Just looking at these two....

This review is from: Life As We Know It (Amazon Instant Video) OK, so I'm shallow. I loved this movie because Heigl and Duhamel are so damned gorgeous and sexy, I had to watch the movie five times to get enough. The baby angle is just fine for building a plot. The chemistry that builds between Duhamel and Heigl carries the movie - you know they are going to end up together but it's going to be a tough sell. If they never ended up together, it would still be great watching some smoldering sexual tension develop. I've seen this movie several times. Love the characters. There are some good laughs, some great romantic moments, and a lot of real feeling. Ultimately, it's a movie about - wait for it - family.

Life as a sappy rom com knows it!

'LIFE AS WE KNOW IT': Two Stars (Out of Five) Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhamel star in this rom com about two singleunexpecting parents who inherit their dying friends baby daughter. It'sfull of cheesy clichés and unfunny mishaps and not surprisingly was abox-office hit due to the draw of the two stars (mainly Heigl). It'sdirected by Greg Berlanti, who has a lot of experience in writing andproducing TV. This is only his second directing effort. The film iswritten by Ian Deitchman (who has one teleplay previously under hisbelt) and first time writer Kristin Rusk Robinson. I don't think thelack of experience was really the problem here though, the writers anddirector delivered just what the studio wanted them to: another cheesyromantic comedy vehicle for Heigl.Heigl plays Holly, a bakery owner, and Duhamel plays Eric Messer, a TVsports director for the Atlanta Hawks. Early on in the film the two areset up on a blind date by their best friends Peter and Allison (HayesMacArthur and Christina Hendricks) that goes horribly wrong. Theirfriends have a baby that they're named the godparents to and when thecouple dies in a car accident Holly and Eric find out that they'reexpected to live in their house together and take care of their child,at least until suitable parents can be found. They of course have noidea how to raise a child and the fact that they hate each othercomplicates things even more. Still they end up getting along and startto see more in each other than they ever thought they would as themovie goes on autopilot and writes itself. The film is obviously predictable and doesn't contain a single scene oforiginality. The jokes are about 95% misfires and the drama is allforced and emotionless. Duhamel is adequate in the film and althoughhe's not one of my favorite actors I know several girls that love him(mainly because of his looks but I think he's a decent likable actor). He can be forgiven for this atrocity as he's not a big enough star yetto really demand the types of roles he wants to (and he has done betterwork in the past). Heigl has made just one bad movie after anothersince hitting it big with 'KNOCKED UP', her one great movie (although Ikind of liked 'THE UGLY TRUTH' I have to admit but I didn't think shewas very good in it). I did think she gave a decent performance in herbreak out Apatow role but since then has shown no skill whatsoever andher choice of roles is despicable. There's not many actors I reallydon't like but she's one of them.Watch our review show 'MOVIE TALK' at:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j95Zjdlcbe0

I actually liked it.

Life As We Know It starring Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhamel is a sweet and moving romantic drama. I'm not a big fan of Heigl and Duhamel, but their performances were shockingly good. The plot of this film is similar to Baby Boom and Raising Helen, but with a twist. The supporting cast is great as well. This movie is a little too long but I liked how the love/hate relationship between the two leads played out. And the little girl is absolutely adorable! This film was a pleasant surprise, buy or rent today!

Not worth the blu-ray price at all!

O.K., yea I bought this on blu-ray strictly for oogling Josh, but I gotta admit the quality of the picture was lousy! It's one of the worst film transfers that I have had the displeasure on blu-ray of owning. I have standard DVDs that have far better picture quality than this loser. As far as the film goes, it was not one of the better films of late. Katherine Heigl was her usual bitchy self as in previous films. I wonder from her screen portrayals if she is actually like this in real life. From all accounts on entertainment web sites and magazines, she definiely has the diva attitude. Josh Duhamel look's as good as ever and tries hard to play opposite his counterpart Heigl. Honestly, if I was him, I would have kicked her to the curb immediately. Josh radiates honesty and warmth and Heigl acts as if she would love to be elsewhere than in this film. Hmmm...that's about the way she acts is all her films. Overall, I tolerated this epic just because of my man crush on Josh!

Saddest comedy EVER! But worth seeing.

