Not worth your time

This movie was dul. Plain and simple. For having Will Ferell, Tina Fay and Jonah what's his name, I figured it would have been hilarious. Instead, it left me sleepy and in some parts a little disturbed. There were a few areas that seemed off for children. The one dude's shirt said bite me, the "No You Can't" poster mocking our President and others. In fact the movie was so wierd that at a certain point where the buildings were being blown up, I could not help but feel disgusted that it looked way too close to the twin towers on 9/11. I hate to go there, but tell me I am not the only one. It totally looked the same and brought my mind back into the real world that fast. This movie was just plain wierd from start to finish. Megamind???? I should have known from the title alone. All in all, C - from me.

Three dimensions or two, the one-dimensional plot has little appeal.

I have no clue whythey are rating this as a 7/10. It is worth way more then a 10 even. Icant wait to get out of college in 2 years to work for them. I loveMegamind. As a animation student, this really showed a lot ofprinciples of animation. Each Char had his or her own personality thatyou cant help to fall in love with and feel with them. The story of amega evil bad super villein turning good in the wake of the death of asuper hero is so original and really shines a light on the "what if" (Ishout all of this. but yo cant see it since it wont let me caps*

By far the worst animated movie I ever seen in 2010...

since Madeline: Lost in Paris. While I didn't want to watch Legends ofthe Guardians or Shrek Forever After, I found this to be extremelyunimaginative.First of all, it has brief references off of other movies. The wholething made me want to watch Monsters vs. Aliens and I'd never thoughtthere was going to be a redemption in this. It copied off a littlemusical piece from Up (2009). It copies off of 'Cloudy With A Chance ofmeatballs" somewhat and all in all, it copies off of anime such as FullMoon o Sagashite. Where aliens/spirits turn into humans... WAIT! Aliensversus Spirits? O.K., that could be the weirdest thing I ever saw. Thismovie is a copycat.I've been wanting to see this movie for months now and I asked my momto borrow her money to check out this movie and I nearly walked out ofthe theater during half of the movie. When you see the part whereMegamind releases Roxanne, walk out of the theater and ask for arefund. It isn't worth it. Not even twenty minutes could make peopleget in touch with the movie.I came home and told my mom that I hated it and started writing onsidewalks "Megamind Sucks" like a mischievous boy. Please avoid this movie at all costs and wait until it comes out onBlu-ray and DVD. And I also forgot that this movie probably literallycopied off of Despicable Me while it was in progress (Bad turns intoGood). Anyways, please do not watch this even if I do write on yoursidewalks. Ignore it! And watch Jackass instead,

Some villains are born to be heroes.

Megamind, the big-headed alien always picked the last and took forgranted while his rival Metroman was the school popular and thehandsome boy who everyone wanted to be his friend are always in aconflict and everyone favoring Metroman, Megamind takes this chance tobe a villain and extract revenge upon his rival.Seeing the cast was quite the surprise seeing Will Farrell, Brad Pittand Tina Fey, while i'm a huge fan of Farrell i went to this movie andit was really good, voice acting is top notch, the comedy stands outand i really liked the soundtrack since most of the songs areold-school.This movie is recommended for everyone you will laugh and Will Farrellwill draw smiles on the audience, if you get the chance to see it in 3Dthen go for it since the action scenes are powerful and breathtaking.

Average

This review is from: Megamind (Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo) (Blu-ray) I'm glad I didn't pay an exorbitant amount of money to see this in the theaters- the movie itself is merely average. It almost works as a superhero movie, but really doesn't hold up as a comedy. I usually laugh out loud at least once or twice during Will Ferrell movies merely due to the completely random absurdity of what he says, but most of his voice-over work in this movie seemed forced and just was not funny. The blu-ray package itself is about par for the course these days for animated movies- it contains a bonus short film and the requisite documentaries, etc, as well as a DVD to keep the kids occupied on long car rides. Overall, maybe worth a purchase if you or your kids are big into superheroes and/or Will Ferrell, otherwise I can't really recommend it.

I made you a hero, you did the fool thing ALL BY YOURSELF!

Supervillain Farrell seeks purpose after fulfilling his only focus inlife… defeating his nemesis, superhero Pitt. The bad guy is painted asthe protagonist and the good guy as the antagonist in this interestinglittle outing from Pixar, but the laughs are few and far between--andsome of those are complete misses. Most disappointing is the lack ofenergy it imparts for an animated action-packed family film. You'dfigure there'd be something a little more philosophically humble whenthe person you're supposed to be rooting for is driven to chaos, nomatter how light-hearted or comedic… especially when children are thetarget audience! No doubt this was just a paycheck for the A-listactors.**½ (out of four)

What it lacks in inventiveness, 'Megamind' makes up in wit, intelligence, and customarily gorgeous animation.

Peter Rainer (2012-05-18 16:49)

No doubt some of it is charming enough to induce giggles in its preteen target audience... What's needed is a narrative invention to match the technical invention.

