Where have you gone Heather Thomas???

The only reason to watch this God awful movie is for HeatherThomas. The story is stupid. The acting BAD.The special effects(if you want to callit that)are horrendous.Makes you wonder how this sort of drivel getsproduced!

James Sanford (2012-05-24 14:45)

so wretchedly unfunny, it boggles the mind

ZAPPED FINALLY!

I couldn't believe that ZAPPED was finally released on DVD. I remember watching this film over millions of time on HBO when I was younger. Heather Thomas was a babe. I recall giving this film an A+. I'm over the fact that the film is A+ material, but it worth watching again for the memories of the innocent 80's where nudity ruled.

Great teensploitation ... this is a classic :)

If you're an 80's teen movie fan, this parody of Carrie is definitely wortha look. So what if Scott Baio can't act? It's a one gag picture, but it hasits moments.

Genius!

Words escape me, when commenting here...I can't think of a single flawedmoment throughout the whole picture. This is simply great! Especiallythepart where Barney (GREAT NAME BY THE WAY!!!)and his friend beat up thoseguys at the park with Barney using his telekenetic powers....absolutelyhillarious!!! How this didn't receive recognition at the Oscars eludes me!This is an absolute gem that won't get it's deserved recognition untilabout2300 when the aliens from Cintron come down and take things over (justdon'ttell anyone). Oh, and did I mention the ending? Didn't think so.Anyway, rent this movie today, or better yet, don't.

Zap This One Out of Your System!

Some movies are just plain awful, and ZAPPED! has awful written all overit.Scott Baio stars as a high school kid who gains telekinetic powers afterexperiencing a scientific mishap. The movie is a trial to sit throughanddoes not contain a single laugh. It is even worse than MODERN PROBLEMSandthat movie was bad enough. I was never really a Scott Baio fan, althoughhedid have a good role on TV's "Happy Days," but ZAPPED! is quite easilytheworst teen movie I have ever seen in my whole life.0 out of 5

Sirsharp (2012-05-20 03:48)

What don't they make movies like this anymore!

***CONTAINS SPOILERS***On the surface this is a typical 80's teen movie, but with a twist. ScottBaio Plays the role Barney Springboro. A misunderstood teen scientistwithdreams of inventing something big.Well do to a comedy of errors, something he is working on explodes. Thusgiving him telekinetic powers. Guided by the help of his so called bestfriend, Peyton Nichols (Willie Aames) he begins using his powers togamble. This upsets his newly found girlfriend Bernadette (Felice Schachter).Aftersome much needed thought, he realizes his powers can be used for much moreinteresting things.Heather Thomas plays the "hot" chick, Jane Mitchell. The girl all theguysfollow around with the mouths watering. This movie has a much over looked soundtrack with some great songs byDavidPomeranz.*Movie does contatin a lot of nudity, as did many 80'smovies.*I give it 7 out of 10

biggest regret of my life

One of the biggest regrets of my life was being in a video store about 10 years ago and seeing a new copy of Zapped for 12 bucks. I had the money but decided to buy beer with it. It still stings (but not as bad since you can get anything on Amazon now) The hunter doesn't hunt for the kill he hunts for the hunt. The Baio/Ames comedy tandem rivals Akroyd/Belushi in terms of comic timing and hilarity. One of my all-time favorite scenes is in this moving with an under the influence Scattman Crothers and some sort of gun that fires hot dogs or baloney (can't remember)