Although you can see the whole movie by just watching the previews, Istill went to see it and was not disappointed.Let me start by saying this is the saddest comedy ever. I know, Iknow.. Obviously the original parents die so you expect the beginningto be sad, but it carried through the whole movie. But then again I'mone of those who start crying as soon as anyone on screen does. When Iwas not crying though, it was hilarious. Many are complaining about the ending be predictable, which iscompletely ridiculous. It is. But it wouldn't be a romantic comedy ifthe movie didn't end how we all want it to.The baby was cute. The movie has a good pace. The acting was good. Andlets face it, it could be awful and I'd still watch it again to seeJosh Duhamel.

Good laugh, Decent Story **Some Spoiler***

I went to this movie expecting to have a laugh, and you know what thatsexactly what it gave my friend and I. I don't know why so many peopleare bashing the movie. I thought the story was decent enough to keep meengrossed in the movie the whole time. The ending was kind of corny buthey thats bound to happen with a movie like this.I like the characters and how the movie developed through out and feltlike I got my moneys worth, so hey I have no complaints. I really likedJosh Duhamels role in the film, the guy was such a goof, and an ass formost of the movie. I kind of saw myself in him minus the part aboutbeing a total idiot. Katherine Heigl is smoking and I liked hercharacter to in this movie. The relationship between the two of them was kind of believable and notover the top. I think it was very typical when she chased him to theairport at the end and then he was at her house once she got back. Ipredicted this was going to happen which kind of tells you they couldhave made the climax in this movie a bit better.

Unfunny, annoying and looong, really bad. parents killed off so couple can get together in the end, lame!

I have no idea how listening to TWO hours of a SCREAMING BABY is funny. I got stuck watching this HORRIBLE movie on a date and was forced to finish watching it to be polite. It was PURE TORTURE. Katherine Heigl must really think she is very special to make people pay to sit through this annoying, unfunny, predictable and offensive movie. The parents are killed off(terrible idea) and the 2 idiots end up getting together as a couple in the end, shocking! You could not PAY ME to watch this movie again.

Becoming A Family

"Life as We Know It" is predictable. Not breaking news. 3 years agoJosh Duhamel as Messer and Katherine Heigl as Holly have a set up dateby their best friends Peter and Alison (Hayes MacArthur and ChristinaHendricks) that terminates in Holly's Smart Car. Holly despises Messerway too much. Life happens and tragedy unfolds. Peter and Alison die ina car accident. In their will, unbeknownst to Messer and Holly, theNovaks' name them as legal guardians to their 1 year-old daughterSophie. Reluctantly, Messer and Holly agree to move into the Novaks'house, and raise Sophie until they can figure this out. Did Alison andPeter know something that Holly and Messer were clueless to? Do theyfall in love, and transform into loving parents? Come on, we're smart and have seen our share of romantic comedies.Narrative surprise is not the strong suit of Ian Deitchman and KristinRusk Robinson's screenplay. In spite of all this, "Life as We Know It"is touching romantic comedy. Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhamel areawesome, and have a natural chemistry. Deitchman and Robinson's storystrongly evolves. Director Greg Berlanti expertly orchestrates theright tone. Although, "Life" is romantic comedy, the set up is heartwrenching tragedy. The future of orphaned Sophie (played by Brooke andKiley Liddell) hangs in the balance of whether Heigl and Duhamel canget over themselves. Heigl has a charming vulnerability andauthenticity as Holly, who has dreams of expanding her bakeshop anddearly misses Alison, her personal rock. Duhamel is a nice surprise. Hecasually inhabits Messer, the Player who really has a big heart, by thenumbers. However, Duhamel never overplays, embodying humanity andhumor. With Duhamel we cheer for Messer's transformation. At the storyarc, he confesses to Heigl, "Together… Somehow we're a family." At times we're smarter than the screenplay. From the beginning we seethrough Messer's jerk facade, and distinguish the good man that he isand great guy he can be. Holly is too obsessed being annoyed, to seethe obvious. Fortunately, Heigl and Duhamel are smarter than thescript—hinting at the underlying love Holly and Messer have always had.Chemistry conquers a lot. Validation comes when Baby Whisperer Amy(great Britt Flatmo) says, "You guys make an awesome couple." Listen tothe 12 year-old. Heigl and Duhamel are an amazing looking couple thathas a very comfortable feel. What Berlanti does well is populate "Life" with quirky supportingcharacters and nominal narrative twists. Melissa McCarthy is good asthe seen-it-all Mom DeeDee. Andrew Daly and Bill Brochtrup are funny asthe gay parents Scott and Gary, who faun over the strikingly handsomeDuhamel. Sarah Burns is awesome as the social worker Janine Groff, whowarns Holly and Messer about complicating their relationship. Burns ishysterically touching as she becomes their biggest advocate. Brooke andKiley Liddell are priceless as Sophie. Though hers is not really aperformance, she is just being. There are the formulae high jinx withbaby poop and babysitting duty. Conflict is manufactured. Messer isoffered the sports TV director slot for the Phoenix Suns, which woulddisplace him from home in Atlanta. Holly starts a relationship withsolid Sam (down home charming Josh Lucas), Sophie's pediatrician. Lifeis diverging. Here in "Life as We Know It" there is an upside to predictability. Wecheer for Holly, Messer, and Sophie, because we see before they do:They are a family. Heigl and Duhamel are awesome, apart or together. They overcome a lot of the formulae. Being predictable is overrated, when you have great heart like "Life as We Know It".

