Kelso won the heart of my golden girl

First of all, I have to say that this movie is sexy and funny. Butthese are not the main reasons why you should see this. Ashton Kutcherand Natalie Portman are the reason. Especially the latter. For me,Natalie Portman is the best actress around. I absolutely love her.Ashton Kutcher is one the best comedian and charismatic actors around. He is confident, good-looking and -talking, so it's a near perfectmatch. Although the subject in the movie is very much about sex, weactually see few scenes of actual sex on screen. But it doesn'tdecrease the value of the movie. What can I say is that, if there wouldbe any other two stars on the screen, the movie would get a lowerrating from me, but as I said, they have picked the best bits.Ashton Kutcher will almost certainly be remembered as Michael Kelsofrom the famous TV-series. A great character. And it's nice to see thathe has an excellent taste for women.

Boring and stupid and rude

I gave it a 2.This simply sucks for a movie. It drags on far too long and the dialogue and characters are dull asbeans.Ashton sucks as a lead and the story doesn't help.Totally unrealistic.Totally uninteresting and a waste of my download on netflix.I'm glad that this came as a monthly package in my bill and that Ididn't have to actually pay for this. How I long for real plots and stories that actually entertain.

It was much better than I expected

This review is from: No Strings Attached (Amazon Instant Video) True, I'd just finished watching the terrible film, Life As We Know It, and so my expectations were in the Pits of Hell but still...this was much better than I expected. Natalie Portman and Ashton had very little credible chemistry but the film was still pretty good. I did smile a few times and they were both individually charming.

No Strings Attached

I thought the movie was ok, but found the story line a little difficult to follow. I think we all know where this movie was heading, and I was looking forward to seeing how it got there. I wouldn`t recommend it as a guide!Apart from this movie, I received this package from Amazon some 5 days before they told me it should arrive, so thanks Amazon, well done!

Silly and Incoherent Plot, but Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher Make the Film Worth

Fifteen years ago, Adam Franklin (Ashton Kutcher) and Emma Kurtzman(Natalie Portman) meet each other in a colony and every now and thenthey stumble on each other. In the present days, Emma is an MIT graduated doctor and Adam is thestage assistant of a TV musical show and aspirant screenplay writer. When Adam visits his father Alvin (Kevin Kline), who is a successful TVproducer, and finds that his ex-girlfriend Vanessa (Ophelia Lovibond)has moved to Alvin's house and is dating him, he gets totally drunk andcalls every girl in his cell phone's contact list. On the next morning,he wakes up at Emma's apartment and they have quick sex. Emma does notwant to have any emotional involvement and proposes a relationshipdriven by sex only without romance or commitment. But love is notpossible to be rationalized and the couple is affected by theirbehavior."No Strings Attached" is a romantic comedy with a silly and incoherentplot since the motives for the behavior of Emma are not well developedand she becomes an inconsistent lead character. The story is visiblyinspired on the adorable "When Harry Met Sally…", with elements of Gleeand spiced with sex. However, the film is cute and the chemistry between the lovely NataliePortman and the pleasant Ashton Kutcher make the film worth. I believethat a high percentage of viewers love Natalie Portman and it is apleasure to see this talented actress in any movie. Kevin Kline has a small part but is also hilarious. This is the firsttime that I pay attention in Lake Bell and she is really a beautifulwoman performing the role of a clumsy and nerd character. Howeverseveral support characters are neither funny nor interesting. My voteis seven.Title (Brazil): "Sexo Sem Compromisso" ("Sex Without Commitment")

The Film Does Not Follow Through

No Strings Attached is a romantic comedy film starring Natalie Portmanand Ashton Kutcher together with Cary Elwes and Kevin Kline.ElizabethMeriwether's screenplay is about two friends that decide to make a pactto have sex with "no strings attached".The film is directed by IvanReitman. In this romantic comedy,Emma and Adam are life-long friends who almostruin everything by having sex one morning. In order to protect theirfriendship, they make a pact to keep their relationship strictly casualor "no strings attached." that means no jealousy, no expectations, nofighting, no flowers, no baby voices. It means they can do whateverthey want, whenever they want, in whatever public place they want, aslong as they don't fall in love. Can you have sex without love gettingin the way? And can their friendship survive?Your guess is as good asmine in the end.The movie disappoints in a way that it presents an original idea butdoes not follow through in the end as it concludes in a clichéd andpredictable way just like most romcoms. It benefits from the presenceof the talented Natalie Portman despite her lack of chemistry withAshton Kutcher due to not being on level with the former in terms ofacting capabilities.Worse, the theme presented isn't really that modernas people already were into casual sex back in the 1970's.Too bad thatthe film decided to end to everyone's expectations. But nevertheless, itremains entertaining due to Portman's presence alone.

