They represent actual movie quality.
LOVED this movie at the theatre, and ordering it on BluRay. I agree that the plot is more creative and interesting than most movies like it. It is a great, entertaining movie to see with someone special :)
This review is from: The Adjustment Bureau [Blu-ray/DVD Combo + Digital Copy] (Blu-ray) This is a good movie, without the gratuitous violence that Hollywood often adds to Philip-K.-Dick-based scripts. We only watched the DVD version on a laptop so far.
David Norris (Matt Damon) runs for U.S. Senate, loses, but meets a fascinating ballet dancer. But a group of mysterious men using supernatural powers work to keep them apart. It's just too silly and non-sensical to be taken seriously, or viewed.
This is an enjoyable film, entertaining, well acted, and keenscreenplay which crosses a few genre boundaries but is largely aboutthe on-off romance between David (Damon) and Elise (Blunt). It mixes insuch vagaries as free will, "The" plan, and strange men all wearinghats to create a world where nothing, except perhaps the romance, iswhat it seems. It is a kind of Dark City meets City of Angels meets Star CrossedLovers meets.... and that is what gives the film a lot of charm andcovers over plot flaws such as - well I let you discover the biggestflaw in the whole movie when you have answered the question "Arerelationships ever predictable?" Because if they are predictable thenthe whole film loses its way, and if they are not, it loses its waytoo. But hey it's enjoyable and entertaining too so why worry. Is it over rated? Yes, if the score of over seven is anything to go by.Sure it's cute but it is no blockbuster and I have seen better romanticmovies that don't have such a dig in the sci-fi circuits.Six out of ten.
Random review for The Adjustment Bureau & I have to say it's a pretty solid film released earlier this year directed by George Molfi he's been a producer mostly. Stars Matt Damon as David Norris, Emily Blunt as Elise, Anthony Mackie as Harry, John Slattery as Richardson & Terrance Smith as Thompson. Story starts off in 2006 a Congressman Congressman named David Norris is running for The Senate. Things come out about him when he was younger & it ultimately costs him The Election while he is preparing his ConcessionSpeech he meets a young lady named Elise. His speech is well received by his supporters & he goes off script even. About a month later David starts a new job & everybody is talking 2010 for another Senate run. Then your introduced to a group known as The Adjustment Bureau. This guy named Harry is given a task to cause David to accidentally spill coffee on his shirt. Harry doesn't get to him in time. David he boards the bus & runs into Elise they start to talk & she gives him her number. When he gets to the office he finds his Campaign Staff paused these S W AT team looking guys he makes a run for it but he's caught & taken to some warehouse he learns about The Adjustment Bureau he wasn't suppose to see Elise he was suppose to spill coffee on his shirt go & change & miss the bus cause it's not ment to happen in the plan. He is told if you ever tell anybody about The Adjustment Bureau they will reset his mind meaning a lobotamy. You have Harry helping David on the side. So 3 years later David has been taking the same bus for 3 years hoping to see Elise again 1 day he sees her again & they reconnect. You find out that she is a ballet dancer. The Bureau tries to keep them away from each other. They mess with David when he tries to get to 1 of her recitals. They can go through doors that take them through different parts of NYC. Richardson discovers that David & Elise were meant to be together in his original plan. A guy named Thompson comes into the picture & tells him if he sticks with The Bureau's plan he will be President. He tells him if he stays with Elise he will ruin her chances of becoming a world famous dancer. These guys control the balance of what goes on in Government. Thompson uses his adjustment powers & causes Elise to fall. It sounds silly but I watch a lot of movies with ridiculous concepts & I love them. David is in fear for both of their futures so he abandons her at the hospital. 11 months later he is close to winning The Senate seat he finds out about Elise getting married Harry gives him a hat which allows them to go through doors & go any where they want in the city. David goes to the court house & finds Elise he tells her everything about The Bureau he tells her if you love me you'll go through the door which they end up in Yankee Stadium. They keep going through different doors until they end up on the roof "The Chairman" revises the plan & he lets David & Elise go on & live their life. I know I didn't do a good job explaning the plot I enjoyed this movie. George Nofli did a good job directing I believe this was his 1st time directing. Matt Damon I have said it A LOT I don't buy him as an action star but he is a great dramatic actor. He was great he got me involved & I cared about him & Emily Blunt I thought she was great. Anthony Mackie did a good job. John Slattery was good Terrance Smith wasn't bad. If you haven't seen The Adjustment Bureau check it out it definitely deserves all the praise.
