Never before that I went to see a movie and found myself in the place that I kept lying to myself that the story will getting better. At the end of the movie, I have to apologized to my friend since I dragged her see this movie. What a waste!!!!!
this movie was better than i thought it would be. i thought that seth rogen did a pretty good job, and the guy who played kato was awesome. this movie was pretty good.
It's hard to dislike Seth Rogen. Even when he's being a complete idiot like refusing to grow up in Knocked Up, dishing out random advice inThe 40 Year Old Virgin or making a porno in Zack and Miri Make a Porno.Essentially, Rogen is like a frustrating little brother  a chubbystoner who scoffs all the pizza, puts the empty milk carton back in thefridge and repels your friends by making boob jokes about, well, theirboobs. Rogen has made a career for himself playing Fozzie bear and, while he hasn't stretched his talents playing wannabe superherobillionaire Brit Read aka The Green Hornet, that goofy sweetness workswell here most of the time. The tale itself, in case you aren't one of the fan boys salivating overthe arrival of The Green Hornet (3D), is simple  rich orphan becomescrime fighting antihero with the help of a tech whizz kid, a sexed upmotor and a penchant for mayhem. So far, so Batman. Except, with Rogenand mates on board, The Green Hornet doesn't take itself as seriouslyas *puts on deep voice* The Batman. And that's good, because not onlyare there no embarrassing voices making you cringe behind your popcornbut one of the best things about The Green Hornet is that it's funny, like properly laugh at loud funny.Unfortunately funny isn't always enough. With more superheroes gracingour screens than you can shake a light sabre at, today's audiencesexpect more than a couple of chuckles, a cute cameo and a big fatexplosion. We want romance, car chases, bad guys with issues, good guyswith flaws, big guns, bigger bangs and brain boggling street fights alltied up with a storyline that will squeeze every drop of emotion out ofus like wringing out one sheet of Bounty. It's a lot to ask but, hey, life's tough. The Green Hornet's funny, its 3D looks good and it starts off strongwith a heart breaking back story about daddy but then it loses thethread slightly, lurching from scene to scene like a toddler in SantaLand, over explaining the storyline with dodgy dialogue, throwing inunnecessary "stylish" graphics when you want to see some properfighting and dragging out odd scenes just for the laughs.Sure, there are flashes of comedy gold in The Green Hornet. You canreally see where director Michael Gondry was going. He just didn'tquite get there. It's a bit like when your granny asks if you want abiscuit and, instead of the expected chocolate Hobnob, you get two RichTea with a bit of margarine in between.
Let's cut to the chase here. This movie has a lot in it, but it sums up to a lot of nothing. The reason for that is mainly because the main character, the spoiled rich guy played by Seth Rogan has such a blatant disrespect for Kato. That's it in a nutshell. Throughout the entire movie, Kato is the real driving force behind everything while Green Hornet takes all the credit and basically fails to recognize Katos abilities or appreciate him, even in the end (I didn't believe his trite contrition at the end).A lot happens throughout the movie, yet none of it really matters much because it all boils down to such a total disrespect for Kato. Green Hornet reminds me of a corporation's attitude toward its employees. Maybe that's the real theme here. Maybe that is why this movie has really turned off so many people. Green Hornet is the figurehead while Kato does all the real thinking and all the grunt work. Who gets all the credit? Green Hornet, of course. Who is Kato? Nuff said. The movie could have really sparkled if Green Hornet had of come off with a different attitude, a bit if humility, instead of the selfish lout Rogan played. I don't fault Rogan as much as the script or the director for that, unless Rogan had a hand in that in the first place!I only give it three stars for all the special effects and for the effort Kato put into this and... Cameron Diaz... She didn't really have a lot to do except kick Green Hornet in the gonads, but that was worth it.Guess I don't have to not-recommend this one. Enough people figured that out on their own.
I remember that just before watching this movie i read an article in anewspaper that was based on a research that said that watching stupidmovies could make you stupid in real life and believe me when i waswatching this crappy movie which i don't think should change its nameto the green pile of sh*t or something like that, i literally felt thati was made stupid as the movie continued to play . I Have always lovedthe drama genre but occasionally i tend to watch other genres likecomedy but this is totally worthless junk approximately everysuper-hero movie is based on the same theme what the F**K was differenti was happy to hear that Kevin smith backed out to direct this weirdthing. And finally i would like to say for all those who have wastedtheir time more than money i sympathies you and those who are trying tofool people by saying this movie was any good i pity u miserablecreatures.
