It was just OK!

The original TRON was ground breaking with pioneer in using computerimagery, even though another half of the effect were done with oldfashion hand paint animation and optical printing. Nowadays, computeris used for almost every movies, so I expect a lot more from TRONLEGACY!Well, I am kind of disappointed and certainly won't consider it out ofthis world! It was just an OK movie with well control execution andbudget. It is certainly nothing near AVATAR! AVATAR was almost 100%done with computer animation and special effect! Here, most part of themovie happened at night! That already save them a lot on back grounddetail. Then again, some of the details are really unnecessary. What issmoke and dust doing in the computer world? Mile stone in computergenerated special effect? Far from it, unless you born yesterday! Theupdated vehicles were nice and really cool though!3D imagery? Once again, I feel FLAT (much like AVATAR)! Once again, itshown me that once I focus on the story, it really make no different tome - 2D or 3D. The feeling of depth is just not that great. Justanother excuse for theater to charge extra for that flimsy 3D glasses! No more 3D movie for me!On the musical score? Director seem unable to decide whether it shouldbe more techno or full orchestra style, so he given us both. Theimpression is neither here or there. I certainly prefer techno style inthe original TRON. Still using DISC for storage? During the original TRON, 5.25 inchdiskette was used for storage, followed by 3.5 inch diskette, CD, DVD,and now spinning disc is almost at the end of the road as Flash Driveand SD Card are taking over. A little behind time for a futuristicmovie? No complaint on actors. Most did an adequate jobs. No Oscar winningperformance. Story wise, all over the place. Why program need to eat? They only need energy source, maybe like water in the original TRON.Over here, they have wine and eat asparagus! None of the character makeme care for them (as compare to the original TRON), even the death ofKevin Flynn (Spoiler!). OK, he died. So? Is that necessary? That's all I want to say as a sci-fi movie fan. For an almost 50 yearsold guy, maybe I just get a little ahead of time! Otherwise some of youexcited guys must have just born yesterday!

Scores great on Visuals and sound………but the script…????

The plot of the movie is that of Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund) , thetech-savvy 27-year-old son of Kevin Flynn(Jeff Bridges),who tries tolook into the disappearance of his father which leads him to thevirtual world his father's been trapped in for almost 2 decades. Whatfollows is a stunning visual delight with some edgy fight and chasesequences, displaying great maneuvers……!!!! Sheer Visual Treat..!!In this movie, the soundtrack (courtesy Daft Punk) comes as the realwinner. It makes the complete feel of the Virtual world so real andupbeat that it is hard not to enjoy. The fights and clash along withsome very ecstatic tracks feels terrific. The script is the real culprit which takes the entire feel to anunexpected low. The characters are weak, so is the acting, even Bridgescould not give justice to his "Kevin Flynn" character. But CLU was verywell played by him(Yeah, Jeff Bridges appears in 2 Guises).Sam(Garrett) is just another character played in a very clichéd manner.Olivia Wilde is also just OK as the doe eyed "Quorra". Michael Sheen as"Castor" has a sort a cameo. But still his 5 minutes of screen presenceimpressed me.Director's job is just OK. Not extraordinary. The original TRON ('82)was a cult movie then. Although the descent of technology makes thisone visually spectacular but fails to keep the audience engaged on thestory line.

