This review is from: Monte Carlo (+ Digital Copy) [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray) I saw this in theaters and i must say a very good movie probably because i love selena but i still pre ordered
No one would mistake this film for a future classic. It is simple andsometimes silly, but for its target audience it works very well. Before I saw this movie I had very little exposure to Selena Gomez. Iknew vaguely who she was, and that is all. After watching the movie Icame away impressed. In actuality she has to play three roles. Thefirst is her character, Grace. The second is Grace pretending to besomeone else. And third, that other character. The last two may seem tobe the same, but they aren't. She has to play them all slightlydifferent to make it seem believable. And, I think she pulls it offvery well.Selena Gomez as Grace goes with her friend and her step sister toParis. But at one stop the tour bus that seems more intent on keeping aschedule than anything else leaves them. Then, Grace gets mistaken forher look-alike, a wealthy British girl Cordelia Winthrop Scott. Seeingthis as their way to get out of a pinch, she goes along with it andthey all end up in Monte Carlo. There the situations develop moreseriously.Mostly a fun movie, entertaining in a very light manner.
Monte Carlo was fun, fun and more fun! I loved this movie from the start. As Grace (Selena Gomez), Emma (Katie Cassidy) and Meg (Leighton Meester), race around in Paris then head off to Monte Carlo on a whim, I couldn't wait to see what would happen next. As a graduation present from her parents, Grace receives a trip to London, but that's not all. Grace's parents are also generously sending her best friend Emma and her step-sister Meg along on the trip. The excitement soon dies down once they get to Paris and later end up with sore feet in a seedy hotel room. They decide to book with a tour group and that is when all the fun begins. At first Emma races around ridiculously in her high heeled shoes on the tour as Grace tries to keep the peace between her friend and step-sister. After being left behind by the fast-paced tour group, the girls enter an expensive hotel. It is at this hotel that Grace's looks match exactly to the likes of a high class wealthy lady staying at the same hotel. Soon Grace is being waited on hand and foot and all the action begins. Anyone that has been on a vacation for the first time or to a new destination for the first time can relate to this film. I could relate with this film as I had a similar experience traveling with new friends for the first time to a new destination. Just as in this film you have different personalities thrown together and crazy experiences going on and then there are the boys. Finding love in another country is just plain exciting and so romantic. Monte Carlo has this and so much more. I give this movie 5 stars and recommend it to all you girls out there looking for a movie that includes fun, finding true friendship and romance all wrapped up in a pretty package. This movie, however, is not just a chick-flick. My husband watched the movie with me and he too laughed with me from the start.
This review is from: Monte Carlo (DVD) I bought this for my granddaughter for Christmas. DVD arrived sooner than expected. Smooth transaction all the way around. it was so convienient to buy online. Will buy from Amazon again.
It's a great movie for any age! I bought it for my grand daughter but i watched it as well.
Starring Selena Gomez, and definitely targeted to teens, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie in spite of myself. Three teenage girls become unlikely companions on a trip to France which leads them into some unexpected situations. Predictable? Yes. Boring? Never. It is a brain vacation indeed, and ten years from now I will probably loathe this movie and loathe myself for having enjoyed it, but for me it was upbeat fun. It at least has the depth of the classic "Roman Holiday" and, for the moment anyway, is at least just as much fun.
This review is from: Monte Carlo (Amazon Instant Video) I only paid $0.99 to watch this movie, and I want my money back. This is the most idiotic, boring movie ever. If you want your young daughter or teen to watch this, pls dont do it. Little women is 1 million time better.
I loved this movie about 3 Texas girls on vacation in Europe. It was light-hearted, clean and entertaining. Pretty much any girl of any age would enjoy watching it. The scenery is neat too...especially when they are in Monte Carlo. Selena Gomez IS a sweet, down-to-earth girl from Texas so she played that part really well. As far as her acting out the part of the snobby heiress (her "double" in the movie)- her accent/acting wasn't really believable lol. Overall, it was a very entertaining movie, Selena was wonderful, and i would definitely watch it again sometime.