Mega Fun

Megamind is hillarious a new twist to the superhero story. What happens when the supervillian wins. He becomes the hero. this movie has an all star voice cast. this is a great movie if you have not seen it then recommend that you do

Hardly a knockout, but Megamind is an immensely enjoyable animated adventure that spoofs and pays homage to the superhero genre.

One of the BEST DreamWorks Movies

This review is from: Megamind (Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo) (Blu-ray) DreamWorks was able to pull it self back up a second time after the release of Kung Fu Panda. MegaMind is a brilliantly made movie with a great story and a great message tailored for people of all ages. I will not ruin the movie but its a definite MUST see and a keeper for ones collection.

What happens when the supervillain unexpectedly wins?

Megamind is something of a mix, but a good one. On the one hand, it takes the existing traditional tropes of comic-book superhero and supervillain and works within them, but at the same time it ventures into territory that one rarely sees, going one step beyond the traditional to answer two questions: (1) What really makes a supervillain truly 'bad'? and (2) What happens when the supervillain unexpectedly wins? The film starts off with a traditional hook - Megamind apparently falling to his doom - and then flashes back to the beginning, with the origins of the two classic protagonists, superhero Metro Man and supervillain Megamind, each sent out as an infant in a spacepod from their respective doomed homeworlds. From there, however, things begin to take a twist. Megamind is the supervillain, but more from bad luck than anything else (Metro Man's pod lands in a mansion where he is adopted by rich parents who give him everything, Megamind's pod on the other hand lands in a penitentiary where he is adopted by the inmates). Megamind doesn't become a supervillain so much out of evil as much as lack of options, his main talent apparently being wreaking havoc and scaring the hell out of people. He and Metro Man become enemies/rivals in a series of confrontations where, in Megminds own words "Our battles quickly got more elaborate. He would win some, I would ALMOST win others!".And, in classic comic-book tradition, a plucky news reporter, Roxanne Ritchie, and her hapless and socially inept camerman, Hal Stewart, are always on the scene when one of Megamind's schemes unfolds, with the result that Roxanne gets abducted so many times that it becomes almost routine ("Alligators, yeah, mm-hmm. I was thinking about it on the way over...").But things take an unexpected twist when, in spite of all the glitches, Megamind's scheme actually works and Metro Man is apparently destroyed, leaving only a skeleton bearing his cape behind. At first Megamind is ecstatic, but after only a few days the supervillian finds himself at a loss as to what to do next. What _does_ a supervillain do when he has no superhero to challenge or to be challenged by?In his existiential angst, Megamind unexpectedly ends up talking to Roxanne, albeit disguised as Bernard, a museum attendent at the Metro Man Museum. From her, he gets the inspiration to create a new superhero to restore the balance in his life. Unfortunately his plan goes hideously awry when the recipient of his superhero formula turns out to be Hal, Roxanne's inept and all too flawed camerman. And once again the story turns back to the question of just what makes a supervillain truly bad. Hal isn't evil per se, but he is lazy, petulant, completely self-centered and prone to tantrums when he doesn't get his way. Highly destructive tantrums once he discovers that he, as the intended new superhero Titan, has powers that put him beyond anyone else's control. Jonah Hill as the voice of Hal/Titan manages to perfectly bring out these serious flaws in Titan's character that result in Titan becoming a far more menacing threat to society than the ostensibly 'evil' Megamind ever was.Craftsmanship-wise, everything in Megamind works well. The animation is colorful and eye-catching, the character design superb, and the voice actors distinctive and entertaining (Will Ferrell as Megamind, Brad Pitt as Metro Man, Tina Fey as Roxanne Ritchie, Jonah Hill as Hal Stewart/Titan, and David Cross as Minion). There are also a lot of references and in-jokes worked in, some fairly obvious (Minion's exo-suit with the diving helmet head and gorilla-like body are a direct take from the classicly-bad scifi film Robot Monster) and fairly subtle (the museum attendant Bernard is voiced by Ben Stiller, who played a museum guard named Bernard in the two Night At The Museum movies).Though the film was released at the theaters in 3D, you won't miss a thing seeing it on a DVD. Quite frankly, the whole 3D thing is a waste in most movies that have come out with it and Megamind is no exception.Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys good animation with entertaining characters and story.