Recently, I saw a newly released Matt Damon movie, "We bought a Zoo," and liked it quite a bit...and Matt Damon's acting. So I decided to try this movie. It was an interesting concept, but I think I mostly liked the movie because of Matt Damon (and Emily Blunt...). Also, there is another character who helps Matt to follow his heart and make a free-will choice... that I liked, too.
What I liked about this movie was the ensemble of actors that providedwhat by any standards was a fine display of talent, Matt Damon (whonever disappoints), Emily Blunt and Terence stamp were remarkable, theysurprisingly held together a plot that would have been flat and dourbut for their extraordinary skill. The premise is good but the delivery poor, I liked the idea of a bureauthat controls world destiny, but the dudes I saw in the movie couldhave been more slick more bad ass, when I finally settled down toaccepting what was on the plate I realized half way through thatnothing big was going to happen the story is simply about the bureautrying to keep Blunt's and Damon's characters apart. So I settled down to enjoying the romance and chemistry while waitingfor a unique twist at the end, well there was none and the anti climaxwas not block buster worthy.I'd say watch the movie but don't hold your breath.
Systematic adventure, chair gripping action that keeps the best sleuth guessing at what is going to happen next. Kudos to Matt Damen One of his fans for life.
A fresh idea.. There is a Bureau, the agents of this bureau areadjusting our everyday activities so as to make us follow the basicPLAN that has been jot down by "The Chairman" for us..But David Norris (Matt Damon) is not like others,, he fell for someonehe was not supposed to be with according to the plan.. so every agentof the bureau came to stop him from meeting his love..But he chose to fight for his love..In the end he made The Chairman to change the PLAN...Its a good movie with a good love story and intense acting...A must see for those who can think outside the box...!!!
This review is from: The Adjustment Bureau (Amazon Instant Video) It was boring. It did not inspire. - The Chairman of Blast shieldsAt one point in the movie I found myself walking around my small one bedroom apartment turning handles to try and get away from this movie.
This review is from: The Adjustment Bureau (Amazon Instant Video) This movie is all about defying what others have in mind for you and creating your own path.Absolutely great movie. The chemistry between the two main characters is simply outstanding.
I found this movie to be entertaining, and the chemistry between Damonand Blunt was excellent. The plot was fresh, and I really enjoyed theanticipation the main characters brought, waiting to see if they wouldfinally meet again, or if they would ever get together. The concept ofpeople overseeing our lives, and following a script for each one of uswas something that makes you think. I think they could have made theending even better by showing a caption 5 years in the future and asecret serviceman calling Matt Damon to his seat in the Kennedy Center, saying, the first lady is about to start her performance Mr. President. Then Emily Blunt would come out on stage and start her dance. You needto see the movie to understand this premise. It would have made themovie a real feel good ending for me. See this movie. Good story andgood acting. Matt Damon always gives a great performance.performance.