My grandchildren and I love Selena Gomez and really enjoy watching movies she has been in. We really enjoyed this movie and I definitely recommend it.
This review is from: Monte Carlo (DVD) Sorry but need to share that my movie was suppose to arrive 11/15/11 and today is 11/28/11 and I'm still waiting for it.
This review is from: Monte Carlo (DVD) loved all the sites of paris/monte carlo. just mindless good clean fun chic flick. i'm going to france in may and loved watching scenes plus the antics they get into. i'm really liking leighton meester more and more.plot was alittle lame but with all the eye candy, who cares?
This was a really cute movie probably aimed at teens. It was not meant to be high art, so I'm rating it for delivering a good job for what it was intended to be: a cute and well written story about 3 nice and likeable Texas girls, mostly set in wonderful, romantic European settings, and just a lot of fun overall. All three actresses were quite good and this was a nice afternoon escape film. It was nice to see a teen film that was pretty positive and wholesome for a change, not too old for its intended audience. I saw this in a theater mostly full of mid to late teen girls, and they all seemed to be enjoying it a lot.
Unlike some IMDb reviewers I can watch a movie and understand whatdemographic it is for and enjoy it for that demographic and review itfairly. Obviously Monte Carlo was not written for my demographic butthere has been plenty of "Disney" type pre-teen "Chick flicks" that Ihave thoroughly enjoyed for what they are. Monte Carlo doesn't reallyfit that bill very well. The movie has a decent, well liked, andpopular lead cast, lovely European locations, a funny comedic plot butnone of it really takes off. I would have liked to have seen moreslapstick laugh out moments and better chemistry with the cast wouldhave made this far better than what it was. I think I expected the filmto fit the demographic of pre-teen...12-14 year olds but instead, atbest, this is made for 10-12 year olds.Selena Gomez plays her dual roles in the film as down to earth likableGrace, and the uppity, snotty, entitled Cordelia. She actually does asolid job in both roles but she is one of the people I expected morelaughs from and that never really happens. Katie Cassidy plays Grace'sbest friend. I thought she sort of didn't fit in the cast very well. Ilike Cassidy in certain roles but this one just didn't fit her and shedidn't have great chemistry with Gomez. Leighton Meester is okay asGomez's step-sister. Meester is a great actress but I don't think hercharacter has much depth and she comes across as very unlikable for themost part. The supporting cast including Andie MacDowell and CoryMonteith are okay in their roles but far from noticeable or stand outin their performances. Even the romantic story lines are rather weakbecause the male romantic leads are completely forgettable.I would imagine that young girls will still get a kick out of the filmbut it could have been a whole lot more given the positive aspects ofthe film. I would say that the film's lack of impression was due toco-writer and director Thomas Bezucha lack of experience but he did anexcellent job on his previous film "The Family Stone" but I still thinkthis wasn't necessarily the right project for him because I think thescript lacked real depth and the execution of the film lacked punch. While there are some fun moments and some amusing laughs, overall thisone is definitely avoidable. There are just too many better films forthe same demographic. 6/10
Monte Carlo is a teen version of the Prince and the Pauper with girl friends. Be forwarned--This is a Disney-like formula for the teen crowd. A few years ago, it would have Hillary Duff, Miley Cyrus or Lindsay Lohan playing the female lead instead of Disney star from Wizards of Waverly Place's Selina GomezThis film had been done before in a wayt in the Disney Lizzie McGuire movie. Funny, Who says? (the Lizzie McGuire movie theme song) is sung by Gomez on the end credits. Before you get to the end credits, you get a lovely plot of sibbling rivally between two step sisters (Gomez and Gossip Girl's Leighton Meester) who dont respect each other and their parents send them to Paris together. Gomez's waitress friend Emma (Katie Cassidy) joins their trip. It seems almost like a modern day, Europian "Where the Boys are"!The threesome miss their tour bus in Paris. Gomez also plays a look-a-like monster socialite who is a brat. Gomez is mistaken for the heiress. The threesome take her hotel since the socialite goes on a unplanned spree. The threesome then ventures to Monte Carlo in the socialite's place and plot