Home Sweet Home(well mayb not so sweet)

This movie lives up to the hype. It's just as funny if not funnier then I expected. Everyone was great, this is one of those movies that you can tell the cast had fun making. Which always makes a movie better. For the story, Marni was tortured by Joanna in high school and has spent her post high school life changing her view of herself and making herself a success. Now she's heading back home for her brother's wedding, but unbeknowst to her Joanna is the bride to be. Things get further tangled when Joanna's aunt Ramona comes into the picture. Ramona and Gail(Marni's mom) also share some high school history. But has the mean girl really changed and does she deserve a second chance. Kristen Bell(Marni) + Odette Yustman(Joanna) are great as the bullied and the bully. And Jamie Lee Curtis(Gail) + Sigourney Weaver(Ramona) are equally good as, well I'll let you figure that out. And how can I leave out the great Betty White as Grandma Bunny, always funny no matter what. There is also a great supporting cast w/ Victor Garber as Mark(Marni's father), Jimmy Wolk as Will(Marni's brother/Joanna's fiancee), Sean Wing as Charlie(Will's friend), Kyle Bornheimer as Tim(Joanna's ?), Kristin Chenoweth as Georgia(the wedding planner), and Billy Unger as Ben(Marni's younger brother). The story line is predictable but it's so funny/cute that you won't even care. A great cast and a funny(although predictable)story make this one of those movies that's few and far between. You'll enjoy the ride and it'll make you laugh. What more can you ask for. So give it a look see you'll be glad you did.

i found this movie quite creative and engaging, good for the whole family. curtis and weaver are matched perfectly together. cute story of conflict and redemption and the lingering effects of the high school blues. funny

Movie is okay, but a few priceless moments

This review is from: You Again (Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo) (Blu-ray) There are a few funny moments in this movie. Betty White is a always a pleasure to watch. Watch for Sean Wing in a supporting role. He is good, and we will see more of him.

Avoid this!

This movie was so poorly written. There are just too many things bad about it to even list them. The good things? Betty White had some funny lines and the last scene with her and Cloris Leachman was funny. The dancing scenes and the revenge tactics were just silly and not needed. What a waste of not only a good cast but there was a possibility of a cute movie that was ruined by horrible writing.

You Again: 1/10

Marty was the loser whom everyone made fun of in high school includingJoanna, her soon-to-be sister in-law. In Marty's opinion, Joannasing-handedly ruined her life in high school. So the thought of havinga sister in-law that was your enemy in high school freaked Marty out.She tries everything to get her brother to realize that Joanna isn'twho he thinks she is. Doing everything in her power includingdestroying her brother's wedding and breaking her brother (literally),Marty, of course realizes that she did the wrong thing. In the end, they get married and lived happily ever after. From the start of the movie, we see they all hated one another and bythe end, predictably they made up. The so-called comedy is so dull forthe most parts, that only the lowpoints scored giggles. The almostlaughter that was probably the highest this comedy can get is betweenBetty White and Cloris Leachman near the end.You Again's characters are obviously popular, but like the charactersthemselves, the movie gets old with the predictable story and cheesydialogue.RazzieBuzz: Worst Actress (Kristen Bell), Worst Picture, WorstScreenplay (if they have this category)

Ouroboros umbrage

Weird. "You Again", a teen movie about bullying, is largely hatedbecause viewers want the film's bully to be bullied and not "livehappily ever after". It's an anti-bullying movie that turns jealousaudience members into little bullies.Beyond this the film is well acted by the always fun to watch Jaime LeeCurtis and Sigourney Weaver, both of whom continue to struggle to findwell-written roles. Interestingly, the film's bullied heroes merelyinternalise pain and violently lash out later, further perpetuatingabusive cycles. In this regard the film revolves around severalgenerations of victims and abusers, and its title itself suggests thatthese meetings will continue long into the future. It's "Cache" forteens and kids.7.9/10 – Worth one viewing.