The best thing about this movie is the choice of actors and the location. Most of the movie took place right in the area where my favorite NYC hotel is located, by the Brooklyn Bridge and Pier 17. I could watch it again just to enjoy the view. The plot was fun as long as you don't take it too seriously. Actors: Excellent!Location: Couldn't Be Better!Plot: Not Too Bad. Enjoyable. Definitely Different.Music: Very Nice
I like the novels and short stories from author Philip K. Dick(1928-1982), but my expectations before watching the movies based onhis work are always low, because even though I liked some of them verymuch (Blade Runner, A Scanner Darkly and Total Recall), I found otherones to be atrocious pieces of crap (Impostor and Paycheck). I thinkthat the difficulty for adapting his work to the big screen does notonly lie on his febrile vision and extravagant ideas, but also on theuse of narrative structures which challenge the unavoidable formulasfrom the cinematographic screenplay. So, even though his books andshort stories might seem like a good starting point for a film, theysometimes loose the "magic", because they are forced to fit into therigid Hollywood parameters. So, I was not surprised to find that thefilm The Adjustment Bureau has very few in common with the short storyAdjustment Team, on which it was supposedly based; on the other hand, what did surprise me was to find a brilliant movie on its own merit, whose combination of science fiction and romance feels perfectlyintegrated and intelligently written. It is convenient not to reveal too much about the screenplay from TheAdjustment Bureau, because I liked discovering the clues andrevelations about the "agents" at the same time of the main charactersvery much. I also liked the way in which the movie denies itself tobring a definite answer about the "agents", preferring to designatedivergent routes in order to let the spectators to draw conclusionsaccording to their own ideology. That same balance between the evidentand the implicit extends to the other elements from the screenplay, soThe Adjustment Bureau can leave equally satisfied to those who are onlysearching to spend a time of adventure, romance and suspense; and tothose ones who want to analyze the concepts from the story deeply, speculating about all those things which are suggested, but notexplained. As I mentioned in many occasions, I am not a big fan of romanticcinema, and I think that that is because I rarely feel it real andsincere. There are many movies which limit themselves to present us anattractive couple and expect us to accept their relationship withoutquestioning their reasons and credibility. On the opposite, TheAdjustment Bureau rounds on an intense and credible romance between thecharacters interpreted by Matt Damon and Emily Blunt, who both have aperfect chemistry with each other, and also make a great work atbringing a genuine life to their characters' feelings. I will not denythat the fact that the story occasionally makes us to take a leap offaith, but I did not have any problem in accepting the mutual chemistrybetween the main characters. In fact, it was indispensable for it to beso, because the romance is not an ornament of the screenplay, but itsabsolute axis, and if it had not worked, the rest of the movie wouldhave collapsed due to a lack of cohesion. Besides, I found themetaphysical aspect from The Adjustment Bureau to be very interesting. The only complain I have against The Adjustment Bureau is that theending is a bit convenient. In spite of that, I liked this film verymuch, and I was not bothered at all by the lack of the bizarre elementsfrom the short story in order for it to forge its own style and createa fascinating world inhabited by solid and interesting characters.Besides of the performances from Damon and Blunt, I also liked the workfrom John Slattery, Anthony Mackie and the great Terence Stamp.Director George Nolfi had an excellent debut with The AdjustmentBureau, and I will definitely look forward to his next projects.
This movie hammers, over and over and over and over and over and over again, its ridiculous main point: Love is more important than what God wants, but if you want love enough, even God will rewrite history to make love work out for you. And by 'love' we mean fleeting, chance encounters that make you feel warm inside and lead to physical passion. No changing diapers or forgiving unkind comments in this relationship. Absurd and dogmatic. Not worth it.
The film deals with two very important philosophical matters (forcesthat control the destiny of all men and use of free will) in a veryfrivolous way. This is very curious for a movie that cost over50.000.000 dollars. The script doesn't have major plot twists.Thecharacters are one-dimensional,which is a huge drawback for a thrillerwith almost no action. There is no emotional stimulation for the spectators. There isn't eventhe slightest passion between the two lovers,so the film doesn't havean impact as a love story either.Matt Damon is efficient as always, but the rest of the actors andactresses offer very unmemorable performances. The direction is uninspired. There isn't any visual satisfactioneither, although the film belongs in a genre with opulent visualdelights. If you want to see a powerful love story in the form of a thriller,"Thenext three days" is a must. You won't regret it...The film was on the shelves for quite some time before its release.Ithink that this fact means a lot... No rabbits out of these hats!