Frankly, very few remakes are worth the time. I was expecting adisaster of a movie when I started watching, but was pleasantlysurprised.Seth Rogen is his usual self/character. He needs to learn more than onetrick. I found his acting flat and his voice monotonous. So kudos tothe screen and script writers for making it interesting enough that MrRogen's shortcomings are overcame.Cameron Diaz.... Of the hundreds of actresses in the movie industry, why her? Is her character written in, in the last minute? Or is theresome kind of compulsory need to add a female lead, so that the 2 maleleads are not seen as homosexuals? She was refreshing a decade ago, nowshe is just.... boring and highly predictable.Jay Chou. Being an Asian-Asian, I personally never like or dislike him.He has a zero-expression face, no matter what movie he is in. Puttinghim in the shoes of Bruce Lee is a tough order. Of all the charactersin the movie, his is the most significant one. Ones with bigexpectations to fill, and I think he did alright. Do remember this ishis first Hollywood movie. Other than that, I still say he can't reallyact.Story/plot. The movie is fast pace enough that even the slow momentsget by really fast. After a first 15 minutes or so, there is verylittle dull moments. One of the few things I disliked about this movieis the elevated level of gory deaths. Is it really necessary? As I saidbefore the screen and script writers did a fantastic job in thisadaptation. For pure action entertainment, I'll give it 8 or 9 out of 10. However, overall it should only garner a 7, in my opinion.
Let me be blunt. This movie stinks to high heaven.I don't think we have to worry about being burdened with a sequel. The "acting" is over the top. The attempts at "humor" are overblown; everyone's chewing up the scenery. There's very little cohesive story line. A lot of people were clearly doing dope if they thought this project was at all clever. This mess makes "Ishtar" look like the height of artistic and entertainment achievement.Don't waste your time or one penny of your money on this train wreck.
this film has received a lot of hate, but sometimes critics get itwrong, sure its a dumb movie, but damn its funny as hell. as anythingRogen is involved in it is filled with incredible comedic moments, andalso the action is pretty damn spectacular, there are always explosionsgoing off and pretty awesome karate action sequences. the story isn'teven that bad and pokes fun at some action movie clichés, for examplethe thing that gets the villain killed at the end is that in an attemptto become more scary and affective, he says a long speech just beforehe kills someone, thus giving the hero plenty of time to react. overall a very funny film, surprisingly well acted and just entertaining inwhole.
Seth Rogen as The Green Hornet? Michel Gondry directing a superheromovie? I haven't a clue as to how all of this is going to pan out, andfor one simple reason: I'll never know because I'm never going to seethis thing. My first impression when seeing the preview was how unsuperhero-esqueSeth Rogen is. And then I wondered how producers could've allowed himto be casted. Then I learned he wrote the screenplay and that was that.Still, regardless of how funny he was on Freaks and Geeks and how funnyhe was as a writer with Superbad, Seth Rogen is not so flexible anactor that he can just jump into any type of role he desires. Very fewactors can. And he is far from being a Christian Bale.According to The New York Times review, there are a couple of funnymoments in the film. Big deal. Is that why we go to see comic bookmovies? For funny? How funny was The Dark Knight? Some films, like KickAss, mix some humor into the comic book world without taking over theintended aesthetic of the film entirely. I somehow doubt The GreenHornet is going to come close to how ridiculously awesome Kick Ass is.Somehow I doubt that very much.As far as Michel Gondry's participation in the film, truthfully, I onlylike one movie he directed, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Andas finely directed that film is, it is Charlie Kaufman's brilliantlyimaginative script that is ultimately the star. I did not see TheScience of Sleep (though I heard it stinks) and I hated Be Kind,Rewind. The latter is a terribly unfunny comedy with terribly unfunnycharacters and a terribly unfunny plot. I can only imagine The GreenHornet being closer to that comic flop than Eternal Sunshine of theSpotless Mind, especially since there is no genuine talent, like aCharlie Kaufman type, to "save the day."