How RomComs should be done!

Let me start by saying that I wanted to watch this movie againimmediately after it ended. Not only is there a plethora of one-liners that we will relive with ourfriends for years to come (think of the timeless quips from SuperTroopers, Anchorman, and The Hangover), but also a deep story line.Normally, that would turn me off, I like my comedies to be funny and Idon't wanna think about too much. But the characters are so entrancingand relatable that you want to know the back stories, you care aboutthese people and their relationship, you live their feelings and don'tmind. The story was different than I had expected from seeing previewsand at first I was apprehensive. Apart from a couple intimate scenes, Idid not revisit this feeling after getting pulled in.The Soundtrack completely rocked, including an awesome rendition of "99Problems" by Hugo, and old school favorites, like "Bleeding Love" whichget's a great scene with Natalie Portman that will have you cryingthrough your laughter and feeling right along with her. On that note,ALL of the characters are really engaging, you want to be friends withall of these people, and the parts are played SO well! Even the bits.Overall, this was just an amazing experience. I love this movie, willown it, and buy it again of I lose it.

This movie ruined my relationship!!!

I'll tell you why; we sat down tonight...looking for a new movie onNetflix to watch (which, if you have Netflix, you already know thatfinding anything remotely like a New Release is like finding a book inMike Tyson's house...not gonna happen).Anyway...we found this little treasure of a movie...premise looked OK,and I figured Ivan Reitman wouldn't stoop so low to put Kutcher in adecent movie unless he knew what he was doing, right? Wrong. This movie was so bad, that I think my girlfriend hates me now, cuz Ipressured her to sit through it with me. I am not even sure why...Ijust know that I can't start something and not finish it. It's mynature.Anywho...neither one of these clowns in this flick could act their wayout of a paper bag. It was scary. the only mildly amusing character wasthe geeky assistant chick that kept hitting on him.My god, man....who the hell are these morons giving this movie apositive review? Are you high????Movie was poorly acted, terribly predictable, and it literally seemslike someone handed the script to a 7 year old and said..."make it yourown, kiddo."I would not wipe my filthy dogs dookie-stained butt with this movie. The End.

Light hearted movie

This review is from: No Strings Attached (Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo + Digital Copy) (Blu-ray) The movie was good. I like Ashton but not sure if I would have casted Natalie Portman for the female role. But in any case the movie was good however I am not sure of the ending. Maybe I missed the point of what they were doing. I will watch it a couple more times to let it sink in.

Troy_Campbell (2012-05-18 15:40)

Indifferent.

It has been said by many filmmakers and critics that the only thingworse than a movie you hate is a movie you feel nothing for, one way oranother. Ivan Reitman's latest effort unfortunately fits into thatmould a little too well. I didn't dislike this new age rom-com, it hasits moments, but I left the cinema pondering whether I should get somedinner after eating so many M&Ms and didn't give this film a secondthought until I sat down to write this.Even now, considering what I should mention in this review, I amfinding it hard to pinpoint what was actually good or bad about NoStrings Attached; the whole affair was just so indifferent. ElizabethMeriwether's screenplay was occasionally witty but never strayed fromthe typical 'boy-meets-girl, boy-loses-girl, boy-gets-girl' template.Reitman plays it safe behind the camera, a shame for the man who wasresponsible for comedy gold of the Ghostbusters, Stripes and Meatballsilk. It would be easy to say this work is below Portman, because it is. Shebrings her normal allure to the proceedings, but ultimately doesn'thave enough to sink her teeth into. On the other hand, Kutcher looksright at home as the affable goof. He's on autopilot for sure, althoughif this is as far as his acting chops stretch then good on him forriding the wave for as long as possible. Kline and Elwes addexperience, if not excitement, whilst young blood Gerwig and Thirlbyshow glimpses of why they're on the up in Hollywood.I didn't feel attached to No Strings in any way.2.5 out of 5 (1 - Rubbish, 2 - Average, 3 - Good, 4 - Great, 5 -Brilliant)

