| Storyline | Danny (Adam Sandler) must engage Katherine (Jennifer Aniston), his faithful assistant, to pretend to be his soon to be ex-wife. Danny must pretend that he is married, because he lied to his dream girl, Palmer (Brooklyn Decker) the most gorgeous woman in the world. To keep the woman he loves, covering up one lie soon turns into many lies. |
Full of both funny lines and, most importantly, funny people, "Just Go With It" is Sandler's most accessible film in a long time.
I watched this with my girlfriend, and I wasn't expecting much. Thisfilm genre, though I usually enjoy the comedy side, tends to be ratherheavily focused on the romance.Adam Sandler's character was well played, and very funny, going toextraordinary lengths to cover up a lie he'd made to the gorgeousBrooklyn Decker (who would have made the film worth watching even ifthe story was rubbish). Jennifer Aniston's character was also nicelyportrayed.I thought the soundtrack was a bit off in places - the music could havedone with being a bit older, but generally the film was put togetherincredibly well. For me, though, as a guy who tends to prefer action flicks, it was thecomedy that made this film good. Sandler and Aniston were on good form, but it was the involvement of the kids that made this film so funny.Oh, and the scene with the fake German accent and the sheep. (If thatisn't intriguing enough to make you watch this film then just go towatch both Aniston and Decker in bikinis).
Adam Sandler in another movie, playing exactly the same character as in his other movies. Most of the acting seems like improv, resulting in the lines delivered not being funny or witty. You have to wade through 3/4 of a boring movie to arrive at an agreeable ending. Some scenes did provide good laughs, but most of the movie is just the main actors/actresses having fun with the job, not worrying about making a good movie or not.
Evincing a sense of humor that would be the envy of a first-grader, Adam Sandler once again assaults the concept of humor
fake british and german accents - over the top acting - two dimensional characters and an unbelievably bad story, being a woman jennifer aniston in a bathing suit didnt improve the movie for me, unlike it apparently did for the other 1 star reviewer. I love a chick flick as much as the next girl but this was just bad from start to finish, surprised aniston and kidman agreed to act in the film
Offers several surprises to balance out the predictable moments, and a natural warmth not usually found in anything with Sandler's name on it.
This review is from: Just Go With It (DVD) I loved this movie. I am Latino but this movie has a funny comedy as well some stupid jokes..but made me laugh alot. I enjoyed it very much. Thanks for you prompt service and honesty to sell. Good job. I would buy again.
Just Go With It is a long way removed from the French play which was adapted to become Cactus Flower starring Walter Matthau, Ingrid Bergman and the best supporting actress Oscar-winning Goldie Hawn.
This review is from: Just Go With It (Amazon Instant Video) Adam Sandler is sitting in a golf cart for the duration of this movie, happy, but not because he gets to smooch Jennifer Aniston. It's because he can cell phone in a performance like this and make party money with a formula he can drone between naps. It's not a disaster... it's fun, and there's a laugh or two in there from just about everyone, including professional strange man Nick Swardson. If you are renting instant video and you don't see anything else, this is adequate.
Hmm, Adam Sandler. You either love him or you hate him. And I am always leery of watching films with him in it with my teenagers because you never know how inappropriate it will be. There is inappropriate funny and then there is inappropriate awkward. But I didn't watch this film with my teens so I wasn't really paying attention to that.Sandler has been in a lot of duds, as has Jennifer Aniston, but I must say that I enjoyed them in this. Though I didn't have high expectations. Actually, I had no expectations at all.The movie is about a womanizing plastic surgeon, Danny (Adam Sandler), who falls for someone much younger than him (Palmer boringly and annoyingly played by Brooklyn Decker) but ends up getting trapped by his fibs. So, somewhat unbelievably, he, Palmer, his supposed ex-wife Katherine, well-played by Jennifer Aniston, her two kids and his friend, zanily and irritatingly played by Nick Swardson (to the point where I was cringing), all end up going to Hawaii together. Nicole Kidman plays Katherine's university rival Devlin, but I don't really care for her in this. I didn't realize until the end that Devlin's husband was played by singer/musician Dave Matthews; not really much to say about his character. The start of the film is ok but it gets funnier. Even though it ends up being cliched, I must say that I did enjoy it. It was funny in parts and touching in parts. But my husband would have hated it.To me, the star of this movie was Bailee Madison who plays Maggie, Katherine's daughter. She is a precocious wanna be actress; with her fake accents, her sensitivity and humor, I thought she was phenomenal. Watch out for this one!So yes, I did find the film worth watching.
I'm usually a fan of Adam Sandler and his Happy Gilmore productions but I saw absolutely nothing good about this movie, other than just looking at Aniston. The characters were terrible and totally unbelievable. The whole plot was ridiculous. When my girlfriend and I both decided about halfway through we couldn'tfinish it, I knew it was a clunker. We gave it another ten minutes then we had enough. That's just our opinion.
This review is from: Just Go With It (DVD) Enjoyed this movie. Jennifer Aniston played her part quite well as did Adam Sandler. Liked the movie so much I will watch it again.
Sandler and Aniston easily pass the only important test of romantic comedies: We like them and want them to like each other. If only the other cast members were as good.
This film could have been so much better, but Sandler cannot resist the urge to throw in silly or gross scenes that are merely superfluous to the story.