Good for nostalgia, not much else

Way back in 1983, when I was 11 1/2, I saw _Zapped!_ on HBO. The funnypartabout it was that my grandmother, who was visiting at the time, wanted toknow what I wanted to watch, so she took out the HBO Guide and read theblurb on it. I clearly remember her reading aloud, "Scott Baio stars astheboy who can maneuver both a baseball and the buttons on a girl's blouse,"and (POTENTIAL SPOILER), although I can't remember the exact words, how heblows off everybody's clothes at the prom. She insisted on sitting up withme, presumably for my protection. Well, she fell asleep, so I got to watchthe whole thing. But even at 11 1/2, I was surprised at how tame the moviewas (except for the nude scenes). I got to thinking about _Zapped!_recently, so I bought a VHS copy to watch it again. What do I think aboutit19 years later? Read on.According to the IMDb, _Zapped!_ was originally rated PG, but thefilmmakersadded the nude scenes to raise the rating to an R. Watching it again, I'dhave to agree: the entire film seems like a made-for-TV movie or an afterschool special. There's only mild, PG-rated profanity, no gross-outscenes,and nothing really offensive (unless you consider the nude scenesoffensive). What you have, then, is a PG-rated movie with some incongruousnudity added. And it probably doesn't help any that _Zapped!_ was made in1982, a bland year if ever there was one.Unfortunately, the acting is bland along with the rest of the movie. Thethree leads were all TV actors (Baio from _Happy Days_, Aames from _EightisEnough_, and Schachter from _The Facts of Life_), so they resort to thatbland TV style of acting, making _Zapped!_ seem even more like atelevisionproduction trapped in a feature film's body. Scatman Crothers, as thebaseball coach, and Eddie Deezen, in his brief appearance at the frathouse, are better, but their talents are wasted here. The special effects involving levitation are quite good, and even thoughtheanimation used looks cheesy today (remember, _Zapped!_ was made 20 yearsago), it's still fun to watch and see how far computer animation hascome. But unfortunately, _Zapped!_ isn't funny. The main reason for this isprobably that the filmmakers play it too safe, supporting the theory thatthe movie was originally supposed to be rated PG. Yes, I know that BaioandAames were TV stars, so they wanted to make a movie that their youngerstarscould go see in the theater (home video wasn't that big in '82, so you hadto get 'em into the theaters). But there were many PG-rated movies at thattime (_Airplane!_ immediately comes to mind) that pushed the envelope, sothe original rating is really no excuse.Personally, I only found two good scenes in this movie: 1) the scene afterthe baseball game, when Baio gets revenge on the people in theconvertible;and 2) the prom scene (of course). When I watched _Zapped!_ for the secondtime, I had seen _Carrie_, so I appreciated the prom scene a lot more(including the "prism" shot of Heather Thomas, taken directly fromDePalma'sfilm). It was interesting to watch _Zapped!_ again and see how much of it Iremembered (which was a lot), and those early 80s clothes and hair arealways a hoot, but the movie itself was disappointing. I'd recommend thisonly if you're a fan of any of the cast, or if you want to relive theearly80s.

not one of the better 80's comedies.

Though this is watchable, it does get a little played after awhile. For somereason, this movie isn't as good as one thinks it could be, when you firsthear what its about. I think zapped could have been a little more creatviein how the powers were actually put to use, to many girls being disrobed etcetc, it's fun at first-but there's nothing done thats spectacular orstrongly memorable. It is just a nice little movie about a boy who developsspecial powers. The movie could have had more of a field day with creativeinnovative ways to use those powers! But nothing special happens atall. This movie isn't especially terrible but cannot come close to some of themore well done 80's movies, not enough creativity went into developing anentertaining idea. The movie becomes a bit to formulatic and "beenthere, done that". I'd give this just a 5 out of 10. Not bad, but notparticularly good either.

A sublimely stupid piece of 80's teen comedy trash

Nerdy high school science whiz Barney Springboro (a likable performanceby Scott Baio) acquires telekinetic powers after being exposed to anexperimental batch of premium grade marijuana. Barney uses his newfoundabilities to create all kinds of comically wild havoc which includeshelping his hip, wealthy best friend Payton (a winningly breezy turn byWillie Aames) hook up with snarky, yet desirable cheerleader JaneMitchell (a delightfully bitchy portrayal by Heather Thomas).Director/co-writer Robert J. Rosenthal relates the amusingly sillystory at a constant snappy pace, does a solid job of maintaining alight and breezy tone throughout, and tosses in an entertaininglynonstop barrage of admittedly dumb, but still funny lowbrow humor. Aninspired send-up of "Star Trek" rates as one definite gut-bustinghighlight. The prom dance climax which cheerfully parodies theconclusion of "Carrie" likewise hits the sidesplitting spot. The livelyand engaging acting from a game cast qualifies as a major plus: theadorable Felice Schachter as sweet school newspaper reporter geekBernadette, Robert Mandan as pompous principal Walter J. Coolidge,Scatman Crothers as cranky baseball coach Dexter Jones, Greg Bradfordas jerky college preppie Robert Wolcott, Sue Ane Langdon as ditsyEnglish teacher Rose Burnhart, and Hilary Beane as sexy secretaryCorinne Updike. Roger Bowen and Mews Small are hilarious as Barney'suptight and overbearing ultra-conservative parents. Eddie Deezen has asmall role in one of his standard dweeb parts. The gorgeous JewelShepard pops up (and out) for a brief, but nice topless scene. DanielPearl's slick cinematography gives the picture an attractive polishedlook. The bouncy soundtrack, the endearingly chintzy (less than)special effects, and several vintage cornball early 80's musicalmontage sequences all further add to the infectiously goofy merriment. An absolute hoot.