gets predictable..but it is fun in a Disney-ish, Frank Capra like wayThere are big names in small roles in this film. Glee's Cory Montieth is Emma's boyfriend who searches Paris for the trio. His four scences of the film is short at best, but longer than a cameo. Dr Who's Catherine Tate steals the end of the film in her cameo. However Jane by Design's Andie MacDowell and Make It or Break it's Brett Cullen appearances are wasted as Gomez's and Meetser's parents in this movie. The direction is similar to a modern day Disney Teen adventure...something you may get on ABC family channel. It works and it succeeds on many levels. Its formula, but adults who want to watch something with their teens, other than Pretty Little Liars, will have a GREAT TIME watching this because the films does not talk down to the audience..i do mean it. It is formula that we have all seen before but it is intelligently presented. Its fun in a four star way!Bennet PomerantzAUDIOWORLD
Grace (Selena Gomez), a small town Texas girl has been saving up for 4 years through High School to go to Paris. She is excited about going with her friend Emma (Katie Cassidy) who seems to be a bit of a floozy- shoes she says, "If they ain't hurtin' they ain't helpin'. However Dad wants her to take along her step sister Meg (Leighton Meester)who is not exactly welcomed as she looks too much like Kristen Stewart with the blood drained out of her and acts about the same. The three are in Paris having a miserable time because their tour is inanely rushing them. It isn't long before they become separated. Grace is mistaken for Cordelia Winthrop Scott, British heiress and the 3 Cinderellas end up in Monte Carlo, dressed up and going to a ball. At this point the plot is pretty well established. The acting was less than expected, as was the script. Comedy is very light. This is perhaps a young teen female movie. Originally Nicole Kidman and Julia Roberts were supposed to star in this film, but the producers wanted a younger cast...guess how that worked out? No bad language, so sex, no nudity. Drop the girls off and go.
i found this film to be entertaining and funny . i went to see it withthe least expectations .selena Gomez is a good actress and she broughtback the times when we used to admire teen actresses and take themseriously . actresses like Christina Ricci and Brooke shields when theywere teens . there are few deep messages in the film . about honesty ,money . love and friendship .also i would like to say that thecinematography was wonderful and it was a big promotion for MonteCarloarts with funny absurd situations like some cultural differencefunny moments in France and how some hotels aren't up to standardsthere when they are being advertised in the best way possible . . butthe way it develops the story is admiring. all in all i recommend thisfilm for anyone anytime . it is a feel good funny romantic flick .
All my children love this movie (ages 7 to 15). It is fun and clean, a great add to our movie library.
This review is from: Monte Carlo (DVD) Gave this as a gift which received rave reviews. The DVD has repeatedly been viewed at the girls slumber parties and shared with family and friends. A hit.
This review is from: Monte Carlo (Amazon Instant Video) I don't know about you..but as a mom to a 7 year old girl, I get tired of watching cartoons all the time. Sometimes, I just like to watch a movie with real actors. I saw this movie with my daughter and it was cute and fun! In fact, it sparked a great conversation about Paris and traveling. We made a plan to go there together after she graduates high school! I thought this was a clean movie (other than one of the characters using the word "ass") that was suitable for my daughter. The scenery was breathtaking and we enjoyed it very much!
i read the other reviews here, and got a bit annoyed. really, what werethey expecting?! it's a movie aimed at the under 15 set! i took mydaughters, 12 and 14, to see this at the local multi plex yesterday toescape the lovely Oklahoma heat... we came out happy. the girls lovedit and so did i. it's so hard to find something these days anyway, whatwith all the sex and violence... yes, this plot has been done before.so what! i like this take on it, it was just FUN. and really, what moredo you want on a summer day than a fun movie? i've already added thisto our netflix quere so we can see it again, and probably again (knowing my girls). if you are looking for a nice movie to take theunder 15 girly set to, this is it. as a parent, you won't cringe atanything, and that's nice really... i cringed so much at that mikemyers cat in the hat debacle, i thought i would stay that way!