Subversive Genius

Where Tron really makes its money in my book – I mean, other than theeye-popping visuals and foot-tapping score/soundtrack – is in thesocial commentary is contains. First, the big one: Tron throws a hugespear at utopian 60s-vintage hippified day-dreaming, noting that thepursuit of perfection by those who are imperfect themselves (i.e, theKevin Flynn character whose human imperfections are transferred to CLU)results in tyranny, abuse, and the extermination of undesirables. Themovie even contained the digital equivalent of the colosseum, wherekidnapped programs fight gladiators for the amusement of the mob.Apparently, even digital totalitarians need bread and circuses todistract the masses from the abuses of the police state under whichthey live. So, given that left-liberalism is merely the incarnation ofa belief in the perfectibility of man–and especially the perfectibilityof human society–this movie perhaps inadvertently delivers a flyingelbow smash into the face of God-complex left-liberal philosophy. Thisis the true subversive genius of this movie, in my opinion: how itpromotes individual freedom by providing a case study in howtotalitarian regimes are started. Moreover, this movie is doublysubversive given how the target demo of this movie is men and teenageboys; for we know that the male sex is much more receptive to the(risky) concept of individual freedom and suffers the most under thepresent matriarchal state. In keeping with the theme of sly subversion in this movie is the mannerin which women are portrayed. Sorry bean counting-obsessed feminists, you're not likely to cotton well to this movie, for with the exceptionof the Quorra character, women figure very little in this movie, andwhen they do appear, they do so primarily as ornaments. Svelte, attractive ornaments in platform heels and tight get-ups, the betterfor the male eye to feast upon. So why do I say subversive, instead ofmerely sexist? Well–and follow me here for a moment–in keeping with thememe that leading women in action movies are ass-kickers, Quorra doesnot disappoint, for she does quite a bit of that while helping theFlynn the Elder and Flynn the Younger escape to the I/O portal. Bothfemales and males enjoy this staple of action films. But it's fiction,full-on fantasy, and we all know it to be true: the vast majority ofwomen in real life can't hope to hold their own against a male in afight, let alone fend off multiple male combatants in a mêlée. But hey,all the fights take place on The Grid, it isn't real. No, the realshift comes when Quorra enters the real world…for upon doing so, shechanges from confident she-warrior to wide-eyed submissive girlfriend, gladly and comfortably riding the pillion seat behind Sam on his Ducatiand revelling in cuddling up behind him as he slews his motorcycle downthe blacktop. The message, muted as it is? Yes, fantastical martialarts prowess is good to fantasize about, but women and girls arehappiest and most complete when following their hero, when ridingpillion behind their man as he leads them both forward through life.Ergo, the example of Quorra's conduct off-grid is subversive to thefeminist fish-and-bicycle conceptualisation of how men and women shouldrelate. The next piece of commentary this movie delivers is in the advice itgives to men. Fathers, whatever widget you're working on, don't forgetto keep your family a priority, for they suffer with your absence. Youare not expendable. And sons, if your dad's not present, think twicebefore blaming it on him. It may not be his desire to be absent fromyour life.Bottom line: rocking movie. Completely recommended. Ignore some of theobvious plot holes, like Kevin Flynn biologically ageing inside amachine, and sometimes annoying dialogue–e.g., Kevin Flynn saying"man", like, a bazillion times, fer sure, and sit back and enjoy themovie for what it is intended to be…total guy candy that teaches alesson or two along the way if you bother to read between the lines.

We certainly ain't in Kansas anymore

Once Tron: Legacy's final credits roll, I can guarantee you of twothings; one, you will be safe in the knowledge that you have justwitnessed genuinely the most spectacular visual feast of 2010. Two,you'll have a somewhat strong urge to re-watch The Big Lebowski. The Dude himself plays Kevin Flynn, the former software wizard trappedin a digital world he helped create, and CLU, his virtual counter-partwho rules that very virtual nightmare. It's up to Flynn's son Sam torescue his papa and bring him back to life, back to reality.Inevitably, CLU ain't having that and digital hijinks ensue, all to thesound of Daft Punk. The film starts decidedly rocky, with a neat opening flashback to 1989featuring father and young son soiled by a strangely terrifying CGIJeff Bridges. After a montage explaining the backstory of the film,we're presented with a faintly ludicrous scene where Sam plays aglorified practical joke on ENCOM, his father's old software companywhich he is now the controlling shareholder of. Look out for aridiculous moment where it appears the height of this squillion-dollarcompany's security measures is a single bumbling overweight guardwaddling uselessly after Sam. Soon after all this mischief, BruceBoxleitner shows up and urges Sam to look for his father, which iswhere the movie picks up.Tron: Legacy's main strength is how it presents the virtual worlditself to the audience. Make no mistake about it, Disney has created atruly alien atmosphere - we certainly aren't in Kansas anymore. We knowas much as Sam does about The Grid (ie squat) and the viewer is asbaffled as poor Sam as he enters deeper into the cyber universe.Garrett Hedlund is naturally likable as Flynn Jnr, and his performanceis hard to fault. Perhaps his only downside is he's annoyinglyhandsome, but who am I to argue with the fruit of CGI Jeff Bridges'loins?Likewise, the rest of the cast is solid and do the best they can with apatchy script. Watch out for Bridges' "Tron, what have you become?"line, surely the most unintentionally humorous line of dialogue in asci-fi movie since the Star Wars prequels. Darth Vader-esquire nuggetsof cringe aside, Jeff Bridges plays Flynn as a sort of Dude for theDisney audience. I was half expecting to see him sipping on a WhiteRussian during the climatic chase scene commenting on Marmots. In anycase, he's as fun to watch as ever and the man is clearly having ablast returning to the role. Olivia Wilde is intriguing as the programQuorra, but doesn't get a lot to work with and frustratingly thecharacter is barely explored. The standout performance is Michael Sheenas the flamboyant program Castor. Sheen hams it up so much you canalmost smells the pork, but his Ziggy Stardust meets Frank N Furtermeets Tony Blair schtick is a delight to watch. So can I recommend Tron: Legacy? Overall the movie is a classic case ofstyle over substance - bottom line, the story's a wafer-thin rescuecaper, and those movie goers whose pants tighten at finding big sexyplot holes will probably have a field day with this one. However, whilethe story may be secondary, the visuals are frankly too stunning forany serious movie fan to miss - seeing the world of Tron in full 3D isan experience worth the ticket price. Go on, let yourself be immersedin The Grid. Now if you excuse me, I've got The Big Lebowski to watchfor the 423rd time.