Adam Sandler movies are hit or miss; they're either pretty damn funnyor they're not very funny at all (saving for his attempts to do someserious stuff here and there). This one kind of fell flat. Sandler is adoc who gets cruelly dumped on his wedding day by his superficial brideto be and decides the only way to heal his broken heart is to become asuperficial jackass himself, by bedding women who are much too youngand pretty to ever really give a guy like that a second look, much lesstime in the sack. You're supposed to sympathize with him because he WAStreated unfairly by the gal he was about to marry but you just can't.He's too snarky and self serving so it's hard to actually root for him.He hatches a plan to use his assistant, played by Jennifer Aniston, tobag a young supermodel chick (Brooklyn Decker) who's so far out of hisleague it's laughable. Unfortunately, Aniston is back on screen againportraying the exact same "hey, look at me! I'm a cool, laid back chickwith a breezy attitude towards life so you should just love me"Rachel-type character that she's played in just about every movie she'sever been in (with the exception of the wonderfully acted "The GoodGirl"). Nick Swardson is along for the ride as Sandler's dippy friendwho provides a few laughs along the way but little else and the youngactors who portray Aniston's kids are kind of grating after a shortwhile. Nicole Kidman has a small role as Aniston's nemesis fromprevious years gone by, but her character is so two-dimensional andsilly that it's obvious she's brought in only to be used as a filler ina dumb back story involving Aniston's long suffering characterKatherine's past. The highlight of this story is the stunning Hawaiianscenery but that's all. This isn't the worst film I've ever seen butit's certainly one of the worst Adam Sandler movies I've had to sitthrough. He can be absolutely hilarious (Anger Management, I NowPronounce You Chuck and Larry, etc.) but this one kind of bites.
This was a stupid movie. . I am not an Adam Sandler fan but I gave this movie a shot to take another glance at his acting. Still not impressed. This was a waste of film. The little girl that play Jennifer Aniston daughter is so annoying-severly overacting. Had to mute it everytime she talked. . She must be related to Adam Sandler. Jennifer Aniston did some overacting also-sorry Jen but you were only good in "Friends" (give up the movies) . But then again there are more annoying actors as (vince Vaghn and will Ferrell). Just have to keep watching my old films that don't give me a headache.
This was so trite and boring. My box of Corn Flakes is funnier than this movie and more interesting. A doctor who acts like a high school freshman is not funny. This is simply the worst movie I have ever seen. Did you know that now making fun of ugly people is funny according this writer. Bathroom humor generally is not funny and this makes that point perfectly and goes on and on with it - just to make sure you don't miss that point. It was so bad I felt sorry for Hollywood for allowing this piece of crap to be made. It should be minus 5 stars.
Let me start out by saying that I'm by no means an Adam Sandler fan,not so much because of him but mainly because of his choices in actingas well as his co-actors (I absolutely despised 'Grown Ups' with KevinJames and the ever-so abysmal Rob Schneider, as well as 'Waterboy'). Assuch I had no expectations to the quality of 'Just Go With It'whatsoever. And on the surface I should've probably hated this movie asthe overall plot, and especially the plot development, is no differentthan any other romantic comedy: *SPOILER*(or not so much a spoiler, actually) - Man meets girl, falls in love with girl, gets help fromfemale friend, falls in love with female friend. Ring any bells? So it comes as no surprise that it is not the plot that drives themovie, but rather the chemistry between the three main charactersDannie, Kathrine and Eddie. It feels right, and not for a single secondwas I bored (not for more than a few minutes at least). Quite anachievement taken the movie's incredible length. The script reallysaved the movie for me, and only major low-point is the clichéd ending(and Sandler's role. What is the deal with Adam Sandler. He is by nomeans a super attractive man and neither a bad-ass... still he tends toplay both - One of Hollywood's greatest mysteries).Admitted, I laughed a lot even though I saw it by myself. Swardson'scharacter is awesome - again a typical character who's saved by a greatscript. And this goes for almost everything about the film. Truly agreat enjoyment, though not my type of movie at ALL. So... I guess theonly thing left to say is "Just Go With It" (corny, I know).
There is nothing to dislike about this film apart, perhaps, from thefact it does go on a bit too long and by the time you get to the pointwhere it begins to wear thin you probably know the ending already. Infact if you follow romantic comedies closely you will have guessed theend not very long into the movie at all but it doesn't spoil thejourney in the least. The back story opening is not especially well done although it servesthe purpose of dishing up the reason why Dr Macabee (Sandler) wears awedding ring. From there the plot clumsily lunges into the smoothertale as to why wearing a wedding ring when he is not married inevitablyeventually leads to trouble. Sandler is his usual self, Anniston is asgood as I have seen her in a movie, and Kidman has a minor riot with awonderfully flawed character. If you like romantic comedies it will not disappoint you but there arebetter choices elsewhere.
This review is from: Just Go With It (DVD) As a romantic comedy, this plot was totally predictable. From moment one, I could tell where the love interests would end up and why. So, if you are looking for a new standard bearer for romantic comedies to supplant Meg Ryan, then keep on tryin'. Is the film a total waste? No, it is a pleasant enough comedy. It's just that I can think of dozens that were more original. Most reviewers won't admit the following, but here goes: When you see a film, home or in the theatre, for the specific reason of seeing your favorite actors, there are times that you can overlook the quality of the film. Let me put it this way: 'Ten' as a film was cute, but a very limited premise. It became legend because of Bo Derek. Well, THIS film should stand on the same merits. As a critical work, 'Just Go with It' is weak and formulaic. HOWEVER, as with the movie 'Ten', there is a moment where Ms. Anniston jumps into a small pond wearing only a thong bikini. Any male, and most females, seeing this moment will remember it. Ms. Anniston is one of the most incredible women ever on the screen but this is the first moment (to my knowledge) that she revealed this much. It is so breath-taking that you forget the (non-existent) plot and say: 'Man, I'm glad I got this film!' The director knew it too: the actors stare in awe as we do.