Strings of Awkward Romantic Comedy

Natalie Portman comes out of award season on top with her numerous BestActress Awards for her performance in "Black Swan" including theCritic's Choice Award, the Golden Globe Award and an Oscar in the nearfuture. Now she takes on the romantic comedy genre for the first timesince her 2004 hit "Garden State". Her costar Ashton Kutcher on theother hand is no stranger to the romantic comedy genre with most of hisrecent films falling into this genre ("Killers", "Valentine's Day", and"What Happens In Vegas"). Together they create comedy through theawkwardly realistic chemistry between their characters Emma and Adam.Their quirky relationship begins when they are both sexually frustratedteenagers at summer camp. This leads them to becoming acquaintancesthroughout the early years of their relationship until they are throwninto each other's lives for the last time. Emma is a successful doctorwho works eighty hours a week and is not looking for a relationship, while Adam is an aspired writer looking for a break working at a"gleeish" television show. Their latest encounter leads the two into asexual dilemma as they make a pact to enter into a relationship with"No Strings Attaches" in other words no commitment, just sex. However, eventually the strings have to be attached. The best part of the film is the surprisingly accurate and realisticinteractions that Emma and Adam together. They are definitely notfaking it as they recreate relationship situations by acting weirdaround each other, which is exactly what you do when you are in arelationship. Their supporting cast was also very important to theentertainment of the film and the theme of differentiation betweenrelationships. The most notable character being Kevin Klines portrayalof Adam's father Alvin as he dates his own son's ex-girlfriends. Thefilm is all about comedy aspect of all of these relationships andleaves out drama for the most part without totally forgetting about it.This does not change the fact that the film has a very touching endingno matter how cliché it is.If it wasn't for the great casting of Portman and Kutcher at the centerof the film creating superb chemistry all would be lost among everother rom-com. This is because the film isn't original at all. It isjust a basic Hollywoodized picture perfect romantic comedy, butsometimes a movie just barely lucks out when a couple stars are able tosalvage the overdone cliché storyline. Many may say that the film is too similar to the recent release of"Love and Other Drugs" just a few months ago. However, no matter howsimilar the basic plot structure of these two films is, they are verydifferent films. While "Love and Other Drugs" follows the purely sexualrelationship of its two main characters in the same way that "NoStrings Attached" does, it also delves into the realms of the genre ofdrama. On the other hand "No Strings Attached" avoids those depths andinstead relies on the awkward comedy of romantic see it now bliss.

No Strings Attached

Classic romantic comedy except this time the guy falls in love with a girl who doesn't want to have a relationship... In the end, just like with all romantic comedies, they wind up together after she realizes she doesn't want to be without him. Awwww. Predictable (obviously) but still entertaining. Nothing to write home about, but Natalie Portman does a great job at being lovable.

TxMike (2012-05-15 22:53)

Profane in its concept, even the "cute" actors don't make this a worthwhile film.

There was a time not long ago when dialog in movies pointed you to whatmight be happening, and the rest was formed in your own mind. You couldmake it as clean or as profane as you wanted. Not anymore, even thecute blond 20-something script writer for this movie spells everythingout, with very base descriptions of body parts and body functions. Itmay work for teenagers but it doesn't work for thoughtful adults. Itmakes the whole movie come across as profane and dirty just for thesake of "dirty."Then there is the overall concept, that it is just fine and normal fortwo long-time friends, now adults, to just hook up for casual sex anytime either of them is horny, because that serves the same function asa good bowel movement when you are bloated. I am disappointed that fineactors chose to play these roles. The critic Ebert has an excellentreview. The girl is Natalie Portman as Emma and the guy is Ashton Kutcher asAdam. The best role however is Kevin Kline as Adam's dad, Alvin, whoends up hooking up with Adam's most recent ex-girlfriend. I may be one of the few who recognized Cary Elwes in the low-key roleof Dr. Metzner. Although he is nearing 50, with his youthful featuresand a light beard his character could pass for 35.Not a very good movie at all, but those who enjoy profane comedicsituations will likely enjoy this. SPOILERS: Naturally Emma and Adam cannot go on forever with ano-commitment, casual sex arrangement. She is afraid to commit toanyone, but he loves her. When he expresses his love and she retreats,he calls it quits. But eventually she misses him too much and they endup together, happily ever after.

Disgusting

While going into this movie I knew that it wasn't going to be great, asmost of these types of movies are never great. However, as most moviessuch as this, I figured I'd get a few laughs in and perhaps a feelingof giddiness. Well, that didn't happen. The movie started off raunchy, and awkward and for the most part it continued this way. Toward themiddle of the movie I was just completely disgusted by the jokes andwas just waiting for it to end. The movie was just all wrong. I shouldhave probably known that it was going to be this way, because it seemsas when an actor/actress wins an Oscar the next movie they are in iscompletely a miss.

Great little love story! Made me smile, laugh, and cry.

This review is from: No Strings Attached (Amazon Instant Video) I thought this would be a cheesy movie with a few good moments and I was completely wrong. Typically, the man is a womanizer, a workaholic, etc. In this movie, the rolls are reversed. Natalie plays a doctor that is a workaholic who has a serious commitment phobia. She creates an odd friends with benefits relationship with Ashton, that backfires on her. Ashton plays a romantic who wants more out of the relationship and decides he doesn't want to play games anymore. The movie had a great flow. There were some funny moments, some sad moments, etc. I thought a couple of the kissing scenes were a little awkward/rushed, but other than that, the acting was great. When the credits start rolling, keep watching. There is still a little more to the story. Definitely a movie for adults. Lots of talk about guys' "d***s", sex, complicated relationships, one night stands, etc.