What 3D-VERY VERY Disappointing

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie in the theather which is why I decided to purchase this movie. I recently purchased a 3D TV & 3D Sony BD player and thought this would be a great movie to try out my new equipment, "WRONG". I thought my TV was malfuctioning; apparently the extreme majority of the movie was shot in 2D, save your money and buy the BluRay version. The cover jacket is more 3D than the movie.

Good and pretty entertaining but it should be better....

I can safely say that i was extremely pumped up from the first time isaw the first teaser from this movie...I am such a fan of the originaltron that I could not wait. For the same reason i was terrified that itcould be so bad that would kill the legacy of the original tron. I meanHollywood has a really bad tradition with sequels.Well the good news isthat the movie was actually good. The bad news is that it could be somuch better. No it ought be much better.I won't get to the technical details...I mean it is obvious from hetrailer that in this aspect the movie is brilliant. Visually stunning, good cinematography and an unbelievable soundtrack. Daft punk werealmost too great since i caught myself sometimes to just listening tothe music instead of watching the movie. Which does highlight themovies weaknesses. The characters were pretty good also. Bridges was just awesome, asusual, as he let a few bits of the "Dude" to spill into the movie.Hedlund, although not that great, was more then adequate for hischaracter. And Wilde(OMG she was beautiful) actually portrays a prettystrong character while on the same time managing to create avulnerability that really compels you to want to protect her. Somethinglike Fifth element's Leeloo but with a more subtle performance which isgood. Now for the bad stuff. Well obviously the story... Although not bad itjust did not go far enough to really interest you. And you could seethe potential. The idea of the ISO's and the genocide, the constantchase for perfection and the betrayal of clu can make for a really deepand compelling story but the movie never really delivers.Instead theplot only scratches these things superficially. And the worst was howthey wasted a character like Tron. OK granted that the actual maincharacter is flinn in both movies but the damn series in named afterthis character. In the first movie the whole goal was for him to reachthe I/O tower and he was essential for the resolution of the plot. Herehe does almost nothing extraordinary until the end, which is reallyvery predictable. And it is too bad since you see a great chance ofgood character development. The fact that he was captured and repurposed to serve Clu and how he struggles to escape from this throughhis relationship with with flinn could actually make for a prettycompelling story. It could easily be the main conflict of the plotinstead of that between Clu and Flinn. Instead here he is treated likea second class support character...I mean come on...The movie is namedafter this character and that is the best they could think for him...Itis a real shame...Anyway overall it is good and enjoyable but you can immediatelyrealized the potential this movie wasted.Too bad. Still I don't see whyany fan of the original could not find it at least a littleentertaining.