Just another romantic comedy

I watched this movie because I quite like to watch romantic comediesand the plot seemed really interesting, but I'm sorry to say that I wasdisappointed by this movie. The beginning is good and it seems like something that could happen inreal life, but later on the movie turns out to be unconvincing, forexample the parts with the social worker are too crazy.I have to point out that the performance of the actors is good, theyhave good chemistry together and make the plot at least a bitbelievable. For me, this is just another ordinary romantic comedy (despite thetragic part), one of the movies that I struggled to watch till the endand I will definitely not watch it again.

Very good romantic comedy

Saw a preview of this movie at the theater and scratched it off my list. Found myself on a cross-country flight and watched it. It's funny, sad, and poignant - pretty good. I'll buy the DVD.The Bad: You can figure out the ending five minutes in. The neighbors are stereotypes. The social worker is not believeable. Geez, another race to the airport scene! The Good: Holly and Messer click together, even though it takes time (and the baby) for them to figure this out. Isn't that just like life? Lots of funny scenes involving the baby. While stereotypes, the neighbors are funny. Heigl is an excellent actress and shows a great range of emotions throughout the movie. Great pace and editing. The Best Line: From Holly's other flame, the pediatrcian, when he realizes that Holly and Messer are still connected - "If my ex-wife and I fought like that, I'd still be married".

You'll surely fall in love...with the movie

Aptly categorized as Romantic-Comedy, this movie cant stop you fromexpressing your feelings in every scene. Till the end it binds you, having laughter, joy, care and tears at the right moments. You wouldreally want to curl up on your chair and words like 'awww', 'omg', 'howsweet'...just escape from your mouth unknowingly. You suddenly realizethe importance of people you love and the void which pops up when theyare no more, which makes you want to love them even more. The plot staring with a fight, landing unexpectedly in a situationwhich isn't on the checklist for like 5 years and the way the actorssail through finally falling in love is simply worth watching...Watchout for the baby too, you would be completely drawn to her and wish, you had one like her making a smile naturally come on the face when sheis around...so pretty, so beautiful and a born actor. And readings completely do injustice to the movie, the plot and most ofall the precious baby... so don't get eluded by them.Happy watching!!!

Always Be Prepared for Surprises

This review is from: Life as We Know It (DVD) You never know when something comes along and changes the life you have set for yourself, so always look for what's around the corner.

That many clichés in a movie must be a record.

The movie may be defined as a romantic comedy but it is not reallyfunny nor do I believe it was meant to be; it is a romance, or lightdrama as I prefer to think of it. It has all the expected clichés andthe predictable situations the storyline would have you conjure up.Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhamel do as good a job as the script allows;I'd say they save the movie from doing much more poorly ratings wise.If you read the storyline or synopsis and think this a movie you'd liketo see, then you won't be disappointed, as long as you remember it is alight romantic drama, because I don't think much more could be donewith this story. It would be a mistake to try to make it funnier; thesubject matter does not lend itself too well for a comedy. Many reviewsmention how nice a couple the Heigl and Duhamel make so I won't dwellon that other than agree. The rating on IMDb is the most even andconsistent I've seen; it's spooky how little margin there is betweenhigh and low votes. I liked it and give it the average rating no less.As you'd expect, all the funny parts are in the trailers, that's it.

Despite some negative reviews... loved it

I've read the negative reviews here and I really don't understand them at all... to each his/her own I suppose. I really enjoyed this movie, yes it is similar to other romantic comedies of the same formula (girl and guy despise each other initially but love grows out of it), but sometimes having the same recipe isn't a bad thing. Its like enjoying a chocolate chip cookie recipe like your Mom used to make, you can have them over and over and you still love it. This movie still made me laugh and cry, and I will continue to like romantic comedies even if they use the same formula. If you want a sweet, endearing, funny and yet emotional movie, this is the one for you. The chemistry between Katherine and Josh is fantastic.