Ferrell's comic talents push this into the positive

Yes, I know, another stunt-cast animated feature that's sure to appealto adults as well as to kids. But it's because of that supposed stuntcasting that Megamind works, at least to some degree. Will Ferrell andTina Fey, along with Brad Pitt, own their roles and imbue them withpurpose and personality. The animation itself is standard, and thestory is simply steady, but everyone involved appears to be having ablast.Megamind (Ferrell) is an evil mastermind whose plotting never pans out.He lives in Metro City (which he amusingly pronounces "Metr-ocity,"rhyming with "atrocity"), which is defended by the saint-like Metroman(Pitt). Both hero and villain came to Earth from faraway planets butdiverging destinies, and they've been fighting each other almost sincetheir arrival. But every battle ends the same – Megamind is capturedand jailed, and later he escapes and begins the feud anew. Until, thatis, the day when he finally does defeat Metroman and thus loses hispurpose in life. I'm sure we can all sort of relate to that.Other characters include a chirpy reporter named Roxanne Ritchie (TinaFey), who's close to Metroman, and Hal Stewart (Jonah Hill), acameraman who wants to be close to Roxanne. They make unlikely alliesand adversaries, and not always with each other. They are also playedto opposite degrees of success; Fey is as likable and adorable asalways, but Hill is just flat as the doting cameraman. You'd think thatwould be right up his alley, but a change in character midway throughdoesn't feel sincere, and it's mostly because Hill himself lacks thepoise and panache to pull it off effectively.Fey and Ferrell work very well together here, which shouldn't be toosurprising. They're both comic talents, and they know their timingwell. But there's this, too: there's a fine line between being funnyand being hammy, and it's easy to jump over that line for most comicactors. Give them too much rope, they chew the scenery with it, to mixtwo completely unrelated metaphors. Each actor has a lot of fun withhis or her character (it wouldn't surprise me if there had been someimprov involved) without running amok with it. That helps the so-soscript and plot devices. Also helping: David Cross as a fish-like alienwho came to Earth with Megamind and has been his loyal sidekick eversince. He's named Minion for some reason. (Yes, I am kidding.)

I'm afraid Megamind does not save the day.

Now it is time for DreamWorks to have a stab at a cartoon hero, andafter Pixar's brilliant The Incredibles this film can only be doomed tofailure. I am pleased to announce that although nowhere near as good asThe Incredibles it is still half decent.Megamind is an alien, sent down to Earth as a baby due to his planetbeing destroyed. Along with Megamind another baby is sent down to Earthfrom an opposing planet. Megamind lands in a prison, being raised bycriminals and the other baby lives the life of luxury in a manor house. As they grow up they become rivals with Megamind adopting the villainpersona and the other adopting the hero, Metro Man.The two battle out with Metro Man always coming out on top, untilMegamind finally succeeds in killing him. After this he then realisesthat life is no good without a hero to fight, so decides to create onefor his own, Titan. Although Titan doesn't work out according to planand due to jealousy becomes evil, leaving Megamind to become the heroand save the day.The story does work and there are several hints to outside influencessuch as Superman, the vulnerable reporter, and Frankenstein, thecreation of a monster. The film is very much a super hero in reverseand at times does employ the tired tactics but seeing as this is achildren's film at heart, it was never going to go any deeper. Thepremise is good and, although recently Despicable Me took a similarpremise, seems original but I think a lot of that is done through thevoice work provided by the actors.Ferrell is very good as the voice of Megamind, delivering his typicalcomedic role which I'm sure most was ad-libbed. Jonah Hill is fantasticas Titan, really bringing the character out into a three dimensionalworld and Fey is fine as the reporter, Roxanne Ritchie but the star ofthem all is David Cross playing Megamind's sidekick Minion. Thecharacter has some of the best lines and considering he is a fish in ahelmet attached to a robot, his facial expressions are brilliant. The film employs a lot of comedy but unfortunately I never really foundmyself in hysterics. Many of the gags used have been played in thetrailer and others were more aimed at kids. Considering other brilliantanimated films like Shrek also appealed to adults perhaps a superherofilm could have done to. This film does not live up to its predecessorsfrom DreamWorks and Pixar, so if you are going to the cinema to seeanother Toy Story than you will be disappointed. I know you shouldn'tjudge movies on others but with so many fantastic animated films outthere than we can't help but. The problem with this movie is it doesn'tlive up to the hype of any other animated film at this time, which is ashame due to the great cast. It just feels like something is missingfrom this film as I could only connect towards the end. The end scenesare great but the ones leading up to it just seem a little dull attimes and it's hard to empathise with Megamind until the end, so hewill never be a remembered cartoon character like Shrek. There you gocomparing again. The film is worth a watch for some light hearted entertainment and Ithink kids would love it but for me it was just a mediocre cartoonalongside some brilliant animated films.

Too cheesy

I realize that not every cartoon movie can be of the same quality as"How to train your dragon" or "Wall-e", but come on. They recruitedsuch high profile actors as Will Ferrel and Brad Pitt for the voices,so animation and jokes must be accordingly funny as well as touchingelements of the plot. Besides first part of the movie - the idea ofsuper villain beating super hero, looks nice, but afterwards it looksdown the hill. Animation is mediocre at very best. It can't be comparedto previously mentioned cartoons neither by quality of animation nor bythe level of interest of it's characters (beside megamind himself). Onthe plus side, it's a nice cartoon to take the kids to.

Really good

If you like watching animations, you really need watch this movie. Ican clearly advice this movie without any doubt and stars like BradPitt, Will Ferrell dubbing the movie, and i can clearly say that theydid some kind of awesome job because, dubbing is really good. Story ofthe movie is out of ordinary it can really make you surprise, it lookslike a ordinary story but it is much more different from ordinary ones.Graphics are better than a average animation, musics of the film iswell selected, they can really put you in mood. As a conclusion, thismovie can give you more than what you want from a ordinary animation...you won't regret.