Geek to Sheek

Let me get this out, I adore both Jamie Lee Curtis and SigourneyWeaver, when I saw the trailer to You Again, I wanted to love thismovie so badly. Just because it has these two great actresses in it.Well, I caught it on the movie channel and now I can see why it wasvoted one of the worst movies of the year. I can forgive Jamie andSigourney as they are older and have made some great career choices, they are allowed a mistake or two. However, what is Kristen Bell andOdette Yustman's excuses? They both had promising careers withForgetting Sarah Marshall and Cloverfield and are now messing it upwith their latest choices like When in Rome and The Unborn. The plot isactually really good, but the way they sugar coated it, it turned intoa total disaster of a film and completely wasted my time.Marni, an acne-riddled high school senior with glasses and braces, reveals how she is tormented and bullied by other girls, specificallyJoanna, who made Marni's high school life miserable. Years later, in2010, however, she is a successful public relations executive, recentlypromoted to a job in New York. When she flies home to her olderbrother's wedding, she discovers her brother Will is about to marryJoanna. Marni is also upset to see that Joanna fits in very well withthe family. The plot thickens when her mother Gail meets up withJoanna's aunt Ramona, Gail's former best friend who pushed her into apool at their senior prom. Ramona is now a successful, wealthy womanwho owns several hotels and a private plane. Now they must all getalong for her brother's sake, but it's a matter of letting the past go.One of the major things that annoyed me is Betty White. Since she was"so adorable" in The Proposal, they figured they needed a "hip granny"for this movie too, it was rather pathetic and she looks like she'sjust about to give up on life. Then with the plot, it's like it hadbipolar disorder, it just didn't know what it wanted. First Joanna isevil, then she's good, then she's evil, then she's good, then she'sevil again, then she's good again? It didn't work, why not just makeher evil all the way? Then our "hero", Marni, is just as evil asJoanna. She can't let go of the past and just makes a total fool ofherself during the movie. How is her character likable? She says sheloves her brother so much, yet she can't let high school go? Peoplechange and she never gave Joanna a chance to see if she had grown up ornot. For someone who is so successful now, you'd think she would putthat as her revenge. Then to top it all off, they end the movie with throwing a random guywho has 5 minutes of screen time as Marni's love interest. God forbidthey have a girl remain single in a film, it's just so sad to leave heralone. The only thing I found redeeming about this movie was Jamie andSigourney, they had great chemistry and honestly I would have ratherhad the movie be about them. They were spot on with their comedy andwere great to see on screen bouncing off each other with their lines. But this was just a horrible movie, pathetically put together and Iwould say just stay away from this movie. I can forgive Jamie andSigourney, but I pity the other fools who took some zangy drugs to sayyes to this script.1/10

A comedy centered around confronting and overcoming high school rivalries

This is a great end of summer comedy. Even with a PG rating, it haslaughs for all ages thanks to the great acting of its cast. SigourneyWeaver and Jamie Lee Curtis, and Kristen Bell and Odette Yustman actbrilliantly opposite of each other. There are some very funny and unexpected cameos as well as greatsupporting acting, especially by the love sick and a little mentallysick character, Tim. I'd say this is probably the best date film out intheaters now. Betty White steals most of the scenes she's in which isno crime by me. This movie is best enjoyed if you're up for something alittle silly. Then again, when is a comedy ever supposed to be takensuper seriously? You Again is definitely worth a look, especially as adate movie or family movie.

Bell, Curtis, Weaver and White

I managed to catch most of this silly comedy the other night, and Ihave the feeling I was better off having missed the finale. Youngprofessional Kirsten Bell comes home for her brother's wedding, only todiscover he is engaged to an old high school bully. To make mattersworse, the bully's snooty aunt (Weaver) turns out to have been a rivalof Bell's mother (Curtis) in their school days. The comedy is forcedand artificial, but it was a delight to watch these gals in action.Betty White is thrown in for good measure as Grandma Bunny, and stealsevery scene she's in. I must admit I have an inordinate fondness forBell, a perky light leading lady whom I first became aware of in 2006'sPULSE, and she does a decent job here. Her character was a nerd inschool who blossomed into an attractive young woman, and she comes fullcircle when she must temporarily wear glasses, has her hair badly cutand sports facial blemishes from insect bites that resemble her long-ago acne. She makes it all believable. Kristin Chenoweth has a funnyscene as the wedding planner. See it for Curtis' high kicking from hercheerleading days.