Good time chick flick

Perfect movie to go see with some gal pals.... lots of laughs, cried more than I expected to during the scene when it's revealed that the birth parents were killed.... thought the baby was adorable.... josh duhamel is yummy looking and charming as always by the end of the film.... laughed out loud quite a few times, which is atypical of me.... and the theater (filled with tweens, gal pals, and elderly women) clapped when the credits rolled which was sweet.... for once i didn't feel like i wasted my money to go see a movie in the theater.... won't win any awards, but it was a truly fun and enjoyable chick flick.... not disappointed at all!

Know this, romantic comedy fans.....this is a wonderful new view

Holly (Katherine Heigl) and Eric, known by his last name, Messer (JoshDuhamel) were once set up by close married friends, wife Alison(Christina Hendricks) and hubby Peter (Hayes MacArthur). The datelasted all of five minutes, as each took an instant dislike to oneanother and rang the gong. However, they have had to see each otherover the last few years, at parties and gatherings thrown by the weddedcouple. More so now that the A and P have a little girl named Sophie. Aself-described "control freak", Holly owns a gourmet food shop calledFraiche, in the Atlanta area, where she has grown interested in afrequent customer, Dr. Sam (Josh Lucas). For his part, Messer works insports television, operating cameras for the Hawks basketball franchiseand he has a new girlfriend every five minutes. Into this setting comesa shock. Alison and Peter tragically die in an automobile crash and, unbelievably, leave custody of Sophie to their unmarried pals, Hollyand Messer. After the tears and agony, the we-loathe-each-other couplerealize that they must move into their friends' large home and learnhow to take care of their new daughter, with civility. But, as both arepracticing "on the job parenting", they still have quite a fewarguments and upsets. Juggling jobs and babies is a tough job, theyquickly concede. Could it also be that, despite Dr. Sam's growingpresence and Messer's frequent galpals, that Holly and Messer willactually grow to like each other? Maybe! This is a lovely new entryinto the world of romantic comedies, for all of the genre's dedicatedfans. Despite the tried and true theme of mismatched, argumentativefolks falling in love, the movie has a few new twists, as a result ofthe adorable baby. Heigl and Duhamel are perfectly wonderful as themain couple, although both are such pros in this type of film that theyshould probably try to "branch out" in their next projects or be stuckin this kind of thing forever. The supporting cast is also very fine,as are the settings, costumes, and camera work. Add on the zestydirection and polished, humorous storyline and a winning flick emerges. Therefore, Hollywood, please send us more movies like this one, andfans, take time out from life's more mundane practices and make plansfor a view.

Pleasant Romance

In Atlanta, Holly Berenson (Katherine Heigl) is the best friend ofAllison (Christina Hendricks) and Peter Novak (Hayes MacArthur). She issingle and has just called off a three-year relationship andprofessionally she runs a bakery, is very well-organized and plans toupgrade her business to a restaurant. When her friends schedule a blinddate with Peter's best friend, TV sports director Eric Messer (JoshDuhamel), their encounter is a flop and Holly hates the recklesswomanizer Messer. However, when Allison and Peter have a fatal caraccident, the godparents Holly and Messer learn by the lawyer that theyhave been named the legal guardians of Peter and Allison's baby,Sophie, and have inherited their large house to raise the girl. Havingin common only their love for Sophie, Holly and Messer have their livesturned upside-down and need to support each other to keep the girl withthem and honor the wishes of their best friends."Life as We Know It" is a pleasant romance, despite the tragedy andpredictability of the story. I usually like the films of the gorgeousKatherine Heigl and the practically unknown Josh Duhamel is hilariousin the role of a wolf. Their chemistry is awesome, but the babiesAlexis, Brynn and Brooke Clagett steal the movie. I believe thateverybody that is experienced father or mother will recall their firstexperiences as parents and will love the troubles of Holly and Messer. My vote is seven. Title (Brazil): "Juntos Pelo Acaso" ("Together by Chance")

A Feel Good Girl-Movie

This review is from: Life as We Know It (DVD) I love that this movie is set in my home town (Georgia offers tax breaks to movie companies, so more are being filmed here), but most of all I love Melissa McCarthy's character! My husband and I rewind the "I don't touch raw meat myself...only with my lips" part over and over! She is a great addition to a nice, feel-good girl movie that actually ends happily (you can't always count on that due to the "mirror the fractured society" trends of movies right now).