You old folks need to ease up. (This old fogey refused to watch the new Star Trek movie, as who could possibly replace Spock or Kirk?, so I can relate. I have watched the new one at least 30 times now. It's not the same, yeah, yeah...) BUT, my 11 year old son & I watched this movie together as it one of only a few 3D movies available for home viewing, and had big fun. We laughed a lot. It also was a lesson in life's excesses as my son asked some pretty relevant questions about Reid's attitude. The gadgets, cars, car chases & fight scenes were excellent. Kato's wizardry with his inventions were too cool. I personally enjoyed the twist given to the normally unbeatable super hero white male role by Rogen.Rating 5 stars is not the norm for me, whatever the product, but I feel folks won't give it a chance because of the Hornet's original version die-hard's one star ratings. I do want to thank them though. I was able to purchase the movie for my collection really cheap!!
It will be a short review, I didn't find the movie bad, it was ok, but this movie just make me miss Bruce Lee wonderful physique and acrobatics, irreplaceable.
I'll quote Batman here to start off this review " It's the car isn'tit? chicks dig the car" Well to hell with the chicks, i dig the freakincar!!! Unfortunately I felt the car was the best part of this movie ohand Jay Chou who was a cooler Kato then Bruce Lee, yeah i said it!!! OKI love Seth Rogen to death i mean he's a very likable presence on thescreen as in flicks such as Knocked Up, 40 year old virgin, superbadjust not The Green Hornet. OK i know the character Britt Reid aka TheGreen Hornet is indeed a funny character for taking all the creditpretty much for stuff Kato pretty much does however i just couldn't getpast him being in this type of film even if he did write it. maybethats what my problem was here i didn't like his version of the film, now if director Christopher Nolan was to do this his way hmmmm thatwould be what this film needs to be up alongside the greats on my wallsuch as The Dark Knight, Batman Returns etc etc. OK now that being saidlets get down to the car!!! Whatta beauty which in fact is what the caris called in the film The Black Beauty! This car has makes the JamesBond cars look like toys with dual machine guns, ejector seats withparachutes, it even shot out red hard balls in one sequence. Sowhatever my review is worth I'm sure this film will kick ass in the boxoffice cause Rogen was smart when in doubt about the script andstoryline get a cool looking car that kick ass and it will selltickets, hell i even paid!
The Green Hornet is a fantastic fun movie to watch. Only Purists willcomplain that it's not like the 67 series starring Van Williams orBruce Lee. Fans of the Green hornet know the hero was introduced in the30's without a origin he was related to the Lone Ranger and the conceptof Britt Reid and Kato was a rich man fighting crime alongside hisethnic sidekick. A modern update on the Lone Ranger and it worked.however after 1966-67 the Green Hornet became a TV show known only forhaving Bruce Lee on it the show was good but maybe ahead of it's time. The Green Hornet languished in obscurity afterwards resurrected in afew series from NOW Comics and that was it he was almost forgotten. Then Kevin Smith was hired to direct and write a new Green Hornet moviefans of that were excited then Smith departed. Then Seth Rogan wasgiven the chance to write and star in the Green Hornet. And..He doesremarkably Very good. True he mixes things up and rearranges them butit works. Britt Reid is a lazy shiftless son of a Media mogul namedJack Reid who is constantly embarrassed by his son's antics when JackReid is murdered Britt goes into a depression over the fact that hisfather is dead and that everyone expects him to fill the shows of thegreat man himself. Britt has no idea about the newspaper he inheritedor how to run it. He attempts to try but again he is limited by hislack of knowledge. Enter Kato his father's aide this young Asian manhas a lot of talent a lot of skill and a lot of ability during adrunken bonding spree the two disguised go out and vandalize hisfathers's statue when they see a mugging and stop it. They becomeaddicted to the moment and Britt Reid finds one way he can fill hisfathers' shoes Fight Crime as the Green Hornet. He will pose as one ofthe bad guys and take them down as one of the good guys. The actionscenes are good and keep you on the edge of your seat the comedy bitshad me laughing and Cameron Diaz was a total surprise she was justwonderful in her small role. But biggest surprise here was Seth Rogan.Jay Chou was good as Kato and in fact he steals the movie at times fromRogan but Seth Rogan was the biggest surprise for me because he becamethe Green Hornet he made him and Britt Reid feel very very real. Seethis and make up your own mind but for me this was one of the nicestmovie going surprises of 2011.
