Good News, Bad News

Father-in-law Jack (DiNero) is still up to his old tricks trying tocatch Gregg Focker (Stiller) in something that is not in keeping withbeing a good father, husband, and family man in general. Gabriel Heater, an old time news radio broadcaster, used to start hisshows with, "Oh, there's good news tonight." So here we go with thegood stuff, more or less. Let's face it, the only thing funny in this movie (and the previousone) is the title. It becomes funny when someone is telling someonewhat movie they watched or which movie they may watch. Once the titleis mentioned there are chuckles all around. And, within the movie it ismentioned many times. Bet you are smiling now.(Come on Bob, it can't be that bad. There must have been some funnystuff in there) Actually, to my surprise, there was and the comedy was okay, and notoverplayed -- not LOL moments, but slow developing chuckles. Forinstance Jack's awareness of his own mortality prompts him to award thetitle of God Focker on Gregg and we hear some Godfather movie music. Ifthe script had gone that way for Gregg throughout, I think this wouldhave been hilarious, but that moment passed quickly and was forgottenexcept for a couple unfunny bits later on. I always thought that Ben Stiller was perfect for comedy not onlybecause he had good timing, but he also had that unsure of himself"what did I miss?" quizzical look on his face. Then I realized afterwatching several of his movies, he always has that frozen look on him.Got to admit, at times, it is funny. But, being a one-trick pony is notgood for comedy. However, in here, it was fine. This is a Focker movie whereby the actors didn't overplay their roles.Okay, maybe Dustin Hoffman was a bit annoying with his flamingodancing. Yeah, you heard correctly. Jessica Alba was a breath of fresh air in here. When she comes on thescene I light up all over. Owen Wilson was good, but his playing thedufus (even a rich one) is getting old.The title is somewhat misleading. The story had more to do with adultsand Gregg escaping Jack's accusations than anything to do with the kidsor little Fockers. See?There was an uncomfortable moment when Gregg (he's a nurse you know)has to inject Jack's penis with the antidote to reduce a 5-hr erectionfrom some ED medicine Jack took. And, of course, one of the kidswitnesses this. They could have gone another way with this and theydidn't, and it was uncomfortable. Hey, this is supposed to be a comedy.See what Hollywood is doing to us?So everything you read above was, for the most part, the Good News. TheBad News is that I believe the next Focker movie will be titled The GodFocker. Give me a break. Violence: No. Sex: No. Nudity: No. Sex Humor: Throughout. Language: No,but the screaming almost sounded like an F-bomb.

I'm guessing there will be a fourth and a fifth "Meet the Parents" sequel: "Stepfockers," and "Tween Fockers" or maybe even "As Long as She's Your Second Cousin, You Can Still Focker." Who knows, or cares.

likable cast but nothing else

After meeting the parents and meeting the Fockers, producers decided itwould only be appropriate to produce a third installment to the comedyseries. This time around male nurse Gaylord, aka Greg, is married toPam and the father of twins. However, things haven't changed much asPam's aging, suspicious, overprotective father Jack Byrnes wonders ifGreg really has what it takes to become the patriarch of the family, aprestigious honor he calls the "Godfocker." Will havoc and shenanigansensue? Contrived, unnecessary follow-up coasts as far as it can on thestrength of its cast, and may even provide a chuckle here and there, but really has no story to tell and no reason to exist. Not asembarrassing as it could have been, but enough already. **

Very Funny

This review is from: Little Fockers (Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo) (Blu-ray) My husband and I enjoyed this movie. It was very funny and had a great storyline. Robert De Niro and Ben Stiller are hilarious and so is the little boy. I would recommend this movie but not for young children as there are some parts of the movie that are not appropriate for children.

