| Storyline | A group of zoo animals decide to break their code of silence in order to help their lovable zookeeper (Kevin James) find love -- without opting to leave his current job for something more illustrious. woman. |
I am a big Kevin James fan and also love those silly "animals can talk" type movies. I thought this was really cute and I enjoyed it. Kevin James plays the usual funny chubby guy that you cant help but to love. Dont take this movie to seriously. Just enjoy it for the many funny laughs and the in general silliness. Dont expect a complicated story line. Just enjpoy Kevin James doing his thing and appreciate the cuteness of the talking zoo animals. Good for kids and adults. A nice clean comedy:)
The movie is severely underrated by Critics and some audience membersalike. It contains some seriously funny comedy that is suitable formostly all ages except I would say children under 8. (The "bad word"hell is used a few times).Apart from this, the movie had great humor and a good heart. The storyhas been used, but hey, you can say that about almost any movie thesedays. I think the movie needs more credit than what it is given, and Ithink after reading this, you should go watch it. You wont bedisappointed! Don't listen to those critics on Rotten Tomatoes! Thanksfor taking the time to read this, and I hope you enjoy the movie if youhave not seen it yet.
another romantic comedy, hmm let's see. First start with Kevin James who is a Zookeeper who was in love with Leslie Bibb's character. His failed proposal five year earlier still has him heartbroken for her. When this former flame reenters his life he suddenly finds his ability to talk to animals. The animals in the zoo attempt to help Kevin James score with his ex in very crude and unfunny ways. Eventually he realizes that he has moved on and now actually is in love with the Zoo's vet played by Rosario Dawson. The whole movie is one giant stupid animal joke after another. I suppose if you are a 13 or 14 year old this movie would actually be funny but for the rest of us it got old very quick. The chemistry between Kevin James and Leslie's Bibb's characters are very fake and unbelieveable at best. The only real spark in this movie at all is Rosario Dawson, who is surprisingly strong for such a weak story. My best advice is to pass on this.
Don't get me wrong, I am a big fan of Kevin James. I loved King of Queens, Paul Blart, even had the odd laugh at Grown Ups (I won't mention The Dilemma), but this is one dumb movie. Sure, there are a couple of chuckle scenes, but most of the movie just entails prat falls and silly noises. Most movies have one annoying character, Star Wars had Jar Jar Binks, Lion King had Timone, this has a little monkey called Donald (He needs to find a new agent by the way, as the other movie he was in this year was The Hangover Part II). I just couldn't quite put my finger on why he was so annoying until I discovered who played his voice then it all made sense - Adam Sandler!Surprisingly, Sylvester Stallone, Nick Nolte, John Favreau and even Cher have voice overs in this giant cow pat of a film, but it doesn't help, unfortunately.
This review is from: Zookeeper (DVD) MY GRANDCHILDREN COULDN'T QUIT LAUGHING AT THIS MOVIE. IT IS FUNNY AND ENTERTAINING. WE THOROUGHLY ENJOYED THIS ONE. HAD TO HAVE ONE FOR EACH HOUSEHOLD. RECOMMEND.
This movie is hilarious!!!! If you are looking for a funny family film, this is a good one!!! I have watched this at least 5 times and it is still hilarious. It's in my top ten movies of the year.
I hated this movie, kept fast-forwarding it to get through it and find something of value. The animal voices were irritating at best, the jokes vulgar and disgusting. Just no redeeming value at all. Nothing funny about it. Don't waste your time or your money on this garbage! The writers should be ashamed of wasting so much money producing such a waste of time, then promoting it as a great funny movie.
ZookeeperOne of the benefits to being a zookeeper is having access to all ofthose exotic meats. And while the animal handler in this comedy isn't in it for the RedPanda sausage, he does love to eat. When hefty, head zookeeper Griffin (Kevin James) is asked by hisbrother to host an engagement party at the zoo, he agreeswhole-heartedly.However, when his haughty ex-girlfriend Stephanie (Leslie Bibb) showsup at the shindig, Griffin loses his cool.Later, when reacquainted, Stephanie's torch for Griffin is re-lit.But when her request for him to change careers resurfaces, the animalsat the zoo (Adam Sandler, Cher, Sylvester Stallone, Nick Nolte) havesomething to say about it.While James' charisma can sustain Zookeeper for a span, this cringeworthy family-comedy should ultimately be kept in captivity. As for how to make the zoo a more hilarious place to visit, feed theanimals fermented fruit. (Green Light)
After reading all the reviews I had to write mine. As someone elsestated, this was a very funny comedy that you can watch with yourfamily. People who wrote all the bad reviews definitely didn't botherwatching the movie or they have no idea what a comedy is all about. Themovie had some very good punch lines that make you laugh pretty hardand Kevin James was very good (I watched most of his movies and King OfQueens and still find him funny)! I have seen all sort of comedies, from the worst to the best one, and this one was a very good one and byfar one of the best comedies in 2011 so far (much funnier than hangover2 - and I am a fan). So if you like laughing, definitely a must-see!Again, people who voted this below 5, definitely have no idea on comedyand they should probably stay with drama & action movies. Comedy isabout funny punch lines and a good script to keep you through the "moreserious" scenes. This movie has it. Don't expect something different inthe plot, you know the start, you know the beginning and you know theending, but the way everything is happening is very funny. I feltsleepy going in the theater (10:30pm on a Sunday) and I came outsmiling! That's what a comedy is all about!