Wow....it's been awhile. Haven't reviewed a movie since late September. But that doesn't mean I haven't stopped seeing them. In fact, lastnight i got off my lazy butt to go see a movie that was making a buttload of money, "The Green Hornet". After 2 weeks it's made 63 milliondollars (great take-in for a January movie). But let's talk about whatmatters. Is this movie good? Answer, no. Is this movie fun? Answer, yes. This is nothing except an action movie in the winter. Explosionsand clichés abound. Strictly a popcorn flick. But that doesn't mean youcan't have a good time watching this movie. This movie will entertainyou for.....well, about 2 hours, but if you need to get out of thehouse and are just looking for a good time, this is the movie for you.Grade: C (B if we're talking about how entertaining it was)
The comedic superhero flick, adapted by a radio series instead of aclassic superhero comic, "The Green Hornet" brings out laughs that canspoof the classic superhero flicks. Although the film had its moments,I started to wonder, while watching, these two guys were acting likebad guys, when trying to be good guys, and does not relate to what afilm like this should be. But honestly, the film had many moments todie for. Like the hilarious cast of Seth Rogen, Tom Wilkinson, CameronDiaz, Jay Chou (one of my favorite roles), and Christoph Waltz (anotherfavorite role). And my favorite part in the movie was the chemistrybetween Christoph and the surprise role by James Franco, playedhilariously like a pro. Although the film has cool effects, awesomestoryline backbone, and hilarious casting, the film was just trying tospoof other superhero movies, and acting it like the other way around."The Green Hornet", in my review, "hilarious and action packed, but notthat relative".
In a nutshell, much was said prior to the release of this junk about SR shedding weight for this role. Well, too bad he did nothing to also shed or at least ease up on his worn-out on-screen persona. It has officially grown WAY PAST irritating!
Just came back from seeing the non-3D version of the movie at Cinemark. I really don't understand the negative comments about Seth Rogen. I thoroughly enjoyed the new Green Hornet. IMO.. it captured the favor of the old series, but with a lot more humor. Remember in the 1960 series, the Kato action scenes and the BLACK BEAUTY always stole the show. Hardly anyone remembers the person who portrayed the actual Green Hornet character. I think his name had "Van" in it somewhere. Again, the real stars of the updated version are the action scenes and the BLACK BEAUTY. They really had some well placed stunts -- incredible! Although I must say, this time, the actual Green Hornet character was not the hard-boiled thinker of old, but an immature risk taker, which now makes him much more memorable. If Mr. Rogen really wrote this script, I applaud him. As a side note, I would love to see a dark production of the Green Hornet (in the style of Batman Begins) brought to the screen!
What a hoot! As one who remembers the radio show and early TV, this was fun to watch. I also have the original movie serial from the 40's.
I don't see the point in making a debate out of this, so I'll get downto brass tacks. The movie is good. It, like every other movie on theplanet, has flaws. This being the ever-changing accent of Chudnofskyand Jay Chou. There are probably better actors suited for those roles. There are times when the humor works and when it doesn't, like mostmovies. So why the mediocre reviews? Seth Rogen was quoted saying"Nerds love complaining. You go to Ain't It Cool News, and everybodycomplains about everything. They could find out Jesus Christ was makinga movie with Frank Miller, and they'd say, 'That's a terriblecombination!" When the live action Dragonball movie came out, theinitial review from the nerds and fan-boys was that it was terrible. This didn't come as too much of a shock since it looked horribleanyways, but when I found out that the "style of Goku's hair" among afew other nit-picky things caused the terrible reviews, I was justweirded out. I think that this was an example of that. The movie isn'treally all that bad, it was just shown to the wrong people.
That was probably the biggest mistake with the making of this film. Rogen pretty much brought his Pineapple express, Observe and report, and Zack and Miri characters and mashed them all into Britt Reid. That wasn't a good idea, since most, if not all comic book heroes don't throw F bombs into every other sentence. Comedy in a comic book hero is one thing, but it shouldn't be over the top. This is a PG-13 movie, but even that should be a strong 13 with all the vulgar language. I like vulgarity as much as the next guy, but watching it with my pre-teen child was not a good idea on my part.
