 hours is not worth a $7.50 matinée. There were a surprising number of cameos, like from Ron White, thatdude who plays Bunk from The Wire, and several other easily forgettableperformances by famous people I typically like in films. But justbecause I like peanut butter, and mayonnaise, and pickles, and fetacheese, and oysters, and raw Kobe beef, and orange sorbet does not meanthat I'll add all of them in a bowl, mix em up, and hope something goodcomes out of it. Charlie Day was alright. Kevin Spacey was unforgettable. Jason Batemanwas just bad. Jason Sudeikis was the worst. Jennifer Aniston was hot. So, why was this movie so bad? Comedy is a complex art form. Noteveryone can be funny all the time. They can't all be winners. Not allLed Zeppelin albums rock the same. This is a case where seasoned actorsand proved writers combine in a cacophony of crap and the result isremarkably unfunny. 2 stars (for Charlie).

kuehl (2012-05-17 17:20)

Nothing redeeming in this one

Why several notable actors -- Jennifer Aniston, Kevin Spacey and DonaldSutherland -- would sign in for this one is amazing. Don't they knowsomeone they know might see this? It was like, "Okay, we convinced JAto play a really slutty character, talk dirty and take off her clothes. Now, write a story around that." Well, they didn't do a very good job.Three guys have problems with their bosses, so they decide to killthem? I guess the charming part is supposed to be that they arebumbling, foolish would-be murderers. No character to root for in this one, no motives that anyone can getwith. Laughs, mostly at other people's expense. Slow, boring --embarrassing for the actors and their families.

satire of modern American culture

Horrible Bosses is filled with satire of modern American culture.Overly perverse in sexual ways, and definitely not appropriate forchildren, I suppose this dystopian film is a sad reflection of ourreality. Ultimately, it reminds us that we are living in a societydominated by soulless corporations, which are riven by irrational, prejudicial, and feudal hierarchy.Kevin Spacey performed brilliantly, which should be expected of thesecond-best American actor era of his era (after Clint Eastwood),whilst Charlie Day is clearly becoming a modern Woody Allen or CharlieChaplin. Furthermore, Jason Bateman was reminiscent of Ron Livingstonin Office Space, or perhaps Tom Hanks in either The 'Burbs or JoeVersus the Volcano. James Foxx also deserves mention, for his firstmajor role since Any Given Sunday. As for Colin Farrell, you can tellthat he gave this role a lot of serious study. Meanwhile, JenniferAniston once again played herself perfectly.Horrible Bosses is highly recommended for anyone who liked Stone,Hesher, War of the Roses, Office Space, It's Always Sunny inPhiladelphia, Arrested Development, Crash, or American Beauty.

Horrible Movie-Can't Say Anything Else!

What could have been a superior black comedy about every white collarworkers dream disintegrates into a standard TV style movie thats longon raunch and foul language, and short on laughs. Before my review getspulled for "abuse",heres the basic premise. In a nutshell, some officeworkers deceide to murder their bosses cuz they feel that their liveswould be a lot better with them gone, then when things take a wrongturn, the desperation of the workers-and the screenwriter begin toshow. "Borrowing" elements of some of Hitchcocks best work, the storyquickly fizzles out as film takes the shortcut to predictability andmediocrity. . Cast is only so-so, but Kevin Spacey seems to bechanelling his "American Beauty" role. Bateman and others are quiteforgettable and Jennifer Aniston-possibly the worst non actress of thisdecade goes against type and plays a slutty skanky role that thedirector hoped would give this film some "balls", but all she seems todo is alienate and repel the audience even further. The only way Icould recommend this movie to you is to try to sneak into it at somemultiplex and wait until the film you really want to see starts, thatis, of course if you can find one that is actually worth seeing. If youremember the early 80s "Nine to Five" that movie pretty much had thesame premise as this with some funny fantasy sequences too. I'll leaveyou, dear readers to deceide which is the better one-think DollyParton. Thank God that I get to see these movies for free. Being acritic does have its rewards, but unfortunately I have not beenrewarded with any decent movies lately. If you must pay good money tosee this turkey- especially in this Obama economy -demand arefund!Another PU movie review from Lou!

(2012-05-15 02:06)

Awesome

The movie wasn't that bad! Half of the 1-2 star reviews are people complaining about how vulgar the movie is. Why in the world would you buy a movie rated R, which even lists the reason WHY it is rated R, if you didn't want to see vulgarity. Go buy Toy Story 3 and get a good laugh out of that if you are so uptight. For people who enjoy crude comedy, and have actually read WHY it is rated R, should definitely at least rent the movie and check it out. Its especially good for college aged students to go along with movies like The Hangover, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Get Him to The Greek, etc. This is NOT a clean comedy. Emphasis on the NOT. Another thing, watch Its Always Sunny if you haven't ever seen Charlie Day in anything, because I can see how he could get annoying to people who have never seen his type of comedy.

Great movie!

This review is from: Horrible Bosses (+ UltraViolet Digital Copy) (DVD) This movie was unexpectedly funny, close up there with other classic comedies. I would highly recomend this to anyone that is looking for a great laugh. Jennifer Anniston may have stole the show with her "out of character" acting....overall - HYSTERICAL!