Some basic background about me and this movie: I honestly did not wantto see this movie. I walked out of Eddie Murphy's Dr. Doolittle yearsago, and thought this would be about the same. I'm also not a big KevinJames fan. Then, my Niece (who is in her 30's) told me she took herthree young children (all under the age of seven) to see this movie afew days ago. She told me that the kids seemed to basically like themovie, but that she "loved it"... finding it an over-all fun andfast-paced-humor movie. Despite my serious doubts, I went today with afriend. Look... this is not a top ten comedy of all time movie. However, I left having the same feelings about it as my Niece (whichsurprised me very much.) The bottom line for me: Really loved gettingto see and hear so many fantastic movie stars! Cher! Adam Sandler! DonRickles! Well... there are tons of stars in this movie. And... what agreat treat to have about two hours with good natured humor, back toback jokes and humor that gives you lots of giggles - but not acrack-you-up laugh-till-you-cry movie. Not meant to get an AcademyAward, but it made me smile and feel good about going to the moviesagain (at age 42.) Look, this movie was worth the $8 to see in atheater. Really glad I went to see it. I'm a bit shocked to read tomany bad reviews, and I really didn't want to see this movie. Lot's ofmemorable lines. And, there were a few heart-warming moments, too.
Kevin James has a charm that seems to win over every time, like it didwith Paul Blart: Mall Cop(2009), the talking animals are alright, but Iwish they could have come up with a better reason why the animals couldtalk, like they did with Dr.Dolittle(1998). They just through it in.And the scene where Kevin James character takes a Gorilla to TGIFFriday, was over doing it a bit, I am willing to suspend a series ofdisbelief, but not that far. Some of the jokes really seem too rushed. But Kevin James charm is appealing, and his chemistry with RosarioDawson is cute in some scenes, and Leslie Bibb(Iron Man) is funny in afew scenes. Not a great film, but not a bad either, but way better thanFurry Vengeance.
Be amazed and watch what could be the LOL family movie of the year.Zookeeper stars a few of the best stars in Hollywood including James,Sandler, Stallone, Cher and many, many more.WOW, this Animal movie makes Dr. Dolittle look like someone taking acrap in the toilet. Zookeeper is very funny, THANK YOU!I really enjoyed this because I didn't expect much. Not expecting much,I walked out of the cinema CHEERING my ASS off.well done to everybody apart of the movies, a special thanks toColumbia Pictures for making this movie.THANK YOU! this has been a A Joseph AKERS REVIEW
This review is from: Zookeeper (Amazon Instant Video) Wow, this was the most dumbest movie I ever saw don't waste your money or time on this one.Even the kids fell asleep watching it no creativity in this movie at all must of been very low budget.
Kevin James is a really funny man, in more ways than one. He can conveymany an emotion with just a quick look, from frustration to some funny, ridiculous inside joke. He has great chemistry with many of his cast, and for years he was able to carry a TV series. Just like Adam Sandler,he is a true funny man. Somehow, the people behind "Zookeeper" havemanaged to make it look like he's not quite as good. This is certainlynot reflective of James' talents. As a matter of fact, there are someeffective displays of James' physical work here, as he must interactwith plenty of special effects while portraying the title role. Mostfrustrating for the audience is to see him shine in a TGIF with hisbuddy, and watch them tear down the place on a night out.The most disappointing scenes are the ones involving the animal supportcast, as we are treated to endless, silly, and aimless banter from thevarious animals. Some the conversations are some trite and boring, evenchildren in the audience were wailing in pain. Comedy has a funnyangle, and it is the dynamic exchange between James and the gorillathat offer the best there is in the movie. In addition to the hilarity that couple brings to the screen, there isRosario Dawson's lovely turn as James' co-worker. She shines and stealsthe moment more than once, as she accompanies James to a wedding. Someof the best moments in the movie are there, as we seen some genuinechemistry between a funny guy and a beautiful, talented and very giftedperformer. I hope they have the opportunity to work together again. Will be there be a sequel to this? I would think, maybe like the "StarTrek", there could be a good possibility it would work. The elementsand the stars would have to be in the right place, and who knows?Hilarity might result.
Worth the money if your tired of your kids watching movies filled.with violence and sexual innuendo..cant lose with this one.