Fockers breed more comedy with Little Fockers

Little Fockers Plot Summary: Little Fockers proves the more things change, the more they stay the same with the latest installment of the Focker trilogy, bringing us into the world of Pam and Greg Focker (Polo and Stiller), as they deal with everyday challenges such as home construction delays, temptations at work, ex-boyfriends, twin toddlers, money problems, and in-laws. As if Greg didn't have enough to worry about with his own over-the-top parents (played by Streisand and Hoffman), he tries to prove himself worthy of the "Godfocker" position within the Byrnes family by stepping up his game to overprotective and paranoid father-in-law Jack Byrnes (DeNiro).Strengths: Star studded cast, Alba's physical comedy, Use of technologyThe already star-studded cast got bigger with the addition of veteran actors Dern, Keitel and Alba, as well as newer industry entrants Kevin Hart (as Greg's co-worker) and Colin Baiocchi (fraternal twin Henry Focker, whom you may recognize from Couples Retreat).Jessica Alba's home wrecking character Andi Garcia, while very much annoying, showed a more physically comedic side to the actress, which was a pleasant addition to the unending tribulations of Greg Focker.Although Stiller and DeNiro show physical signs of aging in this third film, the producers made an effort to introduce modern technology and social media in Little Fockers, made apparent by the use of Skype, text messaging, Google, Facebook, and YouTube. It's about time they got with the times and used these mediums as a platform to demonstrate how these tools can be entertaining or destructive in everyday life.Weaknesses: Not enough elder Fockers, miscast little Fockers The best part of the trilogy was the introduction of Greg's parents Bernie and Roz in Meet the Fockers. Although the updates on the manopause suffering Bernie and TV sex therapist Roz are funny, we only get a brief glimpse at their lives. I'd go so far as to argue that the audience would prefer to see equally as much, if not more face time with them as with the Byrnes family. Then there are the namesake little fockers, Greg and Pam's fraternal twin toddlers. About to enter the cult-like private school The Early Human School, Little Fockers attempts to show us that little Henry has undoubtedly received the Focker genes, while Samantha ("Sam") has more Byrnes bloodline in her. The two, although cute, are a bit of a stretch not only as fraternal twins, but as kin to Greg and Pam. The producers did a much better job casting Jorge (Ray Santiago) as Greg's suspected wedlock child in Meet the Fockers. These kids look nothing like their parents.Summary:While in no way the best comedy ever produced, Little Fockers did in fact entertain for the 90 or so minutes of the advanced screening at the Pavilions in downtown Denver. Although some of the jokes and storylines are getting old, the introduction of new characters and Greg's foray into the world of promoting erectile dysfunction drug Sustengo kept it fresh. True to real life, the kids say the darnedest things, such as the unforgettable, "Do girls poop from their vaginas?" and "Andi gives Daddy his boners" spoken from the mouth of little Henry Focker. It'd be great if this were the final episode in this Fockerfest, but there are no signs of that yet. What could be next, Teenage Fockers? At any rate, if they do make a 4th film, it would behoove them to incorporate the Bernie and Roz characters a little more. And is Jinxie the cat still around? Cats really must have nine lives.Originally posted on Examiner.com December 20, 2010. Go to http://exm.nr/hqlngP for the posting. For all reviews by this Examiner, go to http://exm.nr/hG6StB

In the running for the worst movie of the year if not the decade.

My wife suggested that we take in a movie after doing some shopping andbecause of the timing we chose "Little Fockers". Terrible mistake!!Can't really thing of any redeeming feature in the script, thephotography or the acting(?).First off Owen Wilson should seek a new profession - he is awful.Ben Stiller can be funny at times - but not so in this movie.Barbra Streisand used to (and may still) have a great voice - butdefinitely can't act. What was with Harvey Keitel - just a waste of his talent.Robert De Niro, while a very good actor, couldn't save this piece oftripe. Why good actors agree to take on these type of roles mystifiesme - he can't possible need the money.Speaking of money - save yours, and instead go hit your thumb with ahammer, you'll enjoy it more than the movie.

A notch down in speed and laughs...