3 1/2 stars for sexy and fun romcom

Coming off a highly praised turn in "The Black Swan", Natalie Portman does an acting 180 in this fairly traditional romantic comedy. There is certainly nothing new here. Can platonic friends be sex buddies without all the romantic entanglements? Yeah, good luck with that. Portman's character Emma is a medical student working an 80 hour week and looks to a friend she first knew when they were budding teenagers, to provide sexual release. Adam (Ashton Kutcher) works on a TV series, obviously helped along the way by his famous actor dad played by Kevin Kline. We certainly know where the movie is going to go, so how much fun is it getting there? More than we might expect. Portman and Kutcher work well together and push all the right buttons. There is no question Portman adds a certain acting legitimacy to what is pretty much a cookie-cutter plot. The movie is sexy and fun. What's wrong with that?

And They Come In Twos

Ever noticed how the box office always seems to release films in two?Confusing cinema goers making them rack their brains trying to decideon a film! Here are a few examples to prove my point:- Killers vs. Knight & Day (2010)- Dante's Peak vs. Volcano (1997)- The Prestige vs. the Illusionist (2006)- A Bugs Life vs. Antz (1998)- Deep Impact vs. Armageddon (1998)Coincidence? I think not! But from looking at those titles, there'salways one that's better quality than the other. And if you're tryingto decide which one is worth your time. Let me help you make thatdecision. Both 'No Strings Attached' & 'Friends With Benefits' are typical andpredictable, definitely something for the ladies. Both portray a modernfemale character who are empowering and career focused & don't want aserious relationship. But we can all guess what happens at the end, women hormones and emotions take over. But if we're going to compare the pair, 'No Strings attached' takes thecake hands down. The film's script takes on a much wittier approach andgave me a few chuckles and giggles. At the same time there were scenesthat got me a little choked up. It was a good mix of comedy and romancelike the genre suggests. Not to mention Kutcher and Portman who were portraying these typicalcharacters, seem to have more chemistry and didn't make my skin crawl.Even the older wiser character in both films, played by Kline (Adam'sFather) had more of a distinct characteristic and was flawed and funnyas oppose to the 'Friends with Benefits' counterpart played by Clarkson(Jamie's mother) who's character failed to even resonate in my memory.'Friends with Benefits' is a Justin Timberlake fans only film. Mila andJustin made a good effort, but if you're looking for a film with atypical plot that would make you laugh and cry. You'd be better offchecking out Reitman's 'No Strings Attached' attempt. Even though the 'No Strings attached' tag line appears to be directlyripping off 'Friends with Benefits'. How I see it is, if you're goingto do something that's been overdone and clichéd. Then do it well. And'No Strings Attached' did just that

(2012-05-13 04:32)

very funny

This review is from: No Strings Attached (DVD) I enjoyed this movie vewry much.I can't wait to see Ashten Kutcher in next seasonstwo and a half men. He shiold be terific.

DarkVulcan29 (2012-05-09 23:50)

Not has clever as it tried to be.

The Story is about Adam(Ashton Kutcher) and Emma(Natalie Portman), whoboth met at summer camp when they where teens, then at college yearslater, then met up again. Emma is a doctor, and Adam is a scriptassistant for Glee like series. The pair decide to just have sex, andstill remain friends, no romance. But will they hold up?Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman have good chemistry, but thereperformances are pretty weak in the first half, but they get better alittle has it goes on. And when it comes to sex talk, it was not cleverhas it tried to be, it came off sounding more annoyingly awkward. KevinKline shines as Kutchers movie star, pot smoking father. But the filmreally does not quite take off has it should. Watch She's Out Of MyLeague(2010) instead.

(2012-05-09 12:25)

Gives you butterflies!

This is the perfect girl movie! Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher are so good together, they could be a real life couple. I think a lot of people would see the cover and chalk this one up to a silly romantic comedy, but I thought the acting was great...especially Ashton. When Natalie pushed back (the whole premise of the movie is that she wants to just be "sex friends" but he wants more), he really looked like he was being patient with her as any guy head over heels for a girl would be. The scenes with his friends were funny too. And what girl doesn't eat donuts like a wild woman after getting the cold shoulder from a guy? Natalie's character did, and it was a great scene. It definitely evoked some emotion too if you've ever been in that situation. No Strings Attached is definitely worth renting, if not buying.