You Again ! Well Done Comedy with Life Lessons!

What could have been a tawdry reliving of past negative sophomoricexperiences is transformed into a delightful multidimensional range ofemotions and full character development.Andy Fickman could have done it on the cheap, and skated on the veneersurface of the characters, but he thoughtfully and painstakinglybrought out the complete development of real people and we were allowedto see the nascent of those actions.Remember all of those unforgettable characters in high school, or doyou really want to ? Not all of them were pleasant, and Marni OliviaOlsen/MOO( Kristen Bell) has the scars and the crosses to prove it. Anoutcast in high school Marnia is now a successful executive and movingup the corporate ladder. But, the engagement and future wedding of herbrother have rekindled some old hostilities and she wants themresolved, any way possible. Brother Wil(James Wolk) is engaged to the lovely, talented andphilanthropic Joanna(Odette Yustman). The same high school cheerleaderwho used to torment Marni/MOO.Not convinced of her change of heart, Marni crusades to expose Joannaas a shallow and vindictive gold-digger. But this also exposes Marni'sdarker side, and she becomes a little Joanna.Apparently, high school rivalries are generational, and GailOlsen(Jamie Lee Curtis) and Joanna's Aunt Ramona( Sigourney Weaver)also had issues at the same small town high school, during theiradolescence. So, the situation becomes multi-complex ,and the claws come out, butwho is correct, or judgmentally right ? You'll have to decide in thisvery entertaining look at love and revenge. Sometimes , you just haveto resolve your conflicts with tenderness and mercy. Look for Tim(KyleBornheimer) as the rejected suitor of Joanna, I'm sure you've seensomeone like him before. Grandma Bunny(Betty White) has a small part,so don't look for much screen time from her. She is hilarious.8 stars for vetting out the growing. process.

You Again, should be Not Again

Very Disappointing as I think it is a fantastic cast of actors. Luckily rented from redbox and was only a dollar, as I planned to purchase it, until I saw the movie. I love Betty White, this movie did not do her justice or the other cast members. Too Bad!

What happens in high school should stay in high school

(Synopsis) Marni (Kristen Bell), a new Vice President of a large PublicRelations Agency, is returning home for her brother Will's (James Wolk)wedding. Marni discovers that his bride Joanna (Odette Yustman) is herformer arch nemesis in high school who made her life a living hell.Joanna is now an angel in her brother's eyes, absolutely not thememories that Marni has of her tormentor. All of this is compounded bythe fact that the bride's wealthy Aunt Romona (Sigourney Weaver) fliesinto town and comes face to face with Marni's mother Gail (Jamie LeeCurtis), who it turns out has an old high school score to settle withGail. Marni must protect her brother by showing him Joanna's truecolors before he makes the biggest mistake in his life. The claws areabout to come out.(My Comment) The movie itself is not that appealing as a romanticcomedy, but it had a great female cast. The storyline is based on asmall premise that what happens in high school lives with you foreverwhich is absurd. Kristen Bell's performance as the pathetic pimply facegirl with low self esteem, pressed into getting revenge, was right ontarget, and Odette Yustman as her rival was also good. I think thewriters wasted the great talents of Sigourney Weaver and Jamie LeeCurtis. However, Betty White steals every scene she is in. PatrickDuffy and someone else (I won't say) make a cameo appearance. Afterabout 45 minutes, the story was a little boring, but it picked up bythe end. The lesson that is taught by this story is that you must learnfrom your past and everyone is entitled to a second chance, "maybe"?(Touchstone Pictures, Run Time 1:45, Rated PG)(4/10)

You Again blends the high school/wedding drama of Never Been Kissed, 27 Dresses, and Monster in Law

I thought this movie was pretty funny. It's not hilarious, but has a good storyline and a few chuckles. Kristen Bell stars as Marni. During high school, she was constantly bullied by Joanna. Eight years later, she finds out that her brother, Will is marrying Joanna. Marni has 48 hours to get her revenge and prove that Joanna is still a bully. I highly recommend YOU AGAIN!!!