"Little Fockers" pretty much follows in the footsteps of the previoustwo movies about the Byrnes and the Fockers. So if you enjoyed thosetwo, then you will definitely enjoy this one as well. The story is pretty straight forward and easy to follow. Greg and Pamnow have twins and are dealing with family life. Then throw in a pairof suspicious in-laws and over-sexed in-laws, mix it up with a foxytemptress (played by Jessica Alba) and you have your movie right there. There were lots of funny moments in the movie, but somehow the previoustwo movies stands more out in my memory. There were just something morehilarious about those. With the impressive cast list, the movie is hard to ignore. Robert DeNiro playing Jack Byrnes, did a good job - but of course, he alwaysdoes a good job acting. Ben Stiller, again putting on the role ofGaylord Focker, and doing the same as in the previous two movies -fighting with his father-in-law. Despite having relatively small roles, then Dustin Hoffman (playing Bernie Focker) and Barbra Streisand(playing Roz Focker) were marvelous as the parents of Gaylord Focker. The chemistry between Hoffman and Streisand is magnificent. I didn'treally care much for Owen Wilson's character, nor was his performancethat memorable. And throw in Harvey Keitel and Laura Dern for somesmall supporting roles, and they were great.I found this third installment to the Focker series to be a tad belowthe standards of the previous two. But all in all, it is still analright comedy.

Matt_Layden (2012-05-22 04:43)

Ca-ching, that was going through everyone's head.

The third instalment in the much deflated Focker series, finally seesBen Stiller have kids and DeNiro continues to mistrust him. There honestly isn't much going on here, hence the lack of trying toexplain what the film is about. It's the third time around and we seethe same stuff we've seen in the first two films. DeNiro is mistrustingof Stiller, Stiller does something stupid and has to make up for it.This time around the monkey in the wrench is that Stiller has kids. Owen Wilson comes back this time, which is playing up the same jokefrom the first film. He should be the one with her, we get it. HarveyKeitel has a small role here as well. Keitel and DeNiro should indeedteam up together again, but not in the comedy cliché, get back to thestreets and violence where you two belong. Finally it was widelyreported that Hoffman wasn't happy with the script, which is why he isabsent from most of the film. I say most because he finally agreed todo it, I guess they waved enough money in his face for him to stophating himself. His scenes a few and far between. The least funny in the three films and one of that not needed at all. There is no story to tell here. Honestly there only should have beenone film. It was funny and original at the time. Now the well is dryand Stiller needs to find another cash boat. Hopefully he doesn't makea third Night of the Museum because the second one was a big stinker. I can't tell you enough, how unfunny Little Fockers is. The film islazy, and another low for the once talented Robert DeNiro. The manhasn't made a good film in years. The last decade has been referred toas "DeNiro's Sellout" years. It's hard to argue that when he turns inan effort like this. My favourite review of this movie is from Anders Wotzke, who claimedSchindler's List was funnier than this. Funny thing is, he's right.

Embarrassing

This movie insults the movie watcher's intelligence. It is gross, stupid and moronic. We should have walked out but it was like watching a bad car accident and thank god it was pretty short. The only funny thing about it is that we went to see it. Jokes on us.

(2012-05-21 04:27)

Worst movie ever ! ! !

This review is from: Little Fockers (DVD) This is probably one of the worst movies I have ever seen... I did not laugh once. I couldn't finish the movie it was so sick and unfunny... It was so poorly written and acted by all. I don't understand how this movie ever made it to the screen and how any of these class Actors were stupid enough to even let it get released or worse yet, how could they have been so dumb to even read the lines and then think they were funny... they must have needed extra money to pay their Servants or something.... I tell you, Hollywood really takes us all for the suckers that we can be at times... thank goodness we can share our opinion... If I were them I'd fire their agent, I could get them better roles than that, geez...

Jim Vejvoda (2012-05-20 17:57)

It's tough to see your favorite actors grow old. It's even tougher to see them grow old and demean themselves in increasingly crappy movies. That's the greatest feeling (aside from displeasure) one will walk away with from Little Fockers.

Dirty Harry (2012-05-20 07:01)

It's watchable. I really mean it!