The most visually appealing film of 2010

TRON: Legacy has been one of the most promoted films of the year. Witha monstrous budget (around $200 million) and reports saying that Disneyis worried that the film isn't tracking as well as they'd hoped, theinitial thought process from these rumors is that the TRON sequel willopen to a disappointing first place weekend much like the most recentChronicles of Narnia film. As of this writing, I haven't gotten aroundto seeing the original film. I wanted to, but thanks to Disney it waspretty much pulled from every retail store imaginable whether youwanted to rent or purchase the film at least until next year. The urgeto see TRON: Legacy didn't really sink in until around the time thethird trailer was released. While the Daft Punk score has interested mefrom the beginning, TRON: Legacy just seemed like another overratedpiece of eye candy that fan boys were getting excited about. The thingabout first impressions though is that they always have the opportunityto be wrong. The glorified TRON sequel is getting a lot of mixed reviews from mostmovie critics. The problem seems to lie within the way the film iswritten and its screenplay. To tell the truth, you don't see a movielike this for a great story alone. The special effects are the mainattraction and boy, do they deliver. The way programs disintegrate whenthey're disposed of, the light cycle battles, airborne chases, and themany fight sequences in the film are just a small example of thedazzling display of some of the most exceptional and impressive specialeffects ever seen in a cinematic feature. As with most films that havebeen presented in 3D lately, the 3D effect probably isn't necessary toenjoy a film of this magnitude. It'll be just as entertaining if yousave yourself the extra $4 and see it in a conventional theater. The writing didn't seem as bothersome as much as other reports say. Itcertainly wasn't the best, but it seemed like enough to add just theright amount of depth to TRON: Legacy and give it more of a backgroundthan most films revolving around spectacular special effects. Therewere a few lines that bothered me. The main one being when Alan firstvisits Sam and Sam says something about his father probably eitherbeing dead or chilling in Costa Rica...or both. Wait, what? It justgives you this Weekend at Bernie's flashback with Bernie being replacedwith Kevin Flynn's limp carcass. Some of the lines Jeff Bridgesmuttered just made him seem way too much like The Dude from The BigLebowski, which seems awesome but really has no place in the TRONuniverse. Saying things like, "Check this out," or, "Radical, man,"followed by that stoner laugh of his really didn't help matters much. The weak points of the way the film is written are rectified with theway the film never lets your attention out of its choke-hold. You'll bedrawn to the screen the entire film; that's practically a guarantee. The right mindset for a film like this can make or break your opinionof the film. If you don't have inflated expectations and don't expectmuch more than impressive special effects, then you'll probably walkaway pleasantly surprised. I actually had a similar mindset duringAvatar, which seemed to also suffer/take advantage of groundbreakingspecial effects being more consuming than the story and had a similarresult. The cast is about as developed as can be expected. The real star of thefilm is Garrett Hedlund, who does a pretty decent job of carrying thefilm and being generally astonished that not only was his father alivebut the extraordinary world he always talked about actually existed.Jeff Bridges' performance isn't nearly as strong as his portrayal ofRooster Cogburn in True Grit, but he does have his moments. He seems toshine during his reunion with Hedlund and his strongest scenes are withHedlund alone while being rather flat the rest of the time. OliviaWilde's Quorra is interesting, as well. There's an intriguing twist toher character, but her fascination and curiosity revolving around theworld Sam is from is what gives her character heart. Michael Sheen didseem a bit too over the top at times as Castor, but that may have beenthe point. The biggest surprise was seeing Cillian Murphy cameo. Givenhis strong outings in films like Sunshine, Peacock, and Inception, itjust left me wanting to see more of his character in futureinstallments assuming this film does well enough to warrant a sequel(or sequels).TRON: Legacy is certainly the special effects extravaganza it's beenmade out to be all year. Its fantastic effects certify the sequel asbeing the most visually appealing film of the year. While the writingof the film isn't quite as polished as the special effects, therecertainly seems to be a good enough balance to keep the film afloat anddeliver an extremely entertaining way to kill two hours. As far as eyecandy goes, TRON: Legacy is an incredible and all around awesomeexperience.