The Adjustment Bureau - A hard film to stick in a particular genre. It's a Romantic Science Fiction film that deals focuses on fate andidea that a power out with our human control is manipulating events anddeciding our destiny. Essentially this film is a love story between ahot shot politician (Matt Damon) and a up and coming ballet dancer(Emily Blunt) both on their way to greatness. This film works so welldue to chemistry that Damon and Blunt have on screen. Dealing with suchcontroversial concepts such as God and Fate is challenging to convey toan audience, but George Nolfi's seems to have managed to present thesethemes in a smart and digestible way. So far this is my favorite filmof the year and I would give it a (B+) - Highly Recommended!!
It seems nowadays in our modern era of global communication, being ableto call anyone anywhere from any place, and easy transport, being ableto travel anywhere at anytime by any means, think planes, trains, buses, cars, subways, and boats, that we are standing more still thanever and just don't know it. We don't remember the thrill of franticmovement, the fear of being chased, because we have been stagnated byour countless comfort zones which enable us to live without actuallyever trying. The ease of modern technology has allowed us to transportourselves through life without actually doing so and that is what thismovie feels like. "The Adjustment Bureau" begins intriguingly enoughwhen defeated politician David Norris, played almost too quietly byMatt Damon, stumbles upon the girl of his dreams, Elise Sellas playedby Emily Blunt, almost at the same time that reality literally fallsasleep on the clock. From there on David has to chase after Elise inorder to stay with her as certain characters of a disreputablevagueness track him down and try to trick him up with every cheap trickin the book. Although the movie unfolds on a pure fantasy level thateven young children can relate to the story is marred by the casualpacing of the drama between the two adult characters who for allintents and purposes, although sweet, are just not that interesting. The villains in this movie, if they can be called that, are neverimposing or intrusive enough to give import to the passionate necessityof the romantic relationship that David and Elise are supposed to have. The scientist characters in "E.T." are more threatening than theovercoat/top-hat wearing g-men types in this movie. The last ten orfifteen minutes is quite exciting though as the two romantic leads arechased through a series of ordinary doors that open unpredictably toplaces at random presenting "chance" itself as an environment that isas inescapable as it is the only escape. If the movie had begun thisway and had tried to maintain it's pace then it might have felt moreconflicted, and subsequently more exciting, than watching a man with abad signal on his cellphone hitting the redial button repeatedly whilemultitasking the bus he's riding on by using it to get to work and findhis true love at the same time.
This is a good Matt Damon film. Not as good as the Bourne Trilogy, butits pretty good. I never knew who Anthony Mackie was until this movie.I remember him in We are Marshall and this was a good role for him. This movie really makes you think about the Butterfly Effect Theory. italso makes you think about what angels are and what kind of impact theyhave on society. Anything is possible and I wish that everyone whowatches this movie keeps an open mind. It's kind of like what we thinkof when we watch What Dreams may Come, except not so gay. I really likethe fact that they integrated the Butterfly Effect with the Theory ofRelativity.
The story tells about the conflict between free will and predestinationand raises these questions in a science-fiction thriller with asurprising romance. Everything gets intriguing, since the plot developsinto a cat-and-mouse game of the mind, where Emily Blunt and Matt Demonfall in love when trying to elude the "controllers". The actors givethe impression of being in control of the situation that has alsoelements of a black comedy and the director knows all the buttons topush as to make an intriguing plot. "The Adjustment Bureau" is a smartfilm which might have been simply great if it had been a bit moredaring but the entertainment is certainly heartwarming and suggestive. On the whole it's good both from the sci-fi angle and from the actionrelated side, overall helped by a strong chemistry between David andElise.