I watched this in a theater and I didn't regret it. Before that, I sawthe ratings here and read some critics, and it was bad. I went to seeit anyway, expecting nothing of it. If I could stand watching 2 hourslong The Limits of control, I can surely stand the Little Fockers. Andguess what, I liked it! I had a few laughs, the theater was full andeveryone was laughing, so, I'm a little puzzled by all this negativityon IMDb. If you liked the first two movies, you will like the third onealso. You know what you can expect of the Fockers, right? The same oldstory. I would recommend to everyone to just watch it (if you liked theothers) and then make a judgment. This ratings on IMDb are somisleading, and makes you watch bad films, or not watch the good or theperfectly watchable.

Marjorie Baumgarten (2012-05-20 11:22)

The filmmakers went to the effort of hiring Keitel to play the construction foreman on their new house and then squander his presence by giving him only a couple lines of dialogue in a total of two scenes. (He should have been paid by the syllable.)

(2012-05-19 19:55)

DeNiro should be ashamed

Whenever someone asks me who I think is a better actor, Pacino or DeNiro, I used to always say DeNiro until now. This movie is horrible and it just shows you that the studio films are about making money, period! There is no more artistic point of being anymore in studio films, and this one is atrocious! Movie Studios are now mega corporations and we all know with corporations that profits for investors comes before quility and content. I just watched a documentary about George Lucus and he said the exact same thing.

John Beifuss (2012-05-19 12:25)

Utterly formulaic but not unfunny, despite an overreliance on the comedy of below-the-belt pain (prostates and erections are particularly abused).

Liz Braun (2012-05-19 04:39)

Watching A-list actors behave like morons is not a bad way to offset the dreadful false cheer of the season.

tavm (2012-05-18 06:46)

Little Fockers starts out hilarious enough before struggling to maintain that tone straight through

Having seen the first two films in the series and liking them, I waslooking forward to Little Fockers with my movie theatre-working friend. The first hour was very funny to us both what with all the risqué jokesthat entailed but started to fall apart by the time the Jessica Albacharacter started acting real drunk and stripping when she comes on tothe married Ben Stiller character but there were still some funny linesand scenes after that, just not as much. So in summation, LittleFockers was mostly enjoyable but it's obviously run out of steam as faras series entries goes. Not to mention how that the last scene seemedcontrived to set up yet another sequel...

(2012-05-17 13:39)

Not a good sequel.

This review is from: Little Fockers (DVD) I thought that this movie was going to be as good or better than the other two which I liked very much. But, MAN was I wrong! This movie is boring, and not like the other two in spirit. This one went back and forth on idiotic, not well-thoughout scenes. I don't recommend this to anyone.

kapiniaris (2012-05-17 10:28)

Better than I had heard....

OK it's not an amazing comedy, but it's not also the terrible movie asthe most critics mention.I am a fan of Robert De Niro and Ben Stiller,Owen Wilson,so I didn't take the bad critics seriously and I wasn'tdisappointed!Once again De Niro and Ben Stiller play off each othervery well and made me laugh a couple of times...Of course I can not saythat this film is better than the original,it has a very predictablestoryline and some weak and superfluous jokes like the constant use ofthe word "Focker"(especially by De Niro).Nevertheless it is a funnymovie and not a waste of time...chiefly for those who loved the "Meetthe Fockers"...

Stephen Hinton (2012-05-16 19:01)

It really is that bad....!

So the third film in the hugely successful franchise as been thrustupon on us, but it is far from a welcome addition to the family. The main reason is it's just devoid of any originality whatsoever andis just complete recycling job of excellent first two outings and onewhere you can only use the father-son-in-law 'interrogation' theme forso long before it wears incredibly thin. Even the title 'LittleFockers' would have been a good indicator that the main objective andjokes would have centred around the kids but the truth is they havevery little screen time in the film. When screen legends of Robert DeNiro, Harvey Keitel and Dustin Hoffmanreceived the script they must have been thinking "not much to do here, except just pickup an easy pay cheque".The film also introduces a new character in the way of Andi Garcia(Jessica Alba) all I can say it's the most annoying character forcedupon us since Jar Jar Binks in the 'Phantom Menace'The only plus point to come out of the film is during it' end creditswhere there is a hilarious re-mix video. Apologies if this reviewsounds over the top but this film really is that bad and is the reasonwhy I am giving my first ever 1* rating