That was a complete disappointment. It's like watching somebody playinga game for 2 hours, so your turn never comes. You can have your 3Dglasses on, you can have them off - doesn't matter. It's a crime tomake a movie like that! And here are couple more lines for the admins. That was a complete disappointment. A fun, entertaining, big special effects movie

Actually, I would give this a 7 and a half stars. I think a lot ofpeople (mostly reviewers) gave this a poor rating is that they hadtheir hopes set very high. You should come into this movie thinkingthat it will not be the best movie you will see and you should watch itfor the entertainment value. It is highly entertaining, fun and hasgreat visuals. The 3D is great even though it is not all 3D but has 2Dpieces to it too(in the right places). At the beginning you will seeyou are in for a visual treat just by seeing the Disney castle logobefore the movie. I think people are not really into very big specialeffect movies these days and that the good movies that has come out inthe past year or two kind of make people raise their expectations. Notthat you should lower them for this movie. Just be ready for a moviethat is fueled by tons of big special effects and not by plot.

GeneR777 (2012-05-20 20:37)

I think it was the best they could have done

Well, if anyone has ever seen the original Tron, you would know thatthere is quite a lot of inventiveness for that time period. That wasback in 1980-1982 when they were making the first film. To put someperspective of how inventive TRON was for the time think back andremember that the first Macintosh computer was still just a projectback at Apple, video games were mostly those sold on Atari cartridges. So the visuals at that time were mind-blowing to say the least. And ifyou watch it now and can understand what it meant at the time, yeah,it's still pretty impressive. But that was 1982. Almost 30 years later we have this legacy film. And guess what? It hasa lot of the same stuff we saw in the first film. And that is almost agiven because people loved the original because of the lightcycles, thegrid, etc. So it is almost a given that you have to have them in thefilm. Well, if you take this film as a paint by numbers a la Hollywood style, then we have the following: 1.) The obligatory homage of lightcycles, light tanks, light whatever-those-red-flying-things-are-called-with-the-long-arms. 2.) You have the obligatoryintroduction of the new world. 3.) You have the obligatory sexy chicks.Come on. If you're shaking your head on this, think about it: you stillhave to appeal to the teenage boys and above. 4.) You have theobligatory guy-girl relationship. 5.) You have the conflict betweenantagonist and protagonist. Build it within a three act structure wherethe resolution of the story comes with a struggle between the two mainforces leading to a resolution. Check. Okay, so what's really left then? We top out at a little over two hoursI believe. That's just about all you can really do in that much time. So bearing that, people might ask: why isn't it more innovative? Why isit staying too close to the source material? Well, there's a good reason: Because TRON was a cult film for certainreasons. You can innovate but you have to be true to the sourcematerial which is the core reason for any sort of fan base. So, overall I thought it was decent. Some of the gladiator stuff I hadto say was pretty cool. I liked the hot siren, and (of course) OliviaWilde. But otherwise it was what I expected. Nothing terriblyinnovative. But heck, I still got my money's worth.