Best Chick Flick

Kristen Bell, Jamie Lee Curts, Sigourney Weaver, Odette Yestman and Betty White star in this chick flick movie. Marni (Kristen Bell) is in town for her brother, Will's (Jimmy Wolk) wedding. Marni realizes that Will is marrying the girl who bullied her in high school, Joanne, (Odette Yustman). Marni tries to break-up Will and Joanna. I love this movie. I would recommend this movie.

kinda sorry I bothered with it in the first place.

I'm not going to bore anyone with another synopsis of thisfilm...partly because there really was nothing memorable about it. Ithad a few parts that I found humorous enough to make me chuckle...atbest...though they were very few and far between. For the most part, Ifound this film to be trite and overwhelmingly predictable...there wasnothing about it that I didn't know in the first 10 minutes...and ittook that long only because I spent the first 5 screwing around onFacebook.I tried to like it...really I did. Otherwise I would've turned it off.The disappointment in this film isn't only the choice of flatactors...but that we've seen the story 500 bazillion times before...weall know it by heart. Won't it be nice when writers start doing newstories again?I found that this film is okay (at best) for little more than mindlessbackground noise while you do something more entertaining.I'm sorry Jamie Lee, I've always been a big fan of yours...but,really?!

you again review

I see a lot of movies and one of the movies that really surprised me the most is YOU AGAIN. It is so well written, so well acted and just left a smile on my face throughout the entire movie because it was so hilarious -- yet it was also so heartfelt -- these characters are really likeable people and the situations they get into is just so well done. I highly recommend

A few laughs but for no real purpose

"You Again" pits Kristen Bell versus her high school arch nemesis andrelies on her physical comedy. Bell is always very likable and it'seasy to get the audience on her side. And at least here her comedictiming is improving especially over her recent "When in Rome" debacle. It's fairly funny and the stars all work well together and let us feelas if we're apart of this family. This is just a comedy. They went for slapstick instead of lessons onthe malice of society. Bullies don't mature, and never recognize theharm they cause. So despite the film's insistence that this is not afairy tale, it really is. The relationship and interaction betweenJamie Lee Curtis and Sigourney Weaver is more realistic, but stillwouldn't be as neat and shiny as portrayed."You Again" gives nothing of essence or real meaning. Just a few laughsfor no greater purpose – though judging by the theatre-going audiencethat's all they were looking for. I'm disappointed, but not surprised, that Hollywood chose yet again not to tread on more truthful ground.

Quick Question/observation.

Sigourney Weaver was in the movie "Working Girl" in which there is ascene where she about to go to Switzerland and her assistant was unableto get the suite she wanted. She calls the hotel in Switzerland andsays something to the effect of "Sven, guten haagen", so nice to talkto you. There was a similar scene in You Again with SW uses the exactsame lines. I can't imagine this is accidental, but I haven't seenanything pointing it out on the Trivia boards and there are too manyposts about this movie to read through them all, so I am taking thechance that someone besides myself recognized this. If you have, pleaselet me know!!

Enjoyable

Interesting enough to capture your attention. Great characters, some big name actors (Jamie Lee Curtis, Betty White, Kristen Chenowith), cute guys.

Small World

This review is from: You Again (DVD) This is one of the most original plots that I have seen in awhile. The lead's brother is marrying his sister's arch nemesis from high school whose mother happens to also be her mom's arch nemesis whose grandmother happens to be her grandma's arch nemesis. How they all resolve their past rivalries and help make amends makes for a refreshing and entertaining view.