While not a good movie by any stretch of the imagination, Kevin James'"Zookeeper" isn't "Mars Needs Moms"-level dreck. Certainly, there areproblems, in particular the fact that you have seen this basic plot ina host of movies and television shows and even the 1950's song "Do YouLove Me? (Now That I Can Dance)." For an $80million (USD) film theproduction has a surprising number of technical flaws. Nick Nolte'svoice work as Bernie the Gorilla could have used subtitles to overcomehis slurring and the words lost to his tone dropping to an inaudiblerasp. The CGI gorilla itself suffers from scaling problemsalternatively presented as big enough to carry light heavyweight Jameson its back up the side of a bridge but small enough to fit comfortablyin a booth at a certain casual dining establishment. While productplacement to offset production costs is a reasonable practice when itstays out of the spotlight, actually inserting commercial breaks intothe proceedings (see also recent James Bond BMW ads and the FordMustang commercial in the Will Smith version of "The Omega Man") shouldprompt theater goers to ask for their cut via lowered ticket prices.Having producer Adam Sandler bring in big names (Cher, SylvesterStallone, etc.) to do voice work creates very noticeable problems oftiming and unnatural pauses clearly the result of the tracks beingrecorded at different times. Sandler's unhelpful influence demonstratesalso demonstrates itself with prerequisite scenes of public urination. To Sandler: public + relieving yourself = funny (see also "Big Daddy","Jack and Jill" and others). Some elements of the film aren't that bad. While he struggles to be consistently interesting enough to be aleading man, James is likable. Joe Rogan plays a comical bad guy withscene-chewing rubber-faced malice. Ken Jeong's plays the zoo'sdisturbed reptile handler (one imagines this is only an exaggeratedrepresentation of what someone in this line of work is probably like)and while very underutilized he gets to deliver the film's best line:"Newly weds, huh? If you're looking for a honeymoon destination,Oklahoma has a stupid underground fight club scene." In short, by nomeans a film worth seeing but not the screaming no fly zone othersmight lead you to believe.
After reading some of the reviews for this movie, it is absolutelyclear that most of the previous reviewers didn't get the point of themovie. It is a FAMILY movie. You don't go to movies to see what you can pick apart, and then write areview that is already predisposed negatively against it. That's juststupid. Anyone who goes into a movie with the attitude they are goingto hate the movie no matter, and writes an extremely negative review isan idiot. The reason to go to movies is to be entertained.Zookeeper was a movie that entertained. The performances by all thecast members were very well done. There were a lot of laughs, and therewas a lot of fun. My son, who by the way is 7, was in the perfectdemographic for this movie. It had interesting characters, andsituations. For an adult, a movie with talking animals might not be your cup oftea, but for a small child, it is awesome. Yes, a child thinks it'sfunny when someone smashes into something or someone. Yes, for anadult, the movie might seem predictable, but truthfully, what movieisn't somewhat predictable? A young child (for whom the movie was madefor) isn't going to be scrutinizing every tiny, single thing in amovie, just to say, " A-HA! SEE, I KNEW IT!". A child goes to themovies to be lost in imagination. My son laughed when there was a funnypart. Whether it was funny because of the animals, or the humans, Iheard a lot of laughter. And yes, I laughed a lot too, and so did mywife. I believe that anyone who goes into this movie with the understandingthat this is a movie targeted towards families with young children, that they will be entertained. This movie hits the mark for theappropriate audience members it was made for.
It seems like whenever a movie studio comes along and decides to make alive action movie with talking animals it never looks right. Animalstalking in Zookeeper looks pretty bad at all times. Certain animalslook decent every so often, but you can usually tell it's just a CGcartoon mouth pasted over the digitally removed original mouth of theanimal. This is the most noticeable with Donald the Monkey. Bernie theGorilla seems to be the one animal that used practical effects to beanimated and it just looks like somebody in an ape suit with superiorpuppeteering skills. It's probably about time Hollywood gave up ontalking animal family movies. The only time it seems to look right iswhen the talking animal(s) have a supporting role rather than a mainattraction.Zookeeper is leaps and bounds the worst movie I've sat through in 2011.It is 2011's version of Furry Vengeance, which is no compliment. KevinJames plays the same character yet again while abusing physical comedyand the predictable storyline and unnerving animal voices will make yougrind your teeth together in disgust. Zookeeper is the furthest thingfrom funny or entertaining and is about as enjoyable as a bowl of hotdiarrhea soup.
Zookeeper is a funny movie; one that is good for the whole family and as to be expected, includes many talking animals. The DVD extra of how the CGI / visual effects were used and produced alongside the animatronics of Bernie the gorilla was quite fascinating, and a good extra. The blooper reel was additional laughs. There were also many exotic cars within the movie, but I won't say anymore less I spoil the plot!
this movie is totally awesome. kevin james was perfect for this movie. he nailed the character right on the spot. this movie is hillarious and i love the talking animals. any movie with animals being the maine characters is always good. i thought the story and the actors were awesome this is a great movie for everyone. if you have not seen this movie then i recommend you do