Tron: Legacy - Bitter sweet for original TRON fans

Let me say this first. At 43 I am just glad that I lived long enough tosee a sequel to the original TRON film. I saw the first one in thecinema when I was 15 and ever since, it has remained my overallfavourite film of all time (and that's saying something, given the factthat I spent about 8 years working in the big budget film sector herein Sydney in the '90s and so I'm well versed on what it takes to bringa film such as "TRON" to the screen). That any sequel was made at allwas a miracle. But I must say that some aspects of "Tron Legacy" werean absolute delight while others were annoying and fell expectedly wellshort.I must strongly disagree that this film is short on story. It's rarenowadays to find a film of this genre with such a strong and complexplot line - one which kind of keeps you watching because you just haveto know what's going to happen next. However there was definitely fartoo little "tron" in TRON:LEGACY. Oh well. The film was enjoyable, the soundtrack refreshing (if not a little loudin the cinema we saw it in) and from the first frame it differentiateditself as unmistakably TRON. The most reassuring thing (to me) aboutthe film was that the producers resisted the urge to create the filmentirely in CGI and that the film was largely still deliberately drivenby live performances. The reported shortcomings of CLU were virtuallyinvisible to me anyway. Now the brickbats. The serious downfall with "TRON:LEGACY" is thealmost non existent art direction and seriously deficient productiondesign. The first TRON will always stand as an artistic masterpiece –and art was sadly the most lacking component in this almost annoyinglydark and monochromatic film which seems to have been shot entirelyusing black, blue and orange and just about nothing else. All the "Disney Hallmark" awe, wonder and "otherworldliness" of theoriginal TRON is completely absent from this film. The mastery of SydMead and the many other designers who set the artistic foundation forthe original TRON was completely ignored. The costume design wasatrocious, more like a leather biker gang bang than anything TRON like. The "Black on Black" colour scheme made movement hard to watch. Most of the ground rules set by the original TRON were well and trulybroken, leaving me somewhat feeling betrayed and confused. Othercritics have focused on Sam's arrival in the TRON world in his regularstreet clothes as the best example of this (and I agree) however inshort the TRON world didn't look anything like "another world" at all. The complicated procedure of transferring a human between worlds - doneso elegantly in the first film – was completely ignored in "TRON –LEGACY". Just about everything (including all the vehicles, clothingand especially Flynn's Pad) worked towards trying to convince us that"the grid" was a REAL place where the laws of physics and matter applyjust the same way as they do here on mother Earth. This (in my opinion)was a drastic mistake and centres on the biggest shortcoming of thisfilm. Sam's transfer into the computer world made it look more like hehad just walked into the next room rather than been transferred into analien, incredible and frightening alternate reality. To summarize. Both the original TRON and the very appropriately namedTRON:LEGACY stand alone as good films worthy of viewing in their ownright. Fans of the original (like me) will find themselves feelingshortchanged on some aspects but very satisfied with others. Audienceswho have not seen the original are likely to now want to seek it outand watch it. I can't but help thinking that TRON:LEGACY would have worked out farbetter (and more profitable) on a much smaller budget. The 3D worksvery well with this property. Given the 27 years we had to wait forTRON:LEGACY, no sequel could ever have lived up to the expectationsleft behind by the original. However the name now leaves us all insearch of the truth – a "legacy" between the two now truly exists – andit will be a brave director indeed who agrees to take the property toit's next level. Let's hope we don't have to wait another 27 years forthat to happen.Paul Matthews Sydney Australia http://artelex.com

Rehashing the same'ol

A rehash of the old concept - Adding some things from modern videogames, but otherwise it's just another rehash with a forced story totry and have it make sense. As such there is nothing original in thismovie, with its only plus point being good acting.Mediocre in the GFX department, about on par to what you'd expect. Samefor the (lack of) story, and the necessary and predictable "heavyfamily values" one can expect from a modern Disney Studios movie. If you want to push 3D movies, then you could be more original thandoing this. Seriously...My opinion? Don't waste your time and money on watching this. Mildlyentertaining for an afternoon outing - at most.

DancesInShadow (2012-05-19 00:04)

Aurally and visually stunning.

I'm old, so I was about when TRON first came out and as a kid loved theworld it created and let us see. A place we could only dream about orimagine brought out, teased from the depths of our imaginations andplaced on a screen for all to enjoy.I was one of the many who always wanted more TRON, and yet alwaysworried it was not going to touch the epic original or even come close.Hats off to Disney, they did a good job and I am pleased with theproject and more so at the potential for more. For me though this film was ALWAYS going to be about the sounds andvisuals, so long as the story/script was not a complete steaming pilethe film had great potential. & I don't know how much emphasis they putinto the Audio and Visuals but I was blown away by them and rejoicedeach and every time I got a rush down my spine as a new music sequencetingled my adrenaline to start flowing or a new stunning vista came onthe screen and made me make that "oooh pretty" noise. As mentioned by some of the other reviews, the story is a Father andSon saga, light and entertaining but nothing deep and heavy. StandardDisney stuff and acceptable for what it is. It's just a form of movingthe music and visuals along and it does the job without distracting toomuch form the important stuff, like sucking you into the world of TRONand blowing your mind with what you are seeing and hearing. There is however a lot of action, and it's pretty good. The pace isfine and the sequences flow well into one another. The plot has a fewtwists and turns to stop you getting bored and keep you into what ishappening. You are interested in the people and places so it ticksenough boxes to keep you entertained between the big set piece Audioand Visual moments. To be honest they did enough to weave in and out ofthe faster paced sections to the slower plot/story elements withoutleaving you stuck in a phase for too long so you got bored, and thentransitioned back into the thick of the action without leaving youfeeling like you missed a section of the film because you blinked. Now, the meat of the film, the music. If you like Jarre or Vangelis youare in for a treat, this has plenty of the old school ambient synthvibe to please the older generation mixed with enough new modern andfresh dance movement to hook a younger audience. They chose very wiselyletting Daft Punk do the music, they do not disappoint at all, theyalso look the part. ;) Only 2 films in the last 10 years have had asoundtrack that made me want to get the OST as soon as I could (ChasingLegends being the other one). It's enjoyable start to finish and foreverything from relaxing to out training on my bike. The bones of the film being the effects and visuals, and not let downby them at all. Coming from the roots of TRON the task was no easy oneas they were already legendary and had a distinct look and feel. Legacydoesn't set out to try and top the original, just does enough to comelevel with them but with a modern feel and look so it doesn't lookdated or leave you wondering why they didn't put any effort into them. You will spend plenty of time with your eyes wide sucking in richdetails and wishing other films could do half as much to make you enjoyjust looking at the scenery. All in all, TRON: Legacy is the real deal and not a let down, creditwhere it is due they did a really good job making sure it stood up toscrutiny from us old timers who remember TRON first time around yetensuring a new generation could get sucked into the digital world likewe did when we were kids.