"I found your pepperoni - you bowl-legged son of a..."

Zapped has only two redeeming values...the fact that it showcases thetalents of the late, great Scatman Crothers (NOT a pinnacle of hiscareer) and more importantly...the big screen debut of the lovely MissHeather Thomas. Other than that, this movie is best watched after many, many beers...even then it may not be watchable. The story is asoft-core porno meets an ABC after-school special...lotsa boobs, extremely bad story-line, a "Star Trek" sequence that must be seen tobe believed (or disbelieved!)...But somehow the 10 minutes that HeatherThomas graces the screen makes it all seem worthwhile...HmmmmmmmmmmmmSkip the lame sequel at all costs! (Even Linda Blair doesn't save it!)As Scott Baio's father asks him: "Son, are you on dope?" - - you'd haveto be to enjoy this one!

Good when nothing else is on.

This movie is one of the better goofy teen movies of the early 80's. Themovie gets a bad review by people who don't see it for what it is. Thisisa movie that when nothing is on you will gladly waste 1-2 hours watching.Movie is clean and silly. Think of what you would do with the powersScottBaio has in this movie. Soundtrack is typical early 80'scheese.

So -so Movie Fantastic one liner

I like many viewers saw Zappped! when I was a hormone crazed teenager. However even then I know what I was watching was drivel. However, Willie Ames character delivers a one liner of comeuppance to Heather Thomas character in the prom scene finale that is pure dialogue gold!! If you can catch this one cable one night or at the rental store wait for that scene it is priceless!!

(2012-05-13 01:50)

Zapped hits the spot.

I remember the first time I saw this movie. It was instantly likable. I'm not a big fan of Scott Baio, but the movie itself intrigued me. And I'm not talking about the clothes ripping off scene everyone else seems to obsess over. The idea of telekinesis being possible through some magic potion. I've always been one to "want to impossible" ... So, when is it coming to DVD? Or is it?

nwestwood1 (2012-05-12 10:36)

only worth watching for Heather Thomas & Jewel Shepard

This film is is pure 80s crud. However it does have one obvious thinggoing for it. Attractive 80s female day-players running around halfdressed! Not to mention the cut price Heather Lockleah ( Heather Thomasor possibly her double) in a state of undress- yummy! This also appliesto the dead sexy Jewel Shepard !!!!!!!!!!! That is why I have awardedthis masterpiece 2 out of 10, instead of 1! Apart from that is totallyand utterly unwatchable. Scott Baio was and still is a third rate SteveGuttenburg. However I do like the UK video sleeve of this awful movie! But this was a long time ago. I can see why any actor involved in thisrubbish is too ashamed to admit starring in it!

(2012-05-10 23:48)

You Can telekinesis, but will he listen?

They say power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. I wonder?A laboratory explosion (caused by some very common substances in uncommon combinations) resulting in telekinesis. It could not happen to a better kid, Barney Springboro (Scott Baio) High school senior. What would you do to flex your new found powers? His best buddy Peyton Nichols (Willie Aames) has plans, Las Vegas plans. Bernadette (Felice Schachter) has reservations. Oops it is prom time, can he resist the Carrie treatment? And what of his future? We know that in real life Felice Schachter goes on to become the "1990 St. Pauli Girl"

This movie will blow your mind!

Please excuse my excessive fawning, but I would nominate "Zapped" for Movieof the Year, if I weren't nearly 20 years too late. Like thousands ofAmerican men, I first got hipped to the one-two comedy punch of Aames andBaio back in college when I briefly experimented with reruns of the hitcomedy programme "Charles in Charge." I had heard about it when it duringits prime-time run in the 1980's, but I was too square to check it out atthe time. After the first episode "CiC" (which, by the way, was set in MYcollege town of New Brunswick, NJ!), I was hooked - and it's a habit thatalways needs a little more each time.Fortunately, "Zapped" delivers! I swear, you can watch this movie over andover and over, and you'll always catch something that you missed before. Like when Chachi and Lembeck use their psychic powers to get the girls. It's so funny because it's true! I worked on a similar project when I wasin college, but the best that I could do was create a dream woman out ofnewspaper clippings (just kidding!!!). Also, Scatman Crothers gives theperformance of his lifetime as Dexter Jones, remeniscent of his earlierportrayal of Dewey Stevens on "The Harlem Globetrotters on Gilligan'sIsland" of the year before. I think everyone should go out and rent - no,make that BUY -a copy of "Zapped" today - trust me, your life will never bethe same!