Looking forward to it.

Saw Legacy in 3D first, then at regular 2D. While the 3D was good, the movie doesn't really lose anything by not seeing it in 3D.I agree with the previous reviewer, Bret Fetzer has not seen the movie. He's pontificating to cover up having only seen the trailers which are the only scenes he references. If you were a fan of Tron, you'll not be disappointed. The soundtrack alone is worth the price of admission. As a stand alone movie, it could have used a bit more setup, a bit more action, less Labowski--the character wasn't anything like that in the original--on Bridge's part, and a touch more time for the story telling and why ISO's were important. As this is rumored to be the first of a trilogy, more of that may be taken care of in future films. With the backdrop of Tron, I'd give the movie high marks. On it's own, It's a good looking movie that needs a bit more in the story telling and dialog to make it perfect.

Powerful Score, Fantastic Effects, Good Enough Plot

The score by Daft Punk is top notch, probably one of the best and mostpowerful scores I've heard in a in a long time. The music is perfectlyscored to the action, pace and tone of the movie. It is powerful, deep, and will rock your socks off. I can't say enough about it, other thanit made the movie. I'm almost certain they will get an Oscar nod.The effects are groundbreaking and take cyberspace to a whole newlevel. Not only will they get an Oscar for the effects, they willprobably win it.I'm not sure why this movie has gotten such negative reviews. The plotis good. Different in tone than the first, but good. Perhaps thesenegative reviews are coming from people who did not see or were notinfluenced by the first film. I came of age during the arcade era, andthe first movie captured that age perfectly. To see it come to lifeagain with this stunning movie was thrilling. I could see a few moreplot twists this movie could have explored, but it did a good enoughjob with attention to detail, some interesting conceptual ideas, andplenty of references to the old movie to be enjoyed by fans of thefirst movie.

Tron Legacy: Identity DIsc Collectible Packaging

This review is from: Tron: Legacy / Tron: The Original Classic (Five-Disc Combo: Blu-ray 3D / Blu-ray / DVD / Digital Copy in Identity Disc Collectible Packaging) (Blu-ray) The only difference between the Identity Disc version and the 5-disc Combo (in standard Blu-ray Packaging) is the Identity Disc Case. All the other materials included are exactly the same. The Identity Disc case lights up, but as a case, it isn't very good -- instead of having each DVD/Blu-ray being on a separate page, the discs are all stacked on top of each other. Additionally, the Identity Disc Case doesn't even hold all five discs of the set -- the fifth disc (Digital Copy) is included inside the cardboard backing envelope for the package and won't fit inside the Identity Disc case. The disc case is a little bigger than the DVD/Blu-ray discs that it holds. The discs are secured by a push tab, which is extremely hard to depress to release the discs. The outer packaging is made out of the flexible, super thin plastic that Disney tends to use for their box sets. For those that just want a display case for the discs, this is probably for you; but if you are like me and can see yourself pulling the discs out every time you want to watch the movie and possibly scratching them trying to pull them out of the case, the 5-disc in Blu-ray packaging will likely be much more satisfactory, and is a good $15-20 cheaper.Additionally the 5-disc set in Blu-ray packing has a lenticular print on the blu-ray jacket.

Packaging is Horrible

This review is from: Tron: Legacy / Tron: The Original Classic (Five-Disc Combo: Blu-ray 3D / Blu-ray / DVD / Digital Copy in Identity Disc Collectible Packaging) (Blu-ray) The movie aside, Disney should be ashamed of themselves for releasing a collector's edition with the this crappy mold-injected packaging and broken LED lights.

Tron Legacy 3D: Review of 3D Effect

Tron Legacy the movie (which I very much enjoy) was said to be groundbreaking in visual effects moviemaking, and in many ways, it's one of a kind. But as far as groundbreaking, they may have been referring to mapping Jeff Bridges younger face to another actor, as the 3D effects are not as groundbreaking as they could've been. What is the standard for great 3D? Great 3D: In the time of 3D Polarized Glasses, great 3D could be described as an effect clear and strong enough to warrant wearing the glasses. Depth that is easily discerned and clearly visible, so the foreground pops apart from the mid and background imagery. This is achieved when the cameras are far enough apart when appropriate.Inadequate 3D:Anything that is subdued to the point where you could choose to not wear the glasses and get about the same experience, is considered average 3D. Depth that is hard to discern and closer to being flat 2D than great 3D, so the foreground is almost on the same plane as the mid and background. This is achieved when the cameras are too close to each other when a better effect could've been accomplished.Unfortunately, as much as I was rooting for Tron Legacy's 3D considering the quality of the film itself, the 3D stereographers who filmed the movie's 3D failed to take advantage of really pushing the 3D to an unmistakable level of depth, as in Avatar 3D. Tron Legacy 3D is just average 3D. At rare moments, when Sam is being scanned before he enters the games, the 3D looks great. But the rest of the 3D in Tron Legacy unfortunately remains flat, perhaps by choice of the filmmaker. Film: 4/5. Great film, story, visuals, action and much improved pacing over Tron. 3D: 2/5. It's not as good as it could've been. Hopefully they get it right for Tron 3. The 3D ends up being "Do I really need to wear these glasses when the 3D is this weak? I'll just watch 2D for this one." And I didn't want to say that, but I'm being totally honest here. Buy the 3D version anyway, if you liked the movie and have a 3D TV. The 3D in TL is acceptable at best. If you say it's great 3D, you need to see better 3D effects to get some perspective...This review is really a call for Tron 3 filmmakers to really push the 3D envelope and not play it safe next time. If you agree the 3D could be improved even slightly, click YES.

Wrong title, should of been call Rinzla

This movie could of been called Rinzla or Clu, suggesting a mediocredeparture from a classic. It might be said that the original movie maynot have been exceptional plot wise but it had an undefined somethingthat spawned this sequel or whatever you might have call this.Any political undercurrent was missing and what little was talked aboutwasn't shown or the audience didn't connect with. Did Clu look indanger of losing through older Flynns inaction? Quorra gave someinsight to the genocide of her people cause she was a babe with atattoo but that's all the audience gets. Some cool effects but glow suits and ear-bursting static or cracklingnoises do not a sci-fi make. Perhaps Clu could escape the grid and runthe transport and planning here in Perth since he doesn't digimperfection, could use a program like that.I heard that good science-fiction is also a commentary on where we arecurrently and where we are all heading in the future but this movie hadas much to say about anything as Rinzla did!

Pure escapism, and thats a good thing...

Loved the first one, now I've had the fun of sharing both with my own children (all loved them both). The soundtrack was incredible visuals pure eyecandy (again a GOOD thing). I loved the little tips of the hat to the first movie such as Sam's comment about the door. When you watch/rent/buy this movie make sure you just want to sit back and have fun. It bothers me when I read reviews of movies such as this one and they tear it apart. The reviewers look for things that the movie was never meant to be about. Its meant to allow us to suspend belief for a couple hours out of our mundane existence and JUST HAVE FUN. If your so into nitpicking everything to death, do the rest of us a favor and go back into your box and don't leave. Enjoy the movie for what it was meant to be, entertainment. Stop looking for how things would be in the real world...don't we all get enough of that already?
